RESIGNATION OF SPEAKER On 17 June 1986, the Legislative Assembly received a letter from His Hon. the Administrator, dated 16 June 1986, advising Members of the resignation of Mr R. M. Steele (Member for Ludmilla) as Speaker of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly. Mr R. W. S. Vale (Member for Braitling) was elected as Speaker of the House in his place.

NEW CHIEF MINISTER Following the resignation of the Chief Minister the Hon. P. A. E. Everingham on 16 October 1984, the Hon. I. L. Tuxworth was appointed as Chief Minister on 17 October 1984.

NEW CHIEF MINISTER On 15 May 1986 the Hon. S. P. Hatton was appointed as Chief Minister replacing Hon. I. L. Tuxworth.

NEW LEADER OF OPPOSITION On 18 August 1986, Mr Robert (Bob) Linsday Collins resigned as Leader of the Opposition and Mr Terry Smith as Leader of the Opposition on the 19 August 1986.

BY-ELECTION Following the resignation of the Hon. P. A. E. Everingham (Member for Jingili) on 22 October 1984, a by-election was held on 15 December 1984, resulting in Mr R. A. Setter being elected.

RE-ELECTION OF MEMBER FOR BARKLY The election of Mr I. L. Tuxworth on 7 March 1987 was declared void due to a candidate not being an Australian citizen. Mr Tuxworth was re-elected on 5 September 1987.
