Red-tailed Comet Picaflor cometa | Sappho sparganura Argentina comprises an amazing diversity of landscapes and habitats: from subtropical rainforests in the north to dry steppes and deserts in the south N and west; and from the highest peaks of the western SE N E J hemisphere in the Andes range, to the flatlowlands of ER LL the Pampas and Chaco. And everything in between. O For this reason there is an impressive diversity of MÓN M RA birds, with over 1000 species. In this brochure you will find a selection of Argentina’s bird fauna, with species significant for their uniqueness, rarity, or endemic status. They represent some of the species most sought-after by birdwatchers who visit this part of the globe. Credits. Idea and text: Marcelo Gavensky and Francisco González Taboas (Aves Argentinas). Welcome to the Ornithological Congress of the Americas! Puerto Iguazú, Misiones, Argentina, from 8–11 August, 2017 Puerto Iguazú is located in the heart of the interior Atlantic Forest and is the portal to the Iguazú Falls, one of the world’s Seven Natural Wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area surrounding Puerto Iguazú, the province of Misiones and neighboring regions of Paraguay and Brazil offers many scenic attractions and natural areas such as Iguazú National Park, and provides unique opportunities for birdwatching. Over 500 species have been recorded, including many Atlantic Forest endemics like the Blue Manakin (Chiroxiphia caudata), the emblem of our congress. This is the first meeting collaboratively organized by the Association of Field Ornithologists, Sociedade Brasileira de Ornitologia and Aves Argentinas, and promises to be an outstanding professional experience for both students and researchers. The congress will feature workshops, symposia, over 400 scientific presentations, 7 internationally renowned plenary speakers, and a celebration of 100 years of Aves Argentinas! Enjoy the book of abstracts! The biogeographic province of the “Yungas” is considered by the UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. In this zone, Calilegua National Park is one of the “cores” of the Yungas, where ferns and lycophytes grow as epiphytic, terrestrial or saxicoulous in different environments. The aim of this study is to make known the ferns and lycophytes that inhabit in Calilegua National Park, in order to provide information on Yungas biodiversity. For this purpose, 5 field trips were performed during december-May 2007-2011. Voucher specimens were deposited in the following herbaria: JUA, LP and RCV. Other herbaria and specific bibliography were also consulted. According to this study 103 taxa (species and varieties) of ferns and lycophytes inhabit in Calilegua National Park, grouped in 18 families and 43 genera. Six species are first recorded for the Province of Jujuy. Nomenclatural updates and keys for taxa identification are also given. Key words: Biodiversity, Calilegua National Park, ferns, lycophytes, Yungas. Resumen: La provincia biogeográfica de las Yungas es considerada por la UNESCO como una de las Reservas de la Biosfera.
