ROMANIA Irina Vainovski-Mihai1 1 Muslim Populations The first Muslim communities in Romania were formed (mainly in north- ern Dobrudja and along the lower Danube) in the fourteenth century when Ottoman rule was established in the region. Dobrudja remained part of the Ottoman Empire for five centuries. After the Russian- Romanian- Ottoman War (1877), Romania gained its independence and the Treaty of Berlin (1878) acknowledged Dobrudja as part of Romanian territory. As a result of the economic and political conditions in the early twentieth century, Turks and Tatars migrated massively from Dobrudja to Turkey. While the census of 1879 recorded Muslims as representing 56% of the population in the Dobrudjan county of Constantza, the census of 1909 indicates that the percentage had dropped to 10.8%.2 Since its establish- ment as an independent state, the Constitutions of Romania and special laws have guaranteed the rights of certain religious groups, in addition to Orthodox Christians who represent the majority of the population. The law on religious denominations adopted in 1923 lists the Muslim faith among the recognised ‘historical faiths’.3 The establishment of the Com- munist regime (1948) introduced many formal changes with regard to the recognition of religious denominations, but put them under strict state control. Between 1948 and 1989, the Communist state acted systematically to impose atheism and limit the impact of religious creeds on society. 1 Irina Vainovski-Mihai is Associate Professor in Arabic Literature at Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University, Bucharest. She holds a degree in Arabic language and literature and a Ph.D. in Philology. She has published studies in Arab literature, comparative literature and intercultural stereotyping.

  • The Evolution of the Turnover and of the Gross Profit Recorded by Economic Agents in the Main Towns of Constanta County, Between 2016 and 2017
“Ovidius” University Annals, Economic Sciences Series Volume XVIII, Issue 2 /2018 The Evolution of the Turnover and of the Gross Profit Recorded by Economic Agents in the Main Towns of Constanta County, between 2016 and 2017 Jugănaru Mariana “Ovidius” University of Constanta, Faculty of Economic Sciences [email protected] Abstract Any company is concerned about the size and evolution of its activity in order to take the right decisions on the future orientation of its activity, in correlation with the evolution of the external environment, where it exists and operates. Based on this approach, economic operators calculate different economic indicators, according to the requirements of the national legislation and European directives, whereby they express the volume and in some cases the structure of their economic activity. This study analyzes the size and dynamics of the activity carried out by the economic agents that operated in the main towns of Constanta County, in 2016 and 2017. This study is particularly important because, by processing a database containing values of several microeconomic indicators, we obtained a dynamic analysis on the evolution of the main economic performances of the companies that operate in the towns of Constanta county, during 2016 – 2017. Key words: turnover, gross profit, evolution, towns, analyze J.E.L. classification: C01, C10,C40, M10, M20, M21, O11, O12 1. Introduction The study aims to draw attention to the fact that a statistical database on the size of some economic indicators in the years 2016 and 2017, processed with quantitative statistical methods, can provide as a result both quantitative information about the size and the evolution of the economic activity, as well as comparative interpretations only between the cities from Constanta County.

Translator: Allen E. The Third Period of Immigration 1890-1891 A new series of German colony establishments started in 1890. A strong movement to emigrate went through the South Russian villages again, but stronger than all the earlier ones. The policy of the Russian government, which had already led to the destruction of the old privileges of German immigrants at the beginning of the 1870s, had expanded even more in the same direction. Nationalist streams had come to life in Russia and had an influence; they threatened more and more the national life of the German colonists and spoiled their stay in the Tsar empires. I was informed by various individuals that had come to Dobrudscha at that time that the main reason for their withdrawal from Russia was a new law issued in 1890 that all “Passport holders,” that is, those who still had a foreign passport, who had not yet become Russian subjects, were not only prohibited from acquiring an estate and land, but especially also “to cultivate and sow” on Russian soil.

  • Lekes, Reservoirs and Ponds, No 1-2: 15-26, December 2008
Lakes, reservoirs and ponds, vol. 1-2: 49-60, December 2008 ©Romanian Limnogeographical Association THE ECOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE ROMANIAN LITTORAL LAKES – THE SECTOR MIDIA CAPE - VAMA VECHE Gheorghe ROMANESCU Faculty of Geography and Geology, Department of Geography Iasi, România [email protected] Abstract In the present study we have taken into account only the lakes between Midia cape and Vama Veche, and only those that have directly communicated with the sea. As origin, the littoral lakes from the south-eastern part of the Black Sea are of three categories: fluvio- marine (Corbu - Gargalâc, Taşaul, Tăbăcariei, Agigea, Techirghiol, Costineşti, Tatlageac, Mangalia); lagoons (Siutghiol, Comorova, Hergheliei - Mangaliei Moor); man-made (Belona, partially Costineşti, the three lakes of the Comorova complex and Hergheliei). The littoral lakes, due to their geographical position and to the climatic conditions of the area, are subject to water salinization processes. In the last period, as a consequence of the economical activities specific to agriculture, the freshwater input has been supplemented, and thus it begins to be felt a strong phenomenon of water freshening. The phenomenon must be stopped in the case of the lakes that accumulate therapeutically mud (Agigea, Techirghiol). In the case of the other lakes the water may be used, where is needed, in irrigations (Corbu -Gargalâc, Tasaul etc.) or for fish hatching (Corbu -Gargâlc, Taşaul, Tatlageac, Mangaliei). In the case of the lakes created for recreation, the water's salinity degree is not so important (Belona, Costineşti, Neptun, Jupiter, Tismana, Venus). Keywords: lake, the physico-chemical properties, littoral, Blak Sea. 1. INTRODUCTION For the present study we have taken into analysis the physico-chemical properties of the littoral lakes between Midia Cape and Vama Veche.
