Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth, the Goldeyes rallied for four runs on a Reggie Abercrombie RBI triple, a Willy Garcia two-run home run, and a Kevin Garcia two- out, RBI single. The Saints answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth on a Jeremy Martinez solo homer and a Blake Schmit RBI single. Saints’ reliever Tanner Kiest closed out the game by converting a six-out save. Kevin McGovern started for the Goldeyes and took the loss, allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 5.1 innings. McGovern walked three and struck out one. St. Paul scored twice in the first on a two-run single from Jabari Henry and took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a Michael Lang solo home run. Tyler Garkow, Cameron McVey, and Brandon Bingel combined for 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. ALL-TIME AGAINST THE DOGS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 10-8 all-time against the Chicago Dogs, including a 6-3 record at Shaw Park. The Dogs are in their second season of existence, and are based out of the village of Rosemont, Illinois, which is located 18 miles northwest of downtown Chicago. The Dogs compete alongside the Goldeyes in the American Association North Division. Chicago plays at state-of-the-art Impact Field, a $60 Million facility with a 6,300 seating capacity. The Dogs were 45-54 during their expansion season in 2018, and finished 34-27 following an 11-27 start. Former Major League player and manager Butch Hobson enters his second year as Chicago’s manager. Hobson enjoyed an eight-year playing career in the Majors with the Boston Red Sox, California Angels, and New York Yankees. In 1977, Hobson hit 30 home runs and had 112 RBI for Boston. Hobson is in his 31st season managing professional baseball, and skippered the Red Sox from 1992-94. Hobson has extensive experience managing in independent baseball, and is one of only four managers in the history of the industry with more than 1,000 wins. Hobson led the Nashua Pride (Atlantic League/Can-Am League) for eight seasons, including an Atlantic League championship in 2000 and a Can-Am League title in 2007. Hobson also guided the Atlantic League’s Lancaster Barnstormers for six years, winning a championship in 2014. In 2017, Hobson led the Low-A Midwest League’s Kane County Cougars (Arizona Diamondbacks) to a 72-65 record. SERIES MATCHUP: The Winnipeg Goldeyes are 47-35, in fourth place in the American Association North Division, and 6.0 games behind the Fargo- Moorhead RedHawks. The Goldeyes just lost two of three to the St. Paul Saints at CHS Field. The Goldeyes are sixth in the American Association in hitting (.274), tied for fifth in pitching (4.46), and first in fielding (.988). The Chicago Dogs are 47-34, in third place in the North, and 5.5 games behind the RedHawks. The Dogs just won two of three from the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park. The Dogs are second in the league in batting (.289), tied for fifth in pitching (4.46), and 10th in defence (.969). This is the third of four head-to-head series this season between Winnipeg and Chicago. The Goldeyes are 3-3 against the Dogs in 2019. PROJECTED UPCOMING PITCHING MATCHUPS TONIGHT’S STARTERS: The Goldeyes go with right- 8/16 vs. CHI: RHP Kevin Hilton (3-9, 4.57) vs. RHP Carlos Zambrano (2-0, 5.23) hander Joel Seddon who is 2-4 with a 6.53 ERA in 11 th 8/17 vs. CHI: LHP Mitchell Lambson (11-2, 2.86) vs. LHP Austin Wright (5-6, 4.31) starts since signing on June 15 . Seddon took a no- decision at Milwaukee on Saturday, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings. Seddon walked one and struck out two. The Goldeyes won the game 13-9. Seddon has walked two batters or less in seven of his 11 starts, and has walked three batters or less in nine of them. Seddon was 9-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 starts and 11 relief appearances last year for the Double-A Texas League’s Midland RockHounds. Seddon finished eighth in the Texas League in ERA and was voted a Texas League All-Star. Seddon helped the RockHounds win back-to-back Texas League championships in 2016 and 2017. Seddon was a combined 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 19.0 postseason innings. Seddon was drafted by the Athletics in the 11th round in 2014 out of the University of South Carolina (Columbia, South Carolina). Seddon saved 14 games for the Gamecocks during his junior season in 2014 where he was voted All-Southeastern Conference (SEC). Seddon is in his sixth season of professional baseball, and is 34-36 lifetime with three saves and a 4.78 ERA in 164 games, 78 of them as a starting pitcher. Seddon is 0-1 with a 4.97 ERA in two career starts against Chicago. Seddon is 2-0 with a 3.80 ERA in four career starts at Shaw Park. The Dogs go with left-hander Jacob Dahlberg who is 6-6 with a 5.62 ERA in 14 starts and one relief appearance this season. Dahlberg is tied for 12th in the American Association in strikeouts (81). Dahlberg took the loss vs. Fargo-Moorhead last Saturday, allowing five earned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. Dahlberg walked one and struck out two. Dahlberg walked two batters or less in 12 of his 14 starts, and walked three batters or less in all of them. Dahlberg has had seven starts this season with seven or more strikeouts. Dahlberg was a combined 5-5 with a 2.50 ERA in 15 starts and one relief appearance at two levels of the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization last season. Dahlberg struck out 77, walked 19, and allowed just two home runs while pitching for the Low-A Midwest League’s Peoria Chiefs and the Short Season- A New York-Penn League’s State College Spikes. Dahlberg was drafted by the Cardinals in the 21st round in 2017 out of the University of Illinois at Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Dahlberg was 10-2 with a 2.17 ERA for the Flames during his senior season in 2017, and was voted the Horizon League’s Pitcher of the Year. Dahlberg is in his third season of professional baseball, and is 13-11 lifetime with a 4.09 ERA in 50 games, 29 of them as a starting pitcher. Dahlberg is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA in two career starts against Winnipeg. Dahlberg is 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA in one career start at Shaw Park. GOLDEYES MANAGER: Rick Forney is now in his 14th season as Goldeyes’ manager, and his 23rd overall within the organization. During his first 13 years at the helm, the Goldeyes have posted a .545 overall winning percentage (698-583), 10 winning seasons, nine playoff appearances, and an American Association-record three championships. Forney was voted American Association Manager of the Year in 2011, and managed the American Association during the American Association/Can-Am League All-Star Game in 2017. Forney’s .553 winning percentage in the American Association (2011-18) is the third-highest in league history (there have been 51 total American Association managers through the 2018 season). Forney pitched professionally for 10 years, including four seasons with the Goldeyes. During his playing career, Forney was 89-56 (.614) with a 3.63 ERA, and reached the Triple-A level in 1995. GOLDEYES MAKE TRADE WITH AIRHOGS: The Winnipeg Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Kevin Hilton and outfielder Jonathan Moroney from the Texas AirHogs on Friday in exchange for four players to be named later. Hilton was an all-star for the AirHogs this season, and was 3-8 with a 4.62 ERA in 15 starts. At the time of the trade, Hilton ranked tied for third in the American Association with 97.1 innings pitched. Moroney was hitting .315 with six home runs and 26 RBI in 65 games. The Goldeyes also released rookie infielder Jordan Hovey. TYLER HILL HEADED TO ROYALS: Goldeyes’ outfielder Tyler Hill’s contract was purchased by the Kansas City Royals on August 8th. Hill was batting .375 in 40 games with 32 runs scored, four home runs, 28 RBI, and 16 stolen bases. Hill is the fourth contract the Goldeyes have sold to a Major League organization in 2019, and the 78th all-time. DARVILL, GARCIA STAR IN PAN-AM GAMES: Goldeyes’ all-star infielder Wes Darvill was selected to the Canadian National Team for the 2019 Pan- Am Games in Lima, Peru. Willy Garcia represented the Dominican National Team at the event. The tournament concluded Sunday, August 4th with Team Canada taking home the Silver Medal following a 6-1 loss to the Puerto Rican National Team.
