C. 20017 1967 INTRODUCTION The compilers of this Swahili-English dictionary, the first new lexical work for English speakers in many years, hope that they are offering to students and translators a more reliable and certainly a more up-to-date working tool than any previously available. They trust that it will prove to be of value to libraries, researchers, scholars, and governmental and commercial agencies alike, whose in- terests and concerns will benefit from a better understanding and closer communication with peoples of Africa. The Swahili language (Kisuiahili) is a Bantu language spoken by perhaps as many as forty mil- lion people throughout a large part of East and Central Africa. It is, however, a native or 'first' lan- guage only in a nnitp restricted area consisting of the islands of Zanzibar and Pemba and the oppo- site coast, roughly from Dar es Salaam to Mombasa, Outside this relatively small territory, elsewhere in Kenya, in Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika), Copyright © 1968 and to a lesser degree in Uganda, in the Republic of the Congo, and in other fringe regions hard to delimit, Swahili is a lingua franca of long standing, a 'second' (or 'third' or 'fourth') language enjoy- ing a reasonably well accepted status as a supra-tribal or supra-regional medium of communication. EDITORIAL Vera është stina më e dashur për shumicën e njerëzve në HI-TECH mbarë botën. Ajo është sinonim i pushimeve dhe kohës së lirë për nxënësit e të gjitha moshave. Kjo është periudha kur ata i kanë dy muaj pushim. Si e tillë vera është periudha e eksplorimit, ndonëse nuk është e nevojshme që të udhëtohet shumë larg për të zbuluar shumë. Vera është edhe periudha më e shëndetshme e vitit, kur njerëzit hanë më pak dhe më mirë se zakonisht, kur ushtrojnë më shumë dhe kanë më shumë kohë për ta bërë këtë. Nivelet e çdo gjëje duke filluar 23 nga sëmundjet e zemrës e deri tek krimet zvogëlohen në këtë periudhë të vitit. Ngrohtësia e verës, drita dhe liria e saj e bëjnë atë stinën më të gëzueshme. Në shumë mënyra – falë festivaleve, sporteve dhe mundësive për pushime – vera i ka të gjitha përparësitë që u mungojnë stinëve të tjera. Asnjë MBRETËRIA E këngëtar nuk arritur që të shkruajë një këngë hit për fillimin e vitit shkollor siç e kanë bërë për fundin e tij. KAFSHËVE Prapë se prapë, vera nganjëherë në mënyrë të çuditshme krijon përshtypjen sikur nuk arrin të garojë me stinët e tjera për kapjen e imagjinatës. Dimri shpesh ka më shumë dramë Kopertina: se sa vera. Pranvera gjeneron më shumë optimizëm. Vjeshta KALEO në mënyrë të natyrshme përshtatet me meditimin për vitet që kanë kaluar. Nuk është e vërtetë se verës i mungon drama, MOVIEMANIA optimizmi apo meditimi. Pak gjëra janë më mbresëlënëse 18 se një ditë e gjatë vere. Asgjë nuk duket më jetëgjatë se një peizazh përplot me vapë. -

Through application of the boundary-making framework to integration and intermarriage, this study looks at the processes by which partners in mixed unions deal with socially constructed boundaries inside and outside the couple and family sphere. The thesis is based on multiple qualitative methods, but primarily on in-depth interviews with 61 Albanian-Italian/Romanian couples in Italy. -
