    21 DE ENERO: ANIVERSARIO DEL NACIMIENTO DE IGNACIO ALLENDE México conmemora el 21 de enero el nacimiento de Ignacio Allende, quien, al lado de Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, fue uno de los más destacados caudillos de la primera fase de la Guerra de Independencia de México. Ignacio María Allende y Unzaga nació en 1769 en San Miguel El Grande, Guanajuato (hoy San Miguel de Allende, en su honor). Hijo de familia acomodada, en 1795 ingresó al ejército y fue teniente del Regimiento Provincial de Dragones de la Reina. Su vida en el ejército colonial le permitió conocer y compartir los ideales de libertad e independencia de grupos de liberales. Esa inquietud política lo llevó a participar en 1809 en la conspiración de Valladolid (hoy Morelia), misma que fue descubierta y sus dirigentes detenidos. Allende apenas logró escapar, y posteriormente se adhirió a otra facción conspiradora en Querétaro, dirigida por el corregidor Miguel Domínguez y su esposa, Josefa Ortiz. En el grupo también estaban el cura de Dolores, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, Mariano Abasolo y los hermanos Ignacio y Juan Aldama. La conspiración también fue traicionada y descubierta. Allende e Hidalgo pudieron escapar oportunamente. Pero ya descubiertos, Hidalgo propuso lanzarse a la lucha de inmediato, y lo convenció de adelantar la rebelión en el pueblo de Dolores. Así, en la noche del 15 de septiembre de 1810, convocaron al pueblo a tomar las armas. Al frente de un gran contingente de criollos e indígenas, Hidalgo adoptó el estandarte con la Virgen de Guadalupe como insignia de su lucha. Pronto conformaron un ejército insurgente de más de 80,000 hombres, la mayoría campesinos y rancheros.

    LA TELENOVELA HISTÓRICA EN MÉXICO: APUNTES PARA LA CONSTRUCCIÓN DE UN PROYECTO CON “BENEFICIO SOCIAL” The historical soap opera in Mexico: notes on the construction of a project for "social benefit" René León Valdez - [email protected] Resumen El presente artículo parte de una breve explicación sobre la sociedad de masas y los compor- tamientos y actitudes que asumen los individuos ante determinadas formas simbólicas. Se aborda el surgimiento del género de las telenovelas. En México fue creado un modelo melodramático para ser transmitido y consumido por las audiencias. De esta propuesta de modelos narrativos en las telenovelas surge la producción de series que incursionan en la recreación de acontecimientos históricos al desarrollar paralelamente las vidas de los personajes clave dentro de la historia y, en algunos casos, alternando con protagonistas ficcticios que ofrecen a la trama una mayor creatividad narrativa. Se explica en orden cronológico la aparición de estos productos y el lugar primordial que ocuparon en su momento, ya fuera por la temática histórica desarrollada en la trama, por la interpretación de las ficguras más importantes de la historia de México y por las implicaciones ideológicas que estuvieron presentes durante su producción. Palabras Clave: Historia, comunicación de masas, telenovela, ficcción, realidad histórica, beneficcio social. Abstract This article begins with a brief explanation about mass society and the attitudes and behaviors that individuals assume before determined symbolic ficgures. The emergence of the soap opera genre is addressed. A melodramatic model was created in Mexico to be broadcasted and consumed by audiences. From this proposal of narrative models in soap operas rises the production of series that venture on the recreation of historical events by equally developing the lives of key characters of history, and in some cases, alternating with main characters that are ficctional and offer the plot a greater narrative creativity.

    Memorias del último de los primeros soldados de la independencia. Pedro José Sotelo En agosto de 1874, en Dolores, el señor Pedro Sotelo –quien había nacido en ese lugar 84 años antes– rindió testimonio ante el alcalde local de su participación en la guerra de Independencia. Su relato biográfi co se detiene sobre todo en los siete años que convivió con Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. Describe entre otros asuntos: el comportamien- to del caudillo en los años previos al levantamiento armado, la noche larga del 15 de septiembre de 1810, las batallas en la alhóndiga de Granaditas, el cerro de Las Cruces y Aculco; así como el itinerario seguido por los insurgentes durante la primera etapa del movimiento. Al fi nal, enlista nombres de alfareros, sederos, coheteros y vecinos de Dolores, héroes hasta entonces anónimos que respondieron al grito por la libertad y la independencia del país. El declarante quedó huérfano de padre a los 12 años de edad; su hermano, Pedro Salomé huyó después de matar a un hombre en una riña. Preocupada por su educa- ción, su madre lo encargó al cuidado del cura Hidalgo, con quien aprendió, a partir de 1803, los ofi cios de alfarero y pintor artesanal. Además de casa, sustento y sueldo por sus servicios como ofi cial en la alfarería, el cura aceptó mediar para que el joven So- telo se casara –con una huérfana protegida en la casa de Mariano Abasolo– y costeó los gastos de la boda ocurrida en 1809. En ese mismo año, como a otros artesanos, Hidalgo le confi ó la idea de tomar las armas y liberar al país de la opresión tiránica de los gachupines “no disfrutamos los frutos de nuestro suelo porque ellos son los dueños de todo”.

SHAW, AND CARLOS VALDES-CASILLAS Abstract. Despite extensive losses of wetlands caused by water diversions upstream, the Colorado River Delta in northwestern Mexico remains an important wetland system in the Sonoran Desert. The purpose of our study was to describe waterbird communities across a variety of wetland habitat types and zones that exist in the Delta. We measured species richness and abundance of waterbirds from September 1999 to August 2000. We observed a total of 11,918 individuals of 71 species at sites within seven wetland areas. The waterbird communitie differed with respect to guild composition and species abundances among the wetland zones. Wetlands along the eastern portion of the Delta (Cienega and Indio). which are upported by agricultural drains and managed under conservation initiatives, exhibited the highest species richness in our ummer and winter censuses, and highest abundance in summer. Shorebirds were the dominant guild in the summer period, while waterfowl were dominant during winter. Breeding marshbirds were also abundant, with the Yuma Clapper Rail (Rallus longirostris yumanensis) being most notable. Wetlands along the western Delta (Hardy and Cucapa) were al. o supported by agricultural drains, but were not managed specifically for wildlife. The Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocora:x auritus) and American Coot (Fulica americana) were dominant during winter, while long-legged wader (Ardeidae) were dominant in ummer. The com­ po ition of waterbird communities along the mainstem of the Colorado River was similar to that of wetlands along the western portion of the Delta.
