Accepted 22 July, 2011 Apocynaceae is an important family due to its credible therapeutic importance and it is widely distributed in tropics and subtropics. Some species of Apocynaceae have been randomly chosen from different regions of Pakistan for the present study. The main objective was to analyze genetic diversity among seven species using cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) technique on a plastid gene encoding ribosomal protein of smaller subunit 11 (rps11). For this purpose, DNA was extracted from young leaves and with the help of a pair of primer, rps11 gene was amplified and seven restriction enzymes namely: TscAI, ScrfI, DpnI, BsiKHAI, MseI, HinfI, BseGI were used to digest the amplified rps11 gene. The results produced were in the form of bands on gels revealing the length of fragments produced after cutting with restriction enzymes. The digested fragments were found to produce monomorphic bands whereas some polymorphic bands were also observed. On the basis of restricted fragments, phylogenetic tree was prepared depicting different number of clusters with varied level of similarity coefficients. It was observed that the species have shown mixed pattern and closely related species appeared at higher genetic distances. -

Cell biology, enzymology and the ¯ow of carbon along various pathways and through various cellular compartments have been well documented and dis- cussed. The present attempt at reviewing CAM once again tries to use a different approach, considering a wide range of inputs, receivers and outputs. d Input Input is given by a network of environmental parameters. Six major ones, CO2,H2O, light, temperature, nutrients and salinity, are considered in detail, which allows discussion of the effects of these factors, and combinations thereof, at the individual plant level (`physiological aut-ecology'). d Receivers Receivers of the environmental cues are the plant types genotypes and phenotypes, the latter includ- ing morphotypes and physiotypes. CAM genotypes largely remain `black boxes', and research endeavours of genomics, producing mutants and following molecular phylogeny, are just beginning. In this order we find an extraordinary wealth of suc• culent forms; first rank among these is indubitably held by the large and interesting tribe of Stapelieae. Other succ.ulent species are found among the genera Ceropegia, Cynanchum, and Sarcostemma. This chapter gives a complete survey of the Stapeliads known to date from Kenya, Tanganyika, and Uganda. The short individual descriptions do not claim to be in any way complete as to every botanical detail; they are intended only to give the main and the most striking features of every plant; together with the numerous and carefully selected photographs they will enable the amateur to recognize these plants in the field and, - it is hoped - to stimulate nis interest in this fascinating group. The task could not have been undertaken without the active support of Miss Eileen A. Bruce of the Herbarium, Kew, who has described most of the recently discovered species, some with the author's collaboration. Messrs. Alain White and Boyd L. Sloane's comprehensive publication "The Stapelieae," three volumes, published by Haselton, Pasadena, 1937,was also indispensable for the present survey, and the author has quoted freely from their admirable descriptions. Special recognition must be given in this place to Mrs. Gwendolyn Copley; Capt. A. T. A. Ritchie, Game Warden for Kenya Colony; and to Mr. C. G. MacArthur, Assistant Game Warden; for their intensive and enthusiastic collecting in remote parts of the Cblony, which resulted in the discovery of several new species, besides yielding much information on the distribution of the Stapeliads. -

India officially recognizes over 3000 plants for their medicinal value. It is generally estimated that over 6000 plants in India are in use in traditional, folk and herbal medicine. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review on the phytochemical and pharmacological aspects of Caralluma fimbriata. It is obtained from forests throughout greater parts of India, it is widely used in traditional medicinal system of India has been reported to possess anti-obesity, antioxidant, and anticancer activity. It is known as a rich source of tannins, flavonoids, phenols and glycosides. The innumerable medicinal properties and therapeutic uses of Caralluma fimbriata as well as its phytochemical investigations prove its importance as a valuable medicinal plant. Introduction Over the last few years, researchers have aimed at identifying and validating plant-derived substances for the treatment of various diseases. To introduce our hobby to the general public by showing as many outstanding plants as possible. 2. To give our members a forum in which to show their plants. 3. To compete in an informal and friendly atmosphere. EXHIBITOR CLASSIFICATIONS This is a local show and as such is limited to those members and exhibitors residing within a two hundred mile radius of San Jose. NOVICE: If you are under 18, have not won a total of 50 first place ribbons in previous CSSA affiliated shows, or have been competing for less than 5 years in CSSA-affiliated shows, you may exhibit in this class. ADVANCED: You must exhibit in this class if you no longer qualify for the above class. OPEN: If you possess or have possessed a nurseryman's license, or earn a substantial income from the sale of plants, you must exhibit in this class. These classes are lower limits - anyone may move up. If you feel you have been unfairly advanced you may appeal to the Board of Directors for classification in a lower category. Family members, except children under 18, must show in the same class. Classes apply to Divisions I to IV only. Divisions V and VI will be judged in a single open class. SHOW RULES 1. Micropropagation of Caralluma Stalagmifera Var. Longipetala: a Rare Succulent Medicinal Plant from Karnataka, India

Received 11 April, 2014; Accepted 28 July, 2014 An efficient in vitro protocol has been developed for the multiplication of shoots and conservation of a rare succulent medicinal plant Caralluma stalagmifera var. longipetala growing wildly in Karnataka State. Proliferation of multiple shoots was achieved on Murashige and Skoog’s (MS) medium supplemented with various concentrations of 6-benzyladenine (BA), Kinetin (Kn), indole acetic acid (IAA), α- naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) alone or with various combinations from the nodal explants. The nodal explants cultured on medium containing BAP (2.0 mg/L) along with 0.5 mg/L Kn and 0.3 mg/L IAA produced the highest number of shoot sprouting (2.60±0.16) and maximum shoot length (3.96±0.20). The considerable frequency of callus induction and embryogenesis was noticed both in 1.0 mg/L NAA and 0.5-2 mg/L, 2, 4-D. The calli transferred to shoot induction medium containing the combination of hormones BAP (1.0 mg/L) plus IAA (0.2 mg/L) and NAA (0.1 mg/L) successfully regenerated in vitro shootlets.
