Megafoner Och Cocktailpartyn
We Write to Nominate Edward Joseph Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize
30 January 2017 To the Members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee: We write to nominate Edward Joseph Snowden for the Nobel Peace Prize. Alfred Nobel intended that the Peace Prize would promote disarmament. Today, militaries around the world place ever greater emphasis on engagement in cyberspace, with its almost unlimited possibilities for spying, disruption, and destruction. No one has sounded the alarm more eloquently than Edward Snowden as regards military encroachment upon the world's systems of electronic communication, and how such encroachment violates rights of privacy and threatens the continued existence of democracy. Edward Snowden became one of history's great whistleblowers when he revealed to leading journalists that the United States conducts all-encompassing mass surveillance around the world. In a conscientious and responsible manner, he exposed a system in which the phone, internet and other communications of individuals and whole nations are intercepted and permanently stored. Snowden insisted that it must be up to an informed global citizenry to decide whether they wish to live in a world in which they are constantly monitored by the United States military. With courage and careful judgment, he initiated a global debate about surveillance systems that operate beyond democratic control and the rule of law. Many states are now trying to build up similar capacities as the US. Snowden´s work has permitted an open and democratic debate, globally, about the risks of cyberwarfare and global surveillance. Snowden's contribution is of particular importance today, when the American military's capacities for interception and disruption in cyberspace are under the authority of a new commander-in-chief. -
The Precarious Situation for Wolf Conservation Draws Attention to A
To: Prime Minister of Norway Jens Stoltenberg Prime Minister of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt Prime Minister of Finland Jyrki Katainen Copy: Minister of the Environment Bård Vegar Solhjell, Norway Minister for the Environment Lena Ek, Sweden Minister of the Environment Ville Niinistö, Finland Minister of Agriculture and Food Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, Norway Minister for Rural Affairs Eskil Erlandsson, Sweden Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Koskinen, Finland European Commissioner for the Environment Janez Potočnik. Bern Convention Secretariat 20 November 2012 Dear Prime Ministers Jens Stoltenberg, Fredrik Reinfeldt and Jyrki Katainen 25 Environmental NGOs in Norway, Sweden and Finland on behalf of 800.000 members are calling for a more ambitious, responsible and long-term management plan for our shared large carnivore populations, to safeguard their existence in the Fennoscandian ecosystems. We encourage the governments of Norway, Sweden and Finland to establish a joint management platform for large carnivores, beginning with the wolf. The Scandinavian wolf population is suffering from isolation, reduced genetic variation and inbreeding. Sweden has approximately 300 wolves, and the wolf is classified as Endangered on the national Red List. Finland’s wolf population has now been reduced to less than 200 individuals, and is classified as Endangered in the Red List. In Norway the wolf population size is down to 25 individuals in total. Wolves in Norway are listed as Critically Endangered in the Red List. The politically defined population target allows only three annual litters, which is the main reason for the current Red List classification. Furthermore, only around one per cent of Norway’s territory is designated for occupation by wolves. -

Snabbprotokoll 2009/10:60, Torsdagen Den 21 Januari-Kl. 14.00

Sweden Manual
Communicating Europe: Sweden Manual Information and contacts on the Swedish debate on EU enlargement in the Western Balkans Supported by the Strategic Programme Fund of the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office 2 Communicating Europe: Sweden Manual ABOUT THIS MANUAL Who shapes the debate on the future of EU enlargement in Sweden today as the country takes over the EU Presidency in July 2009? This manual aims to provide an overview by introducing the key people and key institutions. It starts with a summary of core facts about Sweden. It looks at the packed timetable of the Swedish EU Presidency and the many issues on its agenda – including EU enlargement and visa liberalisation for the Western Balkan states. As background to one of the most intensive EU presidencies in recent years the manual describes the Swedish scene; the most important interest groups, the key government institutions, the current government, parliament and the main political parties and the key think-tanks. It looks at the country‟s mix of economic liberalism and welfare policies. It offers an overview of the policy debates on the EU, on future enlargement and the Western Balkans. Space is also given to the media landscape; TV, radio and print media and the internet-based media. As the British academic Timothy Garton Ash has recently written: “Talking here to a leading figure in the upcoming Swedish presidency of the EU, one understands what a hectic circus it will be in the last few months of 2009.” Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt has commented on the government‟s intensive presidency planning: “Sometimes things turn out like the John Lennon song: „Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans‟.” The prime minister added: “Planning is important, but things seldom turn out the way you intended.” Any debate in a vibrant democracy is characterised by a range of views.
