1944 Pan-Turanism Movements: from Cultural Nationalism to Political Nationalism
УПРАВЛЕНИЕ И ОБРАЗОВАНИЕ MANAGEMENT AND EDUCATION TOM V (3) 2009 VOL. V (3) 2009 1944 PAN-TURANISM MOVEMENTS: FROM CULTURAL NATIONALISM TO POLITICAL NATIONALISM A. Baran Dural ABSTRACT: The trial of Turanism in 1944 has a historical importance in terms of nationalism being an ac- tionary movement in Turkish history. When socialism turned out to be a dreadful ideology by getting reactions all over the world, there would not be any more natural attitude than that intellectuals coming from an educa- tion system full of nationalist proposals conflicted with this movement. However, that the same intellectuals crashed the logic of the government saying “if needed, we bring communism, then we deal with it without the help of anyone” was really a dramatic paradox. Movements of Turkism on 3rd of May did not curb the movement of Turkism, on the contrary, the transformation the government avoided most happened and supporters of Turk- ism spread to all parts of the country by politicizing. While Nihal Atsız, one of the nationalist leaders of the time- was summarizing results taken out from the trial process by his ideology, he could not even be regarded unjust in his remarks saying “The 3rd of May became a turning point in the history of Turkism. Turkism, which was only a thought and emotion and which could not go beyond literary and scientific borders, became a movement sud- denly on the 3rd of May, 1944”. Keywords: Turanism Movements, Turk nationalism, one-party ideology, Nihal Atsız, socialism, racism. -
From the Great Empire to the Islamic Republic Minorities in Iran: Assimilated Identities, & Denied Rights
From The Great Empire to The Islamic Republic Minorities in Iran: Assimilated Identities, & Denied Rights Tarık Albitar Abstract As the current modern state system is composed of nearly two hundred states that encompass more than five thousand ethnic groups, these groups speak more than three thousand languages. This form of diversity has become a real element within any modern society. Moreover, recognition and respect for these dissimilarities are assumed to be vital for stabilizing domestic affairs and ensure peace and prosperity within a state. In fact, the development of minorities concept came along with/as a result of many factors, one of these factors was the development of other concepts such as nation, citizenship, and superior identity/macro-identity, especially with the rise of remarkable philosophical and intellectual movements during and after the French revolution such as J. J. Rousseau and his social contract. The real development of the minority rights, however, came along with the development of the human rights universalism, which came as a result of the horrifying human losses and the wide-scale of human rights abuses, during the Second World War. Iran, on the other hand, had witnessed enormous historical development; these developments had resulted in creating a widely diversified society in terms of religious views, ethnicities, and linguistic communities. The first national project, however, had failed to emulate the Western model of the modern state and thus was unable to complete its national project, especially after the rise of the Islamic Revolution. On the other hand, the post-revolution Iranian constitution is based on religious interpretations of Islam (Jaafari / Twelfth Shi'a), thus some of the existed minorities are recognized and many others are denied. -

Asala & ARF 'Veterans' in Armenia and the Nagorno-Karabakh Region
Karabakh Christopher GUNN Coastal Carolina University ASALA & ARF ‘VETERANS’ IN ARMENIA AND THE NAGORNO-KARABAKH REGION OF AZERBAIJAN Conclusion. See the beginning in IRS- Heritage, 3 (35) 2018 Emblem of ASALA y 1990, Armenia or Nagorno-Karabakh were, arguably, the only two places in the world that Bformer ASALA terrorists could safely go, and not fear pursuit, in one form or another, and it seems that most of them did, indeed, eventually end up in Armenia (36). Not all of the ASALA veterans took up arms, how- ever. Some like, Alex Yenikomshian, former director of the Monte Melkonian Fund and the current Sardarapat Movement leader, who was permanently blinded in October 1980 when a bomb he was preparing explod- ed prematurely in his hotel room, were not capable of actually participating in the fighting (37). Others, like Varoujan Garabedian, the terrorist behind the attack on the Orly Airport in Paris in 1983, who emigrated to Armenia when he was pardoned by the French govern- ment in April 2001 and released from prison, arrived too late (38). Based on the documents and material avail- able today in English, there were at least eight ASALA 48 www.irs-az.com 4(36), AUTUMN 2018 Poster of the Armenian Legion in the troops of fascist Germany and photograph of Garegin Nzhdeh – terrorist and founder of Tseghakronism veterans who can be identified who were actively en- tia group of approximately 50 men, and played a major gaged in the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh (39), but role in the assault and occupation of the Kelbajar region undoubtedly there were more. -

The present report is submitted pursuant to Security Council resolution 1244 (1999) by which the Council decided to establish the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and requested the Secretary-General to report at regular intervals on the implementation of the mandate. It covers the activities of UNMIK and developments in Kosovo (Serbia), from 1 June to 31 August 2007. Kosovo future status process 2. On 1 August, I issued a statement welcoming the Contact Group’s agreement on modalities for further negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina during a new period of engagement. This effort is being led by a “Troika”, comprising representatives of the European Union, the Russian Federation and the United States of America. The United Nations has been providing support to the Troika’s mediation effort. On 30 August, the Troika held proximity talks in Vienna with delegations representing Serbia and Kosovo. Prior to those talks, the Troika held its first meeting with the Serbian Government on 10 August and with the Kosovo Unity Team on 11 and 12 August. I look forward to the Contact Group reporting to me on the results of the period of engagement by 10 December. Political situation 3. During the reporting period, the overriding political focus in Kosovo was on the deliberations on a new resolution in the Security Council. The Kosovo Albanian community and its leadership expressed disappointment when the Council failed to adopt a new resolution. -

He was first to be engaged in science among new Uzbek educated men despite his career in editorial, publication and journalism. His school textbooks, scientific articles, in particular his views on linguistics were clear indication of his achievements in this sphere of science. In his articles devoted to languages Behbudi paid attention to the pressing issues of modern linguistics and he put forward his ideas worth considering in this field of science. An analysis of Behbudi's articles in this area shows that he conducted a number of studies in dialectology, sociology, and cultural anthropology. Milli Mücadele Döneminde Mehmet Akif Ve Islamcilik*
Turkish Studies - International Periodical For The Languages, Literature and History of Turkish or Turkic Volume 9/12 Fall 2014, p. 563-572, ANKARA-TURKEY MİLLİ MÜCADELE DÖNEMİNDE MEHMET AKİF VE İSLAMCILIK* Emin OBA** Dinçer ÖZTÜRK** Hulisi GÜRBÜZ** ÖZET Mehmet Akif Ersoy edebi kişiliği, ahlakı ve yaşam tarzı ile örnek bir insan modelidir. Çalışmamızda, Mehmet Akif’in İslamcılık fikirleri ve faaliyetleri hakkında bilgi verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Akif’in İslamcılık fikri için yaptıklarına değinilmiştir. Mehmet Akif’in Milli Mücadele’deki faaliyetleri ve fikirleri verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Akif, Müslüman toplumların, Gayr-ı Müslim toplumların boyunduruğu altında yaşayamayacağı fikrini savunmuştur. Osmanlı devletinin yıkılma sürecine girmesinden dolayı, imparatorluğun bünyesinde yaşayan devletlerin kendi kaderinin tayin etmesi gerektiği fikrini savunarak, Milli Mücadeleye her alanda destek vermiştir. Akif’in siyasi yönü üzerinde de durulmuştur. O siyasetin her türlüsünden kaçınmıştır, daha ileri giderek siyaset kelimesinden bile uzak durmuştur. Siyasetten Allah’a sığınmıştır.
