As Mayor I’m in the fortunate position of being able to ensure local sports have the good-quality local infrastructure they need to run successful clubs. This year that’s particularly true for Netball Hutt Valley as we’ve recently approved the budget re- quired to redevelop the Taita Netball Courts. The work to redevelop the Taita Netball Courts, which will be completed before the start of the 2014 season, will ensure we can accommodate current teams and offer more playing time. For example, upgrading the floodlights will open the opportunity of night competitions. Clubs like Netball Hutt Valley offer not only a place to exercise and develop sport skills but a chance to meet others socially and develop strong bonds between friends and neighbours, which is the foundation of strong communities. It is important to me that Council makes long-term investments in key community projects and the Taita Netball Courts is a great example of that. Netball Hutt Valley needed to increase junior players and not put them off due to cost. Philli- pa Whitney reminded members there is a hardship Grant that can be applied for through Hutt Valley. Genny confirmed the percentage increase of fees was not the same across schools and clubs as clubs were already paying high fees. The increase included the Zone fee and the Netball New Zea- land fee. The rate per player based on other sports is reasonably ok and it compares favourably. Hutt Valley will not be supporting the Pulse financially but we still need to support the team. Membership asked for a breakdown of the increases and what they are used for. Action: Board Karen Sagaga asked if membership could be advised when fees are due. Action: Board General Business Zone - General discussion was held on the Zone. The strategic change in 2012 was the move from 12 Regions to five Zones. The Wellington region has joined with Manawatu, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, and the Central Pulse franchise to become Netball Central Zone Inc. Chris Hooper has been ap- pointed CEO with Ian Collier as the Chair. The offices of Netball Centre Zone are at the ASB Sports Centre in Kilbirnie. Effective 1 April, the new Zone staff structure will include a CEO, Community Netball Manager, High Performance Manager, Pulse Operations Manager and Finance/Admin Assis- tant. A members’ meeting with Chris Hooper will be arranged. Action - Board. The Zone will be running U23 reps but Hutt Valley will be doing U19s, holiday programmes and de- velopment, which includes reps. A reminder that HVSSA runs U15s and U17s reps and has ruled that players have to play for their school to be eligible to be selected in these teams. Kids playing for Clubs – Ok by Hutt Valley, with common sense prevailing in terms of age and grade. Code of Conduct – Genny reiterated the problems encountered last season with abusive and threatening behavior, verbal and physical, by players and parents. This was particularly prevalent in school games but club games were also affected. The Executive would be taking a ‘zero tolerance’ stance in 2013. This season Executive members will be observing all games and will be very visible in bright vests. People will be asked to leave if behaving badly. If a person is involved in this behav- ior twice they will be ‘trespassed’.

Our club will be organising the 2020 Nuts ‘n Bolts. Six of us continued up to share their 36th birthday dinner with Wanganui. They were the first club founded here in New Zealand. It was lovely sharing ideas with them. Our visit from Birmingham Alabama, was fantastic! A big thank you to Tony and his committee for running such a great and varied programme. It was great to see so many of our members being involved in various parts of the week. Our committee/financial year is ending, and our AGM is looming up on 1st December at 4.30pm at 1841 Bar & Restaurant.
