Sales Guide Discover Bavaria – Enjoy True Dreams Munich Airport /Sales Guide Discover Bavaria – enjoy true dreams Living ideas – Connecting lives Munich for Tourism Professionals Dear travel industry partners, Isn’t it true that the backbone of our industry is service and support? Yes. And when you top excellent service with efficiency and passenger-friendly facilities you have what it takes to successfully operate an international hub airport. »Living ideas – Connecting lives« is much more than Munich Airport’s new slogan; it defines the steadfast commitment to our passengers and partners. They are among the 12 million travelers worldwide who participated in the internationally renowned Skytrax survey 2013 that identified Munich Airport as »The Best Airport in Central Europe« and »The 6th Best Airport Worldwide«. As Munich Airport is constantly improving its state-of-the-art facilities and service portfolio we have also decided to reposition our brand and thus to redesign our main tool for the travel trade. Our Sales Guide has a new layout and will make it easier for planners to organize travel packages to Munich, Bavaria and Romantic Europe. Spectacular Alpine scenery and numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites await the traveler upon arrival at Munich Airport. One is quickly captivated by the places where history was made and quite tempted to travel down Bavaria’s extensive network of holiday routes to experience the region’s culture. Why resist the opportunity to experience medieval cities, picturesque villages, amazing architecture and fabulous shopping? Another Bavarian jewel is the city of Munich itself. Here trend merges with tradition to create an atmosphere of magic. Discover the features that make Munich an extremely popular city: outstanding museums, famous theaters and orchestras, magnificent palaces, lovely parks, gourmet temples, down-to-earth beer gardens and much more… Great travel destinations need powerful gateways. Looking back, the development of Munich Airport has been a dynamic process from a mainly point-to-point airport into one of Europe’s most modern hub airports. Currently, Munich Airport ranks number seven in the »Champions League« of European airports. Yet, I firmly believe that we have a good chance of becoming one of Europe’s Top 5 hub airports by the Sales Guide Online! year 2020. • Munich information (recommended tours, top sights, excursions,…) Even so, we will always pursue the commitment to our tourism region and the close • Service (guides, brochures, hotel reservations, fam trips,…) cooperation with you – our travel industry partners. • Partners (incoming agencies, PCO, DMC, car rental, public transport,…) • News (newsletter, new hotels & sights,…) • Press & Media service (photo service, press releases, footage,…) • Facts and Figures Dr. Michael Kerkloh President and CEO of Munich Airport www.muenchen.de/salesguide Ad_MucFlughSalesGuide_A4_BtoB_RZ.indd 1 07.02.14 10:21 4 Contents Munich 6 Highlights 8 Best places 10 City of arts 12 Culture 14 Shopping and hotels 16 The success story Munich Airport 18 Highlights 20 Gateway to Europe 22 The shopping mall 24 Dining and accommodation 26 Services 28 Events and transportation 30 Contact Bavaria/the Alps 32 Highlights 34 Upper Bavaria 38 Franconia 40 The East 42 Allgäu and Swabia 44 Tirol 48 SalzburgerLand 50 Map & info Discoveries 52 Highlights 54 Winter sports and golfing 56 Bargains and outlets 58 Wellness and healthcare 60 Heavenly art hotels 6 /Munich Highlights 8 Best places The Bavarian capital offers a wide range of cultural events coupled with fun and traditional activities. 10 City of arts Classics, modern art or avant-garde, paintings or sculptures – Munich’s got it all! 12 Culture The Bavarian culture will thrill everyone with its outstanding museums, theaters and orchestras as well as with its beautiful beer gardens. 14 Shopping and hotels Every brand label from around the world as well as hotel rooms in every price range can be found in Munich and its vicinity – this must be paradise! 16 The success story Munich is not only home to one of the world’s most success- ful soccer teams, it is also the home of BMW. 8 Munich 9 Guided tours /Best places By foot By bike 1 Englischer Garten (4) Munich Tourist Office Mike’s Bike Tours (English Garden) The Munich Tourist Office offers skillful, certified guides for Mike’s Bike Tours offers the use of comfortable Cruiser The English Garden is Munich’s green sightseeing tours in the city. One of these times is now, as I prepare to stand down from my 17 years’ involvement with the Council and the last 10 years as its Chairman. Along the way there have been many memorable moments. These include events such as the IAA in Frankfurt, Techno Clas- sica, the Mille Miglia, the Villa D’Este Concorso, and of course BMW Motorrad Days. And I think not just of the events, but often the drives to get there. Be it through the scenery of Bavaria and northern Italy, across Death Valley, along the coast near Cape Town or the pristine beauty of New Zealand’s South Island. Events and Council meetings themselves invoke many fond memories, from a unique dinner on the 50 yard line in the Skydome in Toronto, to a boisterous beer or three in the beer tents at several Oktoberfests in Munich. But one factor remained constant, wherever I was, and whatever I was doing, I was sharing the ex- perience with BMW friends. I have always said clubs are not formed by cars or motorcycles, but by people – passionate and enthusiastic BMW owners. I have had the pleasure of meeting numerous members from clubs throughout the world as well as from the BMW corporate family.

The unmissable, once-a-decade OBERAMMERGAU Passion Play 2022 A collection of tours featuring the Passion Play, which also include: The Austrian Tyrol Lake Constance The Way of St. James Mozart’s Salzburg Dream Castles of Bavaria 1 EXPERIENCE AN ICON OF WORLD TRAVEL IN 2022 Taking place just once every decade, this legendary play owes its origins to a deadly plague and its almost 400-year history was disrupted in 2020 by a modern-day pandemic. Thankfully, it will now take place throughout 2022 so there’s a new opportunity to appreciate this iconic event. If you’re looking for a holiday to remember, join us in beautiful Bavaria and experience this incredible performance for yourself. All Oberammergau images © Passion Play Oberammergau An extraordinary heritage 2020 was set to mark the 42nd performance of the now-iconic Passion Play, but its schedule was disrupted due to the global outbreak of COVID-19 – a modern-day pandemic no-one could have predicted yet somewhat ironic considering the play’s origins. The Passion Play’s wheels were first set in motion back in 1633 when the Great Plague descended upon the residents of Oberammergau, a charming Bavarian village. Its citizens made a solemn vow that if their lives were spared, they would perform a play depicting the story of Christ’s life, suffering, death and resurrection every ten years. Amazingly, there were no further deaths as a result of the plague and the Passion Play officially began a year later in 1634. The event has only seen a few other incidents where it had to be postponed or cancelled throughout its almost 400- year history, but it will return in 2022 to wow audiences from around the world.

/ Aircraft Noise and Aircraft Noise Abatement The environment at Munich Airport Living ideas – Connecting lives D2 Contents 4 Munich Airport in comparison 8 Causes of noise 11 Noise research 14 Air traffic basics 16 Planning flight procedures 18 Aircraft noise monitoring 22 Reducing aircraft noise 32 Legal requirements 35 Appendix 36 Glossary 38 Imprint D3 Foreword Air traffic is a major factor in societal development. It helps to secure Germany's economic place in the face of international competition and has immense signifi- cance in times of increasing globalization. It makes a substantial contribution not only to exports, but also to the needs of the population in terms of mobility and well-being. Air traffic also means noise, however. The subject of aircraft noise and complete protection for residents is a chief con- cern for Munich Airport in dialog with the neighborhood. We, together with the air- lines and air traffic control, have for many years been actively engaged in all areas of noise abatement in order to take account of the local residents’ need for rest. Aircraft noise must also be considered and assessed against traffic noise as a whole. The figures show air traffic as a whole to cause the least traffic noise by far, and no other mode of transport has achieved as much success in reducing noise through technological innovations over the past decades as air traffic. We want to find the right balance based on the legal situation between the in- terests of residents and the environment and the requirements of industry and people’s needs for mobility.
