From dusk till dawn, the darkness can reveal a world filled with mystery and wonder. Photographic possibilities become endless when imagination and /X[XU\3 KRWR knowledge collide after dark. Longer shutter speeds can produce imposing cobalt blue skies, surreal car trails and star trails, one of a kind silhouettes and gorgeous motion blurs. Movement, color and light combine to give results that are often unseen with the naked eye.

This seven-session workshop will help participants to capture the atmospher- ic qualities only found at dusk and at night in an urban environment. Four Monday evening classroom sessions will cover evaluating existing lighting sit- uations, composition, understanding time exposures, camera set ups, light painting and scouting locations. Critiques of students’ work will give insight into ( [SHGLWLRQ what worked, what went wrong and how to achieve different results. Instruction will also cover many Photoshop techniques to enhance many of the images. In addition, the workshop will entail three hands-on Saturday night shooting ses- sions before dusk in different locations around Los Angeles. Retouching Techniques in Adobe Photoshop Many times images are not perfect. There is a “if only” factor to photography – if only this wasn’t in the image, if only their skin looked a bit softer, if only I could just remove some of the red on their face or streamline their neck. This one-day hands-on work- shop, intended for students completing Introduction to Adobe Photoshop or have a working knowledge of non-destructive editing, will develop a variety of retouching skills. All topics covered will encompass a non-destructive image editing workflow. Discussions will address how much retouching is really necessary, client expecta- tions, retouching for web vs. print and when is it not efficient to peruse retouching.
