SALE HEADLINES FTBOA.COM Phoenix Rises To Buy Scat Daddy Colt By TBhRe OOCcKal Sa HBErReeIDdeArNs’ Sales Company’s March Sale got underway Tuesday with large crowds and plenty of action for the bid spotters and auctioneers. The first day of the prestigious Hip No. 141 topped two-day auction saw 111 head sell for Tuesday’s session $19,625,000. Last during the first day of the at $875,000 March sale, 148 sophomores passed through the sale ring and generated $26,776,500. While there were fewer horses that sold this year and no mil - lion dollar babies like there was on the first day of the sale in 2017, the average price remained fairly steady at $176,802 compared to the $180,855 average last year, a decrease of 2.2 percent. However, the median price rose from $100,000 to $105,000 for a 5 percent increase. Hip 141 brought a bid of $875,000 from Amer Abdulaziz of Phoenix Thoroughbreds III. By the late Scat Daddy out of the Royal Academy mare Accusation, the filly is a half-sister to stakes winner and Grade 2-placed Sharp Sensation and stakes-placed runners Edgerin J, True Religion and Innocent Man. True Religion is also a stakes producer. The sophomore filly was consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds and worked a quarter-mile in :9 4/5, the co-fastest time for the sale, at the under tack workout show. “A very athletic filly,” said Abdulaziz. “We re - ally love the stallion and I think [Hip 141] is the best in the sale.
