Braam, Delft University of Technology (Committee member) Ir. F. van der Ziel, Royal HaskoningDHV (Daily supervisor) Preface This document includes the Master of Sciene Thesis (MSc. Thesis) at Delft University of Technology, faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience. After an orientation at different companies I have chosen to do an graduation internship at Royal HaskoningDHV at their office in Nijmegen. Royal HaskoningDHV is one of the worldwide leading engineering firms in hydraulic engineering, with a lot of expertise on many different areas of engineering. Despite of the possibilities for international MSc. Thesis subject, I have chosen a topic concerning the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier. One of Holland’s pride in Hydraulic Engineering and well know all over the world. This graduation topic gives me the opportunity to contribute to the future of the Eastern Scheldt storm surge barrier. A storm surge barrier which is globally well known but close enough for a visit by car.
