    Dec 6, 2016 It’s all about SNOW! Come and see Japan’s magical winter sceneries Tobu Railway Co., Ltd. Tobu Railway Co. Ltd, the biggest private railroad company in Kanto, Japan, offers routes to enjoy Japan’s unique and beautiful winter scenery with the number of limited seasonal events across Kanto and Tohoku area. The Nikko & Kinugawa area of Tochigi prefecture is surrounded by the great wonders of nature and numerous historical buildings such as Nikko Toshogu Shrine - the foremost representative of the UNESCO World Heritage shrines and temples. In this area, you can enjoy a variety of beautiful winter sceneries and unique activities including “Japan’s New Year Cuisine” with OMOTENASHI, the Japanese hospitality under the winter festivals such as the “Kamakura Festival” of Yunishigawa Onsen and the “Okunikko Yumoto Onsen Snow Festival” which is designated a “Night View Inheritance of Japan”. One of the magical scenes, which symbolize the snow festivals is the “kamakuras”. “Kamakura” is a snow cave made by digging a hole in the center of a huge pile of snow that is large enough for people to go in. The large number of “kamakuras” will be lighted up in the evening and this spectacle sceneries will bring you to another world. If you travel a bit further up to north, you can enjoy the “Ouchi-Juku Snow Festival” in Fukushima prefecture where will be a fantastical light up with the Japanese traditional houses preserved since the Edo era (Over 400 years ago). If you are a skier, you should visit the “Juhyo Festival” in the Zao Onsen Ski Resort in Yamagata prefecture to see “snow monsters” which are lighting up white birch trees covered with snow.

With World Heritage Nikko Toshogu Shrine where the first shogun that started the Edo Period is enshrined, Ouchi-juku where landscape of a post town of the Edo Period when samurais existed is preserved and Tsurugajo Castle where a fierce battle of the civil war that ended the Edo Period took place, the route lets you enjoy the experience of traveling back in time to the Edo Period. Here is a recommended trip into history on the “Samurai Route”. Day 1 Trip into history on the “Samurai Route” 8:00 AM Visit Senso-ji Temple The trip into history on the “Samurai Route” starts from Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa. Shops selling typical Japanese souvenirs and Japanese confectioneries are lined up in the Nakamise street leading from the Kaminarimon gate with the large lantern to the main temple. Established in the Edo Period, it is known to be one of the oldest shopping centers in Japan. As some shops open from 8:00AM, you can go shopping after visiting Nakamise the temple early in the morning. 9:00 AM Head to Nikko on the new limited express train “Revaty” Travel to Tōbu Nikkō Station from TOBU SKYTREE Line Asakusa Station which is near Senso-ji Temple.     TOBU RAILWAY CO., LTD. ANNUAL REPORT 2017 Profile The Tobu Group consists of TOBU RAILWAY CO., LTD. and its subsidiaries and affiliates. The core business of the parent company founded in 1897 is operating a network of private railway lines that extends across Tokyo, Chiba, Saitama, Tochigi, and Gunma prefectures of the Kanto region. The main lines, which originate in Asakusa, eastern Tokyo, extend to Saitama, Tochigi, Gunma, and Chiba prefectures, including the trunk lines (the TOBU SKYTREE Line (Isesaki Line), Nikko Line, and the TOBU URBAN PARK Line (Noda Line)) and branch lines. They can be broadly divided into the TOBU SKYTREE Line (the southern portion of the Isesaki Line) and the TOBU URBAN PARK Line (Noda Line), which primarily serve commuters and students, and the Nikko Line and northern portion of the Isesaki Line that primarily serve tourists and businesses. The Tojo Line mainly carries commuters and students. Development in areas along the line has been proceeding smoothly. Tobu Railway’s network has a total operating length of 463.3 kilometers. The Company manages 206 stations, and its average daily passenger count is 2.49 million. Tobu Group companies, which operate in five broad industrial sectors — transportation, leisure, real estate, retail distribution and other — continue to grow in concert with the region. In the areas along the Tobu Railway lines that cut across Tokyo and four neighboring prefectures, special illumination events that are limited to the winter season will be held starting in late October to March next year. The illumination events include “Ashikaga Flower Park Flower Fantasy – A Light Flower Garden” which is recognized as a Japan night view heritage site and one of the “Three Great Kanto Illuminations,” “Tobu World Square Illumination” which presents a simultaneous light-up of world-famous buildings and World Heritage Sites that have been reproduced on a scale of 1/25, “Tobu Zoo Winter Illumination 2016-2017” in Saitama where the entire park is decorated with lights and parades by animals will be held, and “TOKYO SKYTREE TOWN Dream Christmas 2016” in Tokyo where TOKYO SKYTREE - the world’s tallest tower in the Guinness World RecordsTM - will be lighted up for a limited time only. Furthermore, there is the “2016 SENDAI PAGEANT OF STARLIGHT” which will be held near “Sendai Kokusai Hotel” in Sendai City, Miyagi which is operated by the Tobu Group. This is one of the prominent illumination events in Japan where rows of zelkova trees in Sendai - the City of Trees - are completely covered in lights. “Ashikaga Flower Park Flower Fantasy – A Light Flower Garden” - Biggest illumination event in Kanto area with 3.5 million lights.
