JAR-viss Alija Pittnger | 4th Season | Michigan ’01 | Pronounced: ah-LEE-uh PITT-en-jerr • Alija Pittenger was named the head coach of the Loyola University Maryland volleyball program on January 26, 2015, and is in her fifth season with the Greyhounds. • Prior to coming to Loyola, Pittenger was the head coach at Fairfield University from 2008- 13 and after moving to the Baltimore area, she was an assistant coach at nearby Towson University in 2014. • She is a three-time conference coach of the year, earning the Patriot League recognition in 2018 at Loyola and the 2011 and 2012 MAAC honor at Fairfield. • In her 11 years as a head coach, Pittenger has amassed a 154-160 overall record and has reached the postseason seven times. • She guided Fairfield to four Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season champion- ships (2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013) and reached the MAAC Championships in all six of her seasons in Connecticut. • Pittenger and the Stags won the MAAC Championships in 2012 and 2013 to advance to the NCAA Championships. • She started her coaching career at the University of Southern Indiana in 2002, helping the Screaming Eagles to the NCAA Division II Championships Second Round. Pittenger then spent 2003-07 as an assistant at the University of Pittsburgh and was a part of two NCAA tournament coaching staffs for the Panthers. Ernst put away 250 kills for an average of 3.79 per set.
