New Feature Enhancement The features and enhancements introduced in this release of iPassConnect for Mac are listed below.

iPassConnect 3.2 for Mac – Release Notes Version 1.3, December 2009 Page 1 2009 iPass Inc.

Support for Ad-hoc Networks (Devices) iPassConnect 3.2 lists devices (ad-hoc networks) separately from hotspots (infrastructure networks) and it supports connectivity to these devices to mirror the functionality of the native Airport menu.

iPass provides this functionality as a convenience and for consistency of display with the native Airport menu. The limitations of iPass support are confined to confirmation that this feature accurately mirrors the native Apple functionality and not to the network connections which may be made with this functionality as this is beyond iPass' control. iPass does not collect SQM data for ad-hoc networks.

Resolved Issues

Improved "Resume from Sleep" In iPassConnect 3.1 for Mac is was observed that on occasion, on resume from sleep, the iPassConnect UI would sometimes become unresponsive. This has now been fixed. (Bug 101404)

Removal of Animated Icon in Menu Extras iPass received significant user feedback that the animated menu extras icon when connected was too distracting. The icon set has therefore been updated. (Bug 101494)

Support for Trailing Spaces in SSIDs iPass has become aware that certain commercial Wi-Fi providers use one or more trailing spaces in their SSIDs, "Wireless@SG " being a real world example from Singapore airport. A bug preventing connectivity to such networks was found in the previous release and it has been fixed in v3.2. (Bug 102149)

SQM Counter Sequence The SQM counter sequence was previously seen to occasionally incorrectly increment by two. This is now fixed. (Bug 101772)

Support of WEP 40/128 bit ASCII Key iPassConnect 3.2 for Mac now connects successfully to hotspots which are configured with the ―WEP 40/128 bit ASCII‖ security mode. (Bug 101789)

Discontinued Feature: Dial/Ethernet Menu Opt ion The Dial/Ethernet menu item has been removed from this release as the number of caveats for normal operation was found to be too great to be realistically supportable. In the versions 3.0 and 3.1, if iPassConnect detected that iPassConnect 2.x was also installed then it displayed a Dial/Ethernet option in the iPassConnect menu. This option would launch the older client for establishing a Dial-up or Ethernet connection. This is no longer present in 3.2.

Technical Requirements

Hardware Requirements iPassConnect 3.2 is a 32-bit application which is supported on the following platforms:

iPassConnect 3.2 for Mac – Release Notes Version 1.3, December 2009 Page 2 2009 iPass Inc.

 OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

 OS X 10.5 (Leopard) This release does not support Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or earlier releases.

iPassConnect 3.2 requires at least 8 MB free disk space

The client has been tested with a range of Mac notebook computers including: MacBook; MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Supported Languages  iPassConnect for Mac is currently offered in US English only

Known Limitations

iPassConnect Preferences option causes Ma c System Preferences dialog to be reopened When selecting the "iPassConnect Preferences" menu item, the Mac System Preferences dialog is opened but it is followed by the following pop-up message: "To use the 'iPassConnect' preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." Upon confirmation the iPassConnect preferences are opened correctly. This behavior is common to all 32-bit applications with a in OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). (Bug 100632)

iPassConnect menu behavior differs from other Mac menu extras The iPassConnect icon has a slightly different response to the other menu extras as it needs an independent mouse click (e.g. user cannot click on Airport and then hover over iPass and it also cannot be "command dragged" into a different position. (Bugs 99512, 99851)

iPass Menu does not support "option-clicking" to reveal network details The native Airport menu allows users to press the before clicking on the menu in order to reveal more details about each network. This facility is not currently present in iPassConnect. (Bug 99557)

Device connections made through the native Airport menu are not reflected in iPassConnect following launch. This is because the Apple APIs do not return the newly created ad-hoc network in the scan list. (Bug 102643)

Known Issues

Manually switching from a non-broadcast network to another network fails on the first attempt If the user is connected to a non-broadcast network and they elect to connect to another network directly then the non-broadcast network is disconnected but the new connection attempt fails. However a subsequent attempt to connect to the same network will succeed. This bug was observed only with OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). (Bug 100944)

iPassConnect 3.2 for Mac – Release Notes Version 1.3, December 2009 Page 3 2009 iPass Inc.

Following uninstallation, OS X prompts user to "Choose Application" The user may be presented with the prompt "Where is iPassConnect-3.1.app?" along with a choose application dialog. The user should cancel this dialog. (Bug 101290)

iPassConnect is not transparent to 802.1X enterprise netwo rks iPassConnect 3.1 does not offer 802.1X capabilities, but furthermore, it is not possible to invoke a native connection to an 802.1X network from the iPass menu. If 802.1X connectivity is required then it should be accessed from the native Airport menu. (Bug 99572).

User cancellation of the OS X prompt to "join a network" occasionally triggers the "iPassConnect is currently disabled" dialog. This dialog is normally only displayed if the user invokes iPassConnect from the Applications folder when the iPassConnect menu extra is not displayed. (Bug 101605)

If a network is changed from non-broadcast to broadcast then the hotspot entry is not updated in the Preferred Networks tab. In this case, the network must first be deleted before being re-added in its new form. (Bug 100024)

iPassConnect can take 20-30 seconds to show a connected state following connection to a new device Unlike Airport, iPassConnect waits for confirmation of IP address acquisition before moving to the connected state. This bug does not affect the time to connect, only the time to reflect the connection state. (Bug 102644)

Personal Network WEP Key is erroneously carried -over to connections to other networks This only occurs if the user manually selects WEP 40/128 bit ASCII mode in place of the standard WEP password mode. Association will (likely) fail and the user will be prompted again to supply the WEP key. (Bug 102804)

Further Information For technical queries, the log export feature provides valuable information and we recommend its use in all troubleshooting cases. Please see the User Guide for more information about this feature.
