A reminder that the trip component of $10.80 needs to be paid by next Wednesday 16th Find us on Facebook March for your child to go on their school trip on the 22nd March. and “LIKE” to get updates from the Civil Defence Trial Evacuation ~ On Friday 18th March at 2.00 pm we will school - conduct an in class earthquake drill followed by an evacuation to the top asphalt, www.facebook.com then to the school hall once danger has been assessed. As per our Post Disaster Plan, children are required to be signed out from the school hall by a parent or named contact person, from 2.30 pm, as per the Civil Defence Contact list, which was sent home last week. This needs to be returned to school before this evacuation. This exercise is to show staff, parents and children the procedure that will be followed in an emergency. Therefore it is important that you participate. We would appreciate it, if every child could contribute one non-perishable food item to the school which can be used in a Civil Defence Emergency. Items can include canned spaghetti, baked beans, tinned fruit, Inside this issue: condensed milk, rice etc. This can be brought to the trial evacuation. Welcome to 1 Asthma Action Plans ~ If you have identified your child as being an asthmatic on their New Pupils enrolment form please read on. Our Public Health Nurse has advised that we need an “Action Plan” for each student with asthma. Please see you doctor and arrange for an Action Plan to be Activities 1 completed and bring to the school office. Charge / Trip component WRFU Year 3 -4 Rippa Rugby Tournament ~ On Tuesday 8th March, fifteen Year 3 – 4 students attended the WRFU Rippa Rugby Tournament held at Petone Rec. It was awful Civil Defence 1 weather with rain, wind and hail but the Arakura Aces did not let this stop them! They worked Trial Evacuation super hard as a team and won all four of their games, which made them the winners of their pool! This group of students had outstanding attitudes and never gave up. They were very Asthma Action 1 respectful and represented the school very well. Thank you to all the parents who supported us plans on the day, I could not have done it without you - Chanelle Maxey. Arakura Kindergarten Garage Sale ~ 8am till 11 am on Saturday 12th March at the kindy, if anyone has any donations that they are wanting to give; old clothing, toys, kitchenware etc. If they are brought down to the kindy in session times, any questions contact Ph 920 9806. SPCA ~ is offering Wainuiomata residents with a Community Card, neutering/spaying for dogs, cats/kittens for the month of March for a Donation. Ph SPCA 389 1044. Wainuiomata Fruit and Vege Co-op ~ Bringing healthy food to our neighbour hood for just $10 per week. Pay $10 a week in advance and then collect on Tuesdays between 4 - 5 pm. Forms at school office. Calling All OLD Mobile Phones ~ It’s that time again to rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile phones you may have at home. It is estimated that each year up to three million phones become obsolete in NZ, of those only 2% are recycled. Phones collected help our Arakura School gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the school office.
