8 REETH AND DISTRICT GAZETTE LTD Women’s World Day Of Prayer

The Women’s World Day of Prayer Service will be held on Friday 2nd March 2018 at 2.30pm at St Mary’s Church, Arkengarthdale. The interdenominational service has been written this year by the women of Suriname in South America and we will be joining an estimated 3 million people around the world in the service that day. Starting in Samoa as the sun rises, and ending as the sun sets off the coast of American Samoa, the service will have been translated into more than 95 languages and 1000 dialects as we are reminded that we have responsibilities in caring for this wonderful world we live in. With its rainforest and wealth of resources, Suriname asks us to pray for conservation and the protection of wildlife, through awareness of pollution, misuse and abuse, as well as for the situation in Suriname and concerns for the future. This is not simply a day of prayer for women, but for everyone who cares about our world and those who live in it. We do hope you will join us. 35 REETH AND DISTRICT GAZETTE LTD The Art of Cuisine and Cuisine of Art

Ghislaine Howard has two major passions: painting and cooking. In The Arts Society Wensleydale lecture on February 13th at 2.00pm in the Key Centre, Middleham she combines both. Ghislaine discusses the fabulous meals of Toulouse Lautrec and the introduction of Provencal peasant cooking to Paris by Renoir, while including the tastes of Monet, Cezanne, Picasso and others. She reflects on how art and cooking, eating and looking are inextricably entwined in our lives and culture. Ghislaine is a professional painter, named as a Woman of the Year in 2008 for her contribution to Art and Society. She has work in many collections including the Royal Collection. Ghislaine’s special booklet of artists’ recipes will be available to buy for £2 at the lecture. Any profits from the sale will go to fund TASW Young Arts projects. In the 50th Jubilee year of The Arts Society, we hope to attract new members who will receive a very warm welcome. Visitors pay £8 a lecture, which will be refunded if they join.
