AP English Literature and Composition Summer Reading 2019-2020 Lisa Conyer
[email protected] What follows is a list of novels and plays that have appeared on past Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition exams. Please select three works and read, highlight, and annotate them this summer. Advanced readers and thinkers understand that annotating is simply “actively engaging” with the text. Make annotations that will be helpful in our discussion and writing this fall. Look for elements of fiction, literary devices, and themes. Please do not select a work that you have already read and/or studied in class. Please do not resort to summaries. Please bring the books with you on the first day of class in August. I will ask you to list the works and authors that you read, and I will select one from your list for an in-class timed writing. Following that, you will choose one of the three on which to write a stylistic analysis, and you will create a “book card” for the third title. Happy reading! Hamlet A Tale of Two Cities The P.S.
