Page Four THE ROCKETEER Friday, June 19, 1964 Friday, June 19, 1964 THE ROCKETEER Page Five Editorial China Lake Day Nursery 18 Graduate From Apprentice Program Kennedy Library Seen Little Ones Learn Arts, As Living Memorial Since the tragic death of President John F. Kennedy Nov. 22, Sciences at Day Camp 1963, many public facilities such as airports, schools and parks have been dedicated in his honor. While all of these are fitting tributes, a fund·raising cam· paign is currently underway to provide a national memorial to President Kennedy whicb will stand above all others in belping to keep his memory alive. The funds will be used to build the John F. Kennedy Library on the banks of the Charles River in Boston, Mass. - a site the President chose himself eight weeks before his death. This library will be more than simply another building or monument bearing the President's name. Its planners envision it as a living and working memorial, expressing President Ken· nedy's concern for his country and the world. Tbe library will include a museum which will house many of the mementos associated with President Kennedy and his times. Those planning it hope to make the experiences of recent history as vivid as possible for visitors, especially students and young people. There will also be an archive which will contain President BESWICK AWARD WINNER - Herbert Swader (right) ac· MACHINISTS - Howard Grant, president of Frank Johns, Donald Standa rd, George Finch· Kennedy's personal papers, as well as copies of public records cepts Beswick Award from Donald Davis, wi nner of the necessary for an understanding of the actions of his administra· Desert Lodge No. 442 of the International er, Paul Mills. A third component of the Library will be an institute, with the central purpose of educating young people in the under· standing and practice of democratic political life. It will offer scholarships, research material, lectures, seminars and public programs to help achieve these purposes. The cost of the Kennedy Library will total $10 million-all of which will be obtained by voluntary contributions. When it is completed, it will be turned over to the government as ana· tional institution and, as such, will belong to all Americans.
