    Welcome To Grace Primitive Baptist Church We are thankful for your interest in Grace Primitive Baptist Church and pray you will see fit to visit us or visit us again. The purpose of this introductory pamphlet is to better acquaint you with the beliefs of the church. Since we are a typical Primitive Baptist church, much of the pamphlet will discuss the beliefs of Primitive Baptists in general. Primitive Baptists are a small denomination having significant differences from most other churches. These are differences you will want to understand, and we hope you will also examine them under the light of scripture to confirm they are indeed Bible-based. Numerous scriptural references are given for the claims that are made Primitive Baptists are an ancient body. The word “primitive” primarily means “original,” and this is the meaning in “Primitive Baptist.” We have beliefs and practices almost identical to that of Baptists in early America and England. Many Baptists in America derived from the “Regular Baptists.” The Primitive Baptists and old Regular Baptists are essentially the same. One of the most distinguishing marks of Primitive Baptists is that we believe the Bible to be the sole rule of faith and practice. We not only believe the Bible to be inerrant, but also believe it to be sufficient for all spiritual needs and obligations of man (2Tim 3:16, 1Pet 4:11). As a consequence, we aim for a greater degree of Bible conformity than most modern churches. Since the Bible was written in the infinite wisdom of God, we believe it to be void of both error and oversight, and therefore believe any departure from its precepts or precedents will either be in error or else entail loss of effectiveness toward achieving objectives that are important to God.

The American Baptist Denomination has experienced a serious decline in members and overall effectiveness during the past forty years. At the same time, a number of American Baptist pastors and congregations have entered into a Spirit-filled, empowered ministry with significant evangelistic conversion growth and multi-gifted charismatic breakthroughs. With the evidence that traditional Baptist Churches can be transformed through a spiritual renewal into dynamic, growing congregations which are serving their communities with the power of God, the Holy Spirit Renewal Ministries seeks to assist pastors into a renewal through the programs, influence, and goals of the Holy Spirit Renewal Ministries in American Baptist Churches, Incorporated.     238 CHURCH, PLACE AND ORGANIZATION The Development of the New Connexion General Baptists in Lincolnshire, 1770-18911 The history and developm~nt of the New Connexion of· the General Baptists represented a particular response to the challenges which the Evangelical Revival brought to the old dissenting churches. Any analysis of this response has to be aware of three key elements in the life of the Connexion which were a formative part in the way it evolved: the role of the gathered church, the context of the place within which each church worked and the structures which the organization of the Connexion provided. None of them was unique to it, nor did any of them, either individually, or with another, exercise a predominant influence on it, but together they contributed to the definition of a framework of belief, practice and organization which shaped its distinctive development. As such they provide a means of approaching its history. At the heart of the New Connexion lay the gathered churches. In the words of Adam Taylor, writing in the early part of the nineteenth century, they constituted societies 'of faithful men, voluntarily associated to support the interests of religion and enjoy its privilege, according to their own views of these sacred subjects'. 2 These churches worked within the context of the places where they had been established, and this paper is concerned with the development of the New Connexion among the General Baptist churches of Lincolnshire. Moreover, these Lincolnshire churches played a formative role in the establishment of the New Connexion, so that their history points up the partiCUlar character of the relationship between churches and the concept of a connexion as it evolved within the General Baptist community.

Box 851, Valley forge, PA 19482-0851. Around 1481, a local chronicler from Seville narrated a most incredible story centering around one of the city’s most prominent citizens, Diego de Susán. He was among Seville’s wealthiest and most influential citizens, a councilor in city government, and, perhaps most important, he was father to Susanna—the fermosa fembra (“beautiful maiden”). He was also a converso, and was connected with a group of city merchants and leaders, most of whom were conversos as well. All were opponents to Isabella’s government. According to this narration, Susán was at the heart of a plot to overthrow the work of the newly created Inquisition. He summoned a meeting of Seville’s power brokers and other rich and powerful men from the towns of Utrera and Carmona. These said to one another, ‘What do you think of them acting thus against us? Are we not the most propertied members of this city, and well loved by the people? Let us collect men together…’ And thus between them they allotted the raising of arms, men, money and other necessities. ‘And if they come to take us, we, together with armed men and the people will rise up and slay them and so be revenged on our enemies.’[1] The fly in the ointment of their plans was the fermosa fembra herself.

Trulson Revised February, 2017 1 American Baptist International Ministries was formed over two centuries ago by Baptists in the United States who believed that God was calling them to work together “in one sacred effort” to make disciples of all nations. Organized in 1814, it is the oldest Baptist international mission agency in North America and the second oldest in the world, following the Baptist Missionary Society formed in England in 1792 to send William and Dorothy Carey to India. International Ministries currently serves more than 1,800 short- term and long-term missionaries annually, bringing U.S. and Puerto Rico churches together with partners in 74 countries in ministries that tell the good news of Jesus Christ while meeting human needs. This is a review of the missiology exemplified by American Baptist International Ministries that has both emerged from and helped to shape American Baptist life. 2 American Baptists are better understood as a movement than an institution. Whether religious or secular, movements tend to be diverse, multi-directional and innovative. To retain their character and remain true to their core purpose beyond their first generation, movements must be able to do two seemingly opposite things. They must adopt dependable procedures while adapting to changing contexts. If they lose the balance between organization and innovation, most movements tend to become rigidly institutionalized or to break apart. Baptists have experienced both. For four centuries the American Baptist movement has borne its witness within the mosaic of Christianity.
