The Adventures of Pinocchio (Stage) Sent by: D Walter Summary Cornerstone and Goblin are looking for a team of 5 talented actor musicians for our new musical: The Adventures of Pinocchio. Join us at the Spinning Yarn Storytelling Bar, with musical storytelling extraordinaire The Blues Fairy. Together with her band, ‘the Crickets’, she tells the story of Pinocchio. We meet Gepetto as he creates Pinocchio, and follow the naughty puppet as he learns what it is to be human in a confusing world. From finding fame and fortune to finding himself in the belly of a whale, will he side with the good Blues Fairy, or fall foul of the tricky Fox? Live music will be integral to the show, and part of the action. The lively, colourful, imaginative and inventive show will also feature a team of local young people. We are also looking for one actor to be the Musical Director for the production during rehearsal and performance. This person will be a highly accomplished musician who can confidently lead the team musically. The composers/musical supervisors will work closely with the Musical Director during rehearsals. Additional fee will reflect added role/responsibilities. Creative The show is a Cornerstone production, in association with Goblin. Director Kate McGregor Kate is Artistic Director of award-winning Theatre6 and winner of the Noel Coward Trainee Director Award at The Salisbury Playhouse. She trained on the Chicago Director's Lab, National Theatre Studio and the Postgraduate Director's Course at Drama Studio London. She has a First Class BA Hons from The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. In 2017, Kate directed the nationally critically acclaimed production of Moira Buffini's ‘Gabriel’, staring Paul McGann and Belinda Lang, touring to Richmond Theatre, Windsor Theatre Royal, Liverpool Playhouse, Theatre Clywd and Yvonne Arnaud in Guildford. Her other credits include: (Persuasion, UK Tour), The Lost Boy (Theatre in the Quarter), Moments (Chichester Festival Theatre), The Water Engine & Mr Happiness (Old Vic Tunnels, Time Out Award nominated), Kinetics (UK tour), Honest (UK tour), Richard III & Henry V (Sam Wanamaker Playhouse/Shakespeare’s Globe Education), Grace: A Youth Musical (New Wimbledon Theatre), The Ripple Effect (Richmond Theatre), Never Any Fruit (Pleasance Theatre Studio), The Double & The Devil Is An Ass (White Bear Theatre) Writer Matt Borgatti Matt writes, directs and produces family theatre shows. Matt is Artistic Director of theatre company Goblin. Matt has been a venue programmer for children’s theatre and worked as a producer independently as well as in venues. Matt has a M(Phil) in Playwriting from University of Birmingham. Composers Will Dollard & Mary Erskine Mary & Will are songwriters and freelance musicians. Their songs have appeared on Radio 1, BBC6music, Radio 3 Amazing Radio and BBC Scotland as well as being featured on TV and film. Initially joining forces in the band Me for Queen (www.meforqueen.com), together they have written for Goblin Theatre for the past 7 years. Cornerstone Cornerstone is a purpose-built, professional arts, culture and entertainment venue in the heart of Didcot managed and run by South Oxfordshire District Council. Opened in 2008, we present a high quality programme of live performance, participatory activities, artist development programmes, exhibitions and outreach work. Cornerstone comprises a 230 seat auditorium, café bar, gallery and four studios. Goblin Goblin is a children’s theatre company dedicated to imagination, diversity and quality. Goblin has performed in lots of brilliant venues across the UK, including runs at Southbank Centre and the Royal Exchange, Manchester. We’re interesting in telling stories with positive, contemporary themes that children of all backgrounds can relate to. Goblin’s shows are characterised by innovative use of original music, wild creativity and a dose of anarchy. At times innocent, kind and brave, but at times arrogant, rude and selfish – Pinocchio shows both the best and worst children can be. He is an emotionally honest character experiencing the confusing world for the first time, both with joy and sorrow. Throughout his journey he learns what it is to be human, as he tries to be reunited with his dad. He breaks conventions and engages with the audience. She is a charismatic Blues singer who can tell the most amazing stories, and handle mood shifts expertly. Audiences flock to her storytelling bar. He is a local carpenter but always makes something that is missing. Looking after Pinocchio forces him into the world that has passed him by. He is comic character that can easily tip into sadness. He is full of love for Pinocchio and wants to do what’s best. The Fox is a character that only cares about one thing: the fox. The fox comes into the story in various disguises, trying to trick and spin the story so it comes out in her favour. A business person, a bully, an agent, the fox wants to take full advantage of Pinocchio and Gepetto.
