The R1 cup is a marketing opportunity second to none In laymans terms it is a championship that is competed by all riders on exactly the same standard motorbikes (ie all riders have the same opportunity as each other)(please see article from MCN News on below) The championship is to be run on the the same dates as the British Super Bike meetings, therefore offering a unique opportunity for your company to sponsor one of the riders, Rob Elsmere. The cost of sponsorship for this season, as a sole sponsor, will be £45,000

Huge interest in new R1 cup By Gary Pinchin British Superbikes – 29 September 2007 13:25

The new Yamaha R1 Cup scheduled to blast into action next year at British Superbike rounds is attracting huge interest. When the series was launched at recently over 150 prospective racers crammed into the Virgin Media hospitality to hear what was on offer. Since then series boss Rob McElnea has had four riders from Australia call to find out how to enter. He’s had interest from all over Europe and plans to take the bike to Milan for the international motorcycle show, as well as the NEC for the show in November. “People know how much success with the R6 Cup and with the R1 Cup taking it to the next level it’s no surprise that it’s fired people’s imagination so much,” said Rob McElnea. The R6 Cup was conceived as a way of fostering young talent and we’ve seen several riders including Tommy Hill, , Billy McConnell and Tom Grant emerge from it to become front runners in the top British championships. Where the R1 Cup differs is that the concept is to give every rider an equal chance of success, pitting experience riders against rookies. All 36 identical R1s will be maintained by Rob McElnea Racing Company to ensure everyone starts equal. The bikes will be stock R1s equipped with racing exhausts, Power Commanders, Ohlins race kitted forks and shocks, braided brake hoses and adjustable rear sets. The bikes will also run slick tyres and each rider will have a tyre allocation per race weekend including slicks and wets, although at this stage, details of the tyre supplier have not been announced. That’s largely due to the fact that there may be a single tyre supplier in British Superbikes and British Supersport next year and, depending on who gets that deal if it happens, obviously may affect all the other classes in the championship. Instead of a season-long campaign, the R1 Cup is split into two separate six-round championships, the aim being to spread the prize fund more widely and give riders who might hit problems early in the year a second bite at the cherry in the second half of the season. There’s also two separate races as a supporting event at the Donington Park MotoGP The total prize fund of £100,000 is designed not just to award winners, but also spread the money among the field. There is no guaranteed ride with the official Yamaha race team like there was with the R6 Cup but the overall champion from the Spring Cup and autumn Cup gets a superbike test ride with the Yamaha team. Total Prize Fund: £100,000 R1 Spring Cup Per Race: 1st £1500, 2nd £1000, 3rd £750, 4th £500, 5th £400, 6th £300, 7th £250, 8th £200, 9th £200, 10th £200. Pole position: £250. Holeshot: £200. Fastest lap: £200. Spring Cup Champion: £5000. MotoGP event 2 races overall 1st £2000, 2nd £1000, 3rd £500. This opportunity is second to none and would be an ideal chance for any company to promote themselves in a high profile manner very quickly

The R1 Championship will be one of the preliminary races/ championship races at all the British Super Bike meetings throughout 2008

It is a new championship based on the success of the R6 cup, run in 2006/7

As a potential new sponsor you will benefit by:

1) having your own R1 screened on Eurosport TV, offering you unprecedented advertising

2) TV commentary on any race will call the bike by its sponsor name, not by rider

3) hospitality ticket prices will be guaranteed, giving you scope to entertain your customers, all over the UK, at a high-level televised event watching ‘your’ motorcycle compete!

4) If you are lucky enough to be a company with existing supplier support, then this is potentially an even greater marketing opportunity for all concerned ELSMERE BROCHURE 28/11/07 13:13 Page 7

Please find herewith a brief CV of the rider Rob Elsmere and a DVD of the Champion of Brands competition filmed in September 2007. I am sure it will speak for itself.

PROFILE OF ROB ELSMERE AKA ‘RECKLESS ROB’ PENNED BY SPORTS CORRESPONDENT, TERRY HOWE:

“From the thousands of competing road racers a high percentage of these are naturally ambitious. Although vacancies at the top level are limited, this needn’t be an obstacle in the way of their long-term aspirations. Producing a CV without footage has always been a problem for the clubman, so on recommendation alone any rival or club member will vouch for Rob Elsmere’s honesty and bravery on the track and his courtesy and business like professionalism off it. For any potential sponsor Rob Elsmere would be a great asset. Of course team membership is a key area for riders to target, and should Rob be offered a position, he is quite capable of stepping into any vacant situation. His contribution would be enormous and his performances on the track could easily give success to a major team sponsor. Rob’s progression into the 10 round MRO Powerbike championships in the last 3 years was long overdue and he got recognition and received more media coverage than he had thus far. The Motorcycle Racing Organisations Powerbike Tour is a natural stepping-stone to the British Superbike championship and many riders have gone straight from MRO to world level bike sport. History suggests that Rob’s racing with the correct club. The British Motorcycle Racing Club and the MRO are of the same and between them have produced more racing legends than any other. The BMCRC, or Bemsee which they are affectionately known, have high hopes for a number of riders and that includes Rob Elsmere. The most recent Bemsee riders to progress to Moto GP were Shane Byrne and Casey Stoner. Both Shane and Rob began racing as novices with Bemsee during the mid nineties, and for some time their results were very comparable. Rob graduated from novice to a national level during 1996, and got his first win with Bemsee the next year and finished in the top four in his class for that season. In 1998 Rob accumulated hundreds of disciplined racing miles when he contested the KRC endurance championship. His team finished third in their class for that year. Ironically in 1999 while recovering from injury, Rob’s main rival and best mate Shane Byrne was getting his first break at British level. However, the ability to come back from injury and win races again is the hallmark of a true professional. Rob passed this examination when he overcame a serious foot injury in 1999 but this unfortunately ruined much of the next season. In 2001 Rob got back into action again and began a combination of racing and a year of instructing with the Octagon Race School. Two thousand and two and Rob became busier and was very successful in the Powerbike class of the Nationwide championship, and scored top six positions in the MRO series as well. In this season Rob became a team member and contested the 24-hour World Endurance championship. Rob Elsmere has always demonstrated exceptional track craft and rider discipline, but machinery on which to display these skills has not always been beneath this accomplished rider. His present day occupation working as a plasterer ensures his levels of fitness are high; this is an essential requirement for a road racer. Other important criteria are to have a sound knowledge of motorcycle engineering and having the ability to identify and correct any enigmas that may occur whilst testing or during racing. Rob has all these attributes. Even at times whilst competing with underpowered machinery he has shown remarkable resolution and determination to do well. Finding the right machine for Rob’s riding style has not always gone his way. Sometimes it takes a season or two for a combination to fall into place, and during the 2003 season the late arrival of a new GSXR proved to be worth waiting for. A succession of results earned the Erith rider the BMCRC Ace of Clubs crown and he was third overall in this club’s Nationwide Powerbike championship. Rob was also 2nd overall in the BMCRC famous Champion of Brands series.”
