WHAM buys local channel Bibliography Document 1 of 1 WHAM buys local channel Author: Chao, Mary ProQuest document link Abstract: Mary Chao Staff writer The parent company of WHAM-TV (Channel 13) has acquired the local CW affiliate, which airs shows such as Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. Full text: Mary Chao Staff writer The parent company of WHAM-TV (Channel 13) has acquired the local CW affiliate, which airs shows such as Girlfriends, Everybody Hates Chris, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. The CW affiliate, WRWB (cable Channel 16), had been a joint venture of Time Warner Cable and Warner Brothers. Now it will be operated by Clear Channel Television's WHAM and will be renamed CW-WHAM, said Chuck Samuels, vice president and general manager of Channel 13, who will head both stations. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The CW was created when Warner Brothers merged with UPN, taking the "C" from CBS, which owned UPN, and the "W" from Warner. The Rochester station will remain on cable Channel 16 and will also be available as WHAM-DT on digital channel 13.2. Samuels said the station will complement Channel 13. "The CW has a very different target audience," he said. "While most networks such as ABC target (ages) 18 to 49, the CW targets 18 to 34, even 12 to 34." The CW will help WHAM's already established news brand by reaching out to younger audiences, Samuels said. WRWB's operations in downtown Rochester will be consolidated into WHAM's facilities in Henrietta.

Branding the Family Drama Genre Formations and Critica[ Perspectives on Gilmore Girls AMANDA R. KEELER Before its debut on October 5, 2000, Gilmore Girls had already made television history. According to an article published in American Demo graphics that year, Gilmore Girls was the "first advertiser advocated show" funded by the Family Friendly Programming Forum (FFPF), a group consisting of major U.S. corporations, who offered up a mil lion dollars to "fund 'family-friendly' script development at the WB," the network that in 2006 partnered with UPN to become the CW ("Television" 2000). Taking into consideration other family-friendly dramatic television series aimed at multigenerational audiences on the CW, such as 7th Heaven (1996-2007) and Everwood (2002-6), one might ask how a program about a single, never-married mom (until the final season), raising her daughter, could constitute family-friendly fare. What particular elements of this Amy Sherman-Palladino cre ation led the FFPF to fund its development? And is "family friendly" a viable genre label? In the context of television programming and criti cism, does genre even matter anymore, considering the hybrid nature of most contemporary series? In this chapter I will investigare what critics have written about Gilmore Girls and how the show has been linked to similar programs in terms of genre classification.

This thesis examines the social, cultural and political history of the Queen Bee figure in the popular culture of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. The Queen Bee is a fluid anti-heroine however, a feminist character who while she tears down others around her to succeed is also genuine with relatable emotions.

  • Beu Sisters Bio ~
Christie, Danielle, and Candice Beu ~ Beu Sisters Bio ~ “Our inspirations come from the universal one song of LOVE. Through unity, ingenuity, creativity, joy and grace, we hope to heal lives and touch hearts.” ~ Beu Sisters Born into a musical family, Candice, Christie and Danielle Beu learned from an early age to appreciate and understand all aspects of the entertainment industry. The sisters, encouraged by their parents, Broadway veterans (“A Chorus Line”), steadily developed their collective and individual talents. In 1988, the Beu family (parents and eight siblings) left the bright lights of New York City for the serene sounds of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. By the end of the ‘90s, the parents divorced and the sisters unified through music, performing on stage with their mother, opening for major artists like Billy Ray Cyrus and Bo Diddley. They soon came to the attention of Award-Winning Songwriter Desmond Child (Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith). He introduced them to Record Producer Steve Greenberg and the sisters became the second act signed to S- Curve Records. In 2002, their debut album “Decisions” was released and received rave reviews. Billboard Magazine wrote, “While the environment for instantly accessible melodic music is often hostile at top 40 radio these days, one must remain optimistic that true talent will rise to the top. THE BEU SISTERS demonstrate enormous versatility on their upcoming, DECISIONS. All involved should pop the champagne cork for an effort that radiates joy, humor, passion, and artful, unaffected singing. These

View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by SHAREOK repository “Let’s Go Gank Ourselves a Paris Hilton”: A Textual Analysis of the Dialogue of Supernatural (the First 10 Years) Liorah Golomb It may seem counterintuitive to examine an audiovisual medium through its dialogue alone, but some linguists have been doing just that. Using a freeware concordance toolkit and other computer programs, I analyzed the dialogue of the first 10 seasons of the American television program Supernatural (2005-present) through several facets in an attempt to demonstrate originality, variety, and how language contributes to character individuation.1 Using fan-made transcripts, I created three main corpora for the study: the SPN Corpus, which includes all dialogue from the first 218 episodes, and the DEAN and SAM Corpora, comprised of all of the dialogue of each of the two main characters. The SUBTLEXUS corpus of American film and television dialogue was used as a reference corpus. A sampling of Supernatural episodes was also compared to that of other contemporary genre shows. Background: Why Supernatural “Supernatural has everything. Life. Death. Resurrection. Redemption. But above all, family.” (Calliope, Supernatural episode 10.05, “Fan Fiction”) To give the barest of summaries, Supernatural is an American television show about two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester (played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, respectively), who were raised as hunters of supernatural beings. Created by Eric Kripke, Supernatural has 1 Generally, episodes referenced in this paper are identified only by season and episode number within the season, so 5.22 refers to the twenty-second episode of the fifth season.

FOUR GILMORES AND A FUNERAL Written by Kara Cutruzzula Based on the TV series created by Amy Sherman-Palladino [email protected] TEASER EXT. GILMORE HOME - NIGHT LORELAI GILMORE (46) - confident, attractive, sharp as a sword - stands at the doorstep of a massive, imposing house, complete with wrought iron gate. She stares at the entrance. LORELAI May God and his human representative on Earth, Dolly Parton, get me through this. Lorelai rings the bell. A MAID answers wearing a very traditional outfit. Think “sexy maid.” Minus the sexy part. LORELAI (CONT'D) I see she’s still got you in the black-and-white get-up. Classic. Very Margaret Mitchell. Lorelai walks inside. INT. GILMORE HOME - CONTINUOUS Lorelai’s mother, EMILY GILMORE (70) - immaculate, poised - enters. She’s not the type of woman who gives a warm welcome. EMILY You’re late. LORELAI Traffic was terrible. Someone should really check on the whereabouts of Chris Christie. EMILY Nevermind. Dinner’s already plated. LORELAI Ooh, we get to use plates this time? Goody. INT. GILMORE DINING ROOM - NIGHT Lorelai and Emily enter to find a beautiful table set for three under a chandelier. They sit a beat in awkward silence. EMILY How long will Rory be? K. Cutruzzula 2.
