An assertion of the dependence of knowledge had the effect of strengthening relativistic tendencies in theories of knowledge. The idea of the active role of the cognitive subject in the production of knowledge conduced to the formation of a new epistemological program-"constructivism". According to this ap- proach, cognition is not a reflection of "external" reality in the mind of an individual, but a process of construction of reality. "Philosophy of symbolic forms" of Ernst Cassirer in this matter is considered to be the precursor of constructivist views. Human cognitive activity, in accordance with the pos- tulation of the paradigm of the symbolic, necessarily carries out symboliza- tion: perception and expression in all types of human activity function by creating symbolic systems. Nelson Goodman – prominent philosopher in the field of analytical philosophy, logician and aesthetician is well known for his radical relativistic and pluralist position. In the foreword of his "Ways of Worldmaking" Nelson Goodman underlines that first chapter of the book was read on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Ernst Cassirer, which for sure points to his dedication to ideas of famous neo-Kantian. N. Goodman's reception of Cassirer's philosophy of symbolic forms has evolved into the idea of world making and plurality of world versions. Fol- lowing Ernst Cassirer in his study of logical nature of symbolic forms and their interrelation, N. Goodman claims that the use of symbolic systems allows us to model various world versions in science and art. The study of symbol in the concept of N. Goodman opens up new opportunities for ana- lytical philosophy: a single principle of description, where art and science are equally integrated into the process of cognition. 3 Hanna Hnatovska Associate Professor, Department of History of Philosophy, Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University (Kyiv, Ukraine) E-mail: [email protected] ORCID: 0000-0001-9699-1037 PERIODIZATION OF THE HISTORY OF INDIAN PHILOSOPHY Monier-Williams in the Sanskrit-English Dictionary offers us the following terms to translate the word philosophy: दशन (darzana), अीिकी (anvIkSikI), तिवा (tattvavidyA), त (tattva), िवा (vidyA), तान (tattvajJAna) ान (jJAna), तक िवा (tarkavidyA), तक (tarka), शा (zAstra). On the one hand, we can assume that such a prominent number of similarly meaningful terms indicates only their approximate similarity to the Western notion of philoso- phy, and on the other hand, it is justified to assume that each of these terms reflects a certain aspect of the complex phenomenon of philosophizing in Indian culture and implies about its development and an important role. The basis of historical and philosophical research – the text of the primary source, which is a reflection of the event of philosophical crea- tion in the past, which meets the criteria of historicity. The specifics of Indian philosophical discourse encourages us to ignore the issue of chronology and dating, and focus on identifying key primary sources based on the genre of their content. We suggest to distinguish the following periods of Indian philosophy his- tory : 1) pre-philosophical (Vedas, Mahabharata, Manusmritita, etc.) – the formation of the philosophical culture of India; 2) the period of sutras (Nyayasutra, VaisheshikaSutra, etc.) – the nascence and development of the basics of each philosophical doctrine of India, the time of writing the pri- mary sources can not be clearly dated and the authorship can not be deter- mined; 3) period of comments, critical analysis and polemics ("Pramiana- samuccaya" Dignaga, "SarvaDarshanSangrah" Madhvacharya, etc.) – the feature of which is comparatively precise dating of writings and definition of authors, polemical and synthetic character of texts; 4) the period of the mod- ern development of Indian philosophy ("The Discovery of India", J.Nehru, "The Hindu View of Life" S.Radhakrishnan etc.) the main feature of which is the actualization of socio-ethical issues. 4 Amina Kkhelufi PhD student, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Kyiv, Ukraine) E-mail: [email protected] ORCID: 0000-0001-6851-8285 THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN JOHN LOCKE AND PROTESTANT RELIGIOUS GROUPS Religion played a significant role in John Locke's personal life and his philosophical writings. This is confirmed by the fact that philosopher grew up in a Puritan family and got an education at a religious college of Christ Church. Moreover, he was renown Bible expert and interpreter of Scripture. In addition to that he witnessed various disputes and ideological confronta- tion of different branches of Christianity. Some contemporary Western philosophers study Locke's interactions with Protestants and how they influenced his philosophy. For example, Peter Anstey (The University of Sydney) states that philosopher's relationship with the Quakers was reflected on the structure of "An Essay Concerning Human Understanding". The author compared some theses about immediate inspi- ration used in the drafts and in "An Essay" and argued that all key features of the XIXth chapter on Enthusiasm of "An Essay" derive from the Quakers and Locke's critics of their conception [Anstey Peter. Locke, the Quakers and Enthusiasm. Intellectual History Review (2018): 1-19 pp.]. Victor Nuovo (Middlebury College) also claims that Locke paid much attention to religious themes. British philosopher stood for more tolerant church, a simplification of a religious ritualism and insisted on reducing the postulates of faith. The re- searcher points out that his views were similar to such liberal religious groups as English Latitudinarians and Dutch Remonstrants [Nuovo Victor. The Reasonableness of Christianity and A Paraphrase and Notes on the Epistles of St Paul. In M. Stuart (Ed.), A Companion to Locke. Chichester, West Sussex: Blackwell Publishing (2016): 486-502 pp.]. Deep analysis of the religious foundation of John Locke's philosophy will provide better understanding of his views and can help us to define the sta- tus of theology in Locke's philosophy,

    BULGARIAN REVIVAL INTELLIGENTSIA Natural Philosophy System of Dr. Petar Beron Petar Beron was born at year 1800 in the town Kotel, “a miniature of Nuremberg”, in a rich family of handcrafts and merchants. In Kotel he received his primary education at the cell school of Stoiko Vladislavov and Raino Popovich. He went further to Bucharest where he entered the school of Greek educator Konstantin Vardalach. The latter, a famous for his time pedagogue and encyclopedist, had influenced a lot for the formation of Beron as scientist and philosopher. In 1824 Beron is compelled to leave Bucharest, because he participated in a “Greek plot”, and goes to Brashov, another Rumanian town, where he compiled “The Fish Primer”. This book was fundamental for the Reformation in Bulgaria and an achievement for the young scholar. In 1825 Beron enrolled as a student in Heidelberg University, Germany, where he proceeded philosophy until two years later when he transferred to Munich to study medicine. On the 9 July 1831, after successfully defending a doctoral dissertation, Beron was promoted Doctor in Medicine. Dissertation was in Latin and concerned an operation technique in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The young physician worked in Bucharest and Craiova, but after several years of general practice he quit his job and started merchandise. After fifteen years he made a fortune and went to Paris where he lived as a renter. Here he started a real scientific career. His scope was to entail all the human knowledge by that time and to make a natural philosophy evaluation by creating a new “Panepisteme”. His encyclopedic skills were remarkable.

A critical approach to the historiography of Federal Indonesia This paper is part of a research project titled The United States of Indonesia, Rise and Fall of a Federal State 1941-1950. This is an international comparative study into the rise and fall of the federal state structure of Indonesia. Firstly, it examines the motives and interests within and outside Indonesia which led to the new state structure in 1946. Secondly, it explores the coming into being of the United States of Indonesia between 1946 and 1949. Thirdly, it studies the transition to a unitary state in the nine months between December 1949 and August 1950.

Zhitin a a Derzhavin Tambov state university, Russian Federation Abstract This article examines the formation of electoral organizations of Rusyn political forces in the second half of the XIX – early XX century. Their necessity was determined by the desire to overcome the predominance of Polish parties in the traditional curial system of representation of the Habsburg monarchy. The ensuring both the nomination of candidates for deputies to the Sejm and the Reichsrat, and their conduct of the election campaign, required coordination of efforts between various movements of Russo-Ukrainian politics, primarily Russophile and Ukrainophile forces. Since the curial system in the cities guaranteed that Polish and Jewish voters would win the majority of votes, initially the efforts of Russo-Ukrainian political parties were focused on rural residents as a category with a predominant East Slavic population. Using the examples of the election campaigns of 1897 and 1907, the interaction of Rusyn (mainly Russophile, Ukrainophile and radical), Polish (Ludovce) and Jewish (Zionist) political parties in the struggle for the promotion of deputies is analyzed. Attempts to counteract Russian-Ukrainian organizations through the press and the submission of petitions and interpellations in the Austrian Reichsrat to falsifications during election campaigns are considered.

The article discusses М. Hrushevskyi’s interest in Halychyna and his early association with the narodovtsi in 1885–1894 prior to his relocation to Lviv, where, in consequence of the “New Era” policy, he was invited to chair the newly created History of Ukraine Department at Lviv University. The author focuses on the young historian’s connections with the Halychian narodovtsi from the beginning of his association with the region and the publication of his first article in Dilo (The Deed), a Lviv-based newspaper, till his relocation to the capital of Halychyna. INTRODUCTION One of the topical issues in modern Ukrainian historiography concerns the relationships between the activists from Dnieper Ukraine under tsarist Russia and those from Austria-ruled Halychyna, which contributed to forging a sense of all-Ukrainian national unity (sobornist). Between the mid-to-late 19th and the early 20th centuries, one of the greatest upholders of the unification of Dnieper Ukraine with Halychyna was M. Hrushevskyi, an outstanding historian and cultural and political activist, who played a particularly significant role in fostering a sense of Ukrainian nationhood in the Halychian Ruthenians and promoting their unity with the Ukrainians in Russia. According to І. Franko, the development of Ukrainophilia in Halychyna is associated with “representatives of three different generations”, whose influence “spread mostly among the intelligentsia and also partially among the peasantry: in the 60s of the 19th century Kulish had the most dominant influence; in the 70s and 80s, Drahomanov; and in the 90s, Hrushevskyi”.
