SUMMARY: A catalogue of Spanish inland algae belonging to Chlorophyceae (557 taxa) and Prasi- nophyce 'ae (9 taxa) and found up to July 1981 is given. Tetrasporales: Fott (1972), Hoek (1963a), Lemmermann 8( Brunnthaler (1915), Thompson (1956). Chlorococcales: Archibald 8( Bold (1970), Bigeard (1934), Fott & Nová- ková (1969), Hegewald (1977), Hegewald & Schnepf (1979), Hindak (1984), Jaag (1933), Komárek (1974), Komárek & Fott (1983),Komárková Legnerová (1969), Koválik (1975), Lee 8( Bold (1974), Lemmermann & Brunnthaler (1915), Lewin (1984), Phihppose (1967), Pe háková (1969), Robinson 84 Preston (1971), Schnepf et al. (1966), Smith & Bold (1966), Sodomková (1972), Sulek (1969), Uherkovich (1966). Ulotrichales: Hindak (1963), Lokhorst & Vroman (1972, 1974a, b), Mat- tox & Bold (1962), Pankow (1961), Printz (1964), Ramanathan (1964), Starmach (1972), Wichmann (1937). Chaetophorales: Brand (1925), Cox & Bold (1966), Herndon (1958), Nu- rul Islam (1963), Printz (1964), Starmach (1972), Wiel 8( Reymond (1983). Oedogoniales: Gemeinhardt (1939), Gonzalves (1981), Mroziriska-Webb (1969). Trentepohliales PrIntz (1964), Starmach (1972). Sphaeropleales: Fritsch (1929). Ulvales: Bliding (1963, 1968), Gallardo (1984), Vinogradova (1974). Siphonocladales: Hamel (1931), Hoek (1963b), Starmach (1972). As a result, nine taxa in the Order Chlorococcales including unrecorded genera Oocystidium and Heleococcus were newly added to the Korean flora:Oocystidium ovale, Heleococcus mucicola, Chlorella mirabilis, Monoraphidium convolutum var. pseudosabulosum, M. minutum, Raphidocelis mucosa, Eutetramorus tetrasporus, Scenedesmus flavescens, and S. multicauda. The morphological characteristics of the nine taxa identified in this study mostly corresponded to already reported characteristics; however, M. minutum had a shorter cell length than the re- corded description, Raphidocelis mucosa and S. flavescens were larger than previous descriptions, and Scenedesmus mul- ticauda had larger spines than the cell itself. Eight of the nine taxa were found in planktonic samples, whereas Heleococcus mucicola was found in an epilithic sample. Therefore the Korean order Chlorococcales, including these newly reported ones, totals to 255 species. Keywords: Chlorococcales, epilithic algae, Hongcheon river, new recorded species, phytoplankton INTRODUCTION Order Chlorococcales is taxa belong to phylum Chlo- have been confused, resulting in difficulties identifying rophyta and class Chlorophyceae. Ph.D. Thesis Series, No. 20. University of South Bohemia, Faculty of Science, School of Doctoral Studies in Biological Sciences, České Budějovice, Czech Republic, 239 pp. Annotation Aim of the review part is to summarize a current situation in the systematics of the green coccal algae, which were traditionally assembled in only one order: Chlorococcales. Their distribution into the lower taxonomical unites (suborders, families, subfamilies, genera) was based on the classic morphological criteria as shape of the cell and characteristics of the colony. Introduction of molecular methods caused radical changes in our insight to the system of green (not only coccal) algae and green coccal algae were redistributed in two of newly described classes: Chlorophyceae a Trebouxiophyceae. Representatives of individual morphologically delimited families, subfamilies and even genera and species were commonly split in several lineages, often in both of mentioned classes. For the practical part, was chosen two problematical groups of green coccal algae: family Oocystaceae and family Scenedesmaceae - specifically its subfamily Crucigenioideae, which were revised using polyphasic approach. Based on the molecular phylogeny, relevance of some old traditional morphological traits was reevaluated and replaced by newly defined significant characteristics.
