In 1919 his family moved to Canada to settle. Cragg gained training as a printer and worked in various towns before being hired by the Kamloops Sentinel in 1944. Cragg worked for the Sentinel until his retirement at age 65, and continued to write a weekly opinion column entitled “By The Way” until shortly before his death. During his time in Kamloops Cragg was active in the Kamloops Museum Association, the International Typographical Union (acting as president on the Kamloops branch for a time), the BPO Elks Lodge Kamloops Branch, and the Rock Club. Cragg was married to Queenie Elizabeth Phillips, with whom he had one daughter (Karen). Richard Balderson Alec Cragg died on January 22, 1981 in Kamloops, B.C. at age 68. Scope and Content: Fonds consists predominantly of photographic materials created by R.B.A. Cragg during his time in Kamloops. Fonds also contains a small amount of textual ephemera collected by Cragg and his wife Queenie, such as ration books and souvenir programs.

    tzt @ Background and History of Water Management of Okanagan Lake and River Prepared by: B.J. $ym_gnds-, P. Eng. Water Management Ministry of Environment, Lands and Parks Penticton. BC Since the early 1900's people have regulated the level and discharge of Okanagan Lake. These efforts have led to the development of the current system of dams and channelized reaches of river which control the waters from Okanagan Lake to Osoyoos Lake. The management of lake levels and flows has been controversial from the outset. Although early efforts at controlling Okanagan Lake were exclusively directed at improving navigation capability between Okanagan and Skaha Lakes, others interests soon surfaced. The first of these interests included the maintenance of minimum lake levels for navigation in shallow areas around the lake and a desire to reduce flood levels in Kelowna and other low lying areas. Following a prolonged drought between 1929- 1931 the value of the lake as a storage reservoir to support irrigation was also recognized. Still later fisheries, tourism and recreational interest began to receive consideration in the development of water management strategies. Even now, some 90 years since the initial efforts were made to manage Okanagan Lake and River and despite several attempts at consultation to reach agreement on the management of the lake, the regulation of the system remains controversial. Pre-Development Lake Levels : Very little data is available on the natural range of Okanagan Lake levels and outflows prior to regulation, although there are some anecdotal observations. About 1908 a request was made to the federal government for improvements to the channel of Okanagan River to permit small shallow draught vessels to operate between Skaha Lake and Okanagan Lake.

People have used waterways as a means of exploration and transportation. Exploration opened up new lands. Often, new settlements were built near waterways. Once people settled in new areas, they needed a way to get supplies in and trade goods out. This need for transportation was true on Okanagan Lake in the late 1800s. There were not many white people in the Okanagan Valley at that time because there was not an efficient transportation system in place. But as more commercial boats travelled on Okanagan Lake, more people settled on the lake’s shore. Water transportation helped to settle the Okanagan Valley. Dawn of the Steamboats The S.S. Aberdeen and the S.S. Okanagan were the first Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) sternwheelers on Okanagan Lake. S.S. stands for steamship. The CPR sternwheelers used steam power to drive the large paddlewheels at the back, or stern, of the boats. These boats were also called paddlewheelers because of the large paddlewheels. The sternwheelers were used to transport people, food, supplies, tools, clothes, and mail. They also carried horses, cattle, and 35 machinery. They were a very important means of transportation in the Okanagan Valley. The CPR built the Aberdeen and the Okanagan because there was a need for regular transportation from Okanagan Landing, which was at the end of the Shuswap & Okanagan Railway line, to Penticton at the south end of Okanagan Lake.

This compilation summarizes titles of articles published in 2015. Additionally, pertinent titles of articles published prior to 2015 also have been included if they had not been cited in previous reviews (or to correct errors in previous annual bibliographies), and authors of several sections have also included citations for recent (2016 and 2017) publications.
