    LIZ MITCHELL OF BONEY M. BONEY M. was not only THE disco cult band of the 70's and 80's but remains a living legend of the entire disco era. Originally founded in Germany by writer and producer Frank Farian, BONEY M. was one of the disco-oriented pop acts which dominated the European charts throughout the late seventies and early eighties with a string of hits well remembered to this day. Farian moulded the four piece band in the dance pop fashion, featuring the stunning vocals of LIZ MITCHELL, which proved irresistible to radio, dancefloor and partygoers.     Language & Ecology 2016 www.ecoling.net/articles Ecolyrics in Pop Music: A Review of Two Nature Songs Amir Ghorbanpour [email protected] Ph.D. Student, Department of Linguistics Tarbiat Modarres University, Tehran, Iran Abstract This paper is an ecolinguistic analysis of the lyrics of two nature songs – coined in this paper as ‘eco-lyrics’. The aim was to analyse the underlying stories that lie behind the lyrics, and how they model the natural world. The two songs chosen were We Kill the World by Boney M. (1981) and Johnny Wanna Live by Sandra (1990). In particular, the use of metaphors and appraisal patterns in Boney M.’s song and the use of salience patterns (through personification, naming and activation) in Sandra’s – in terms of Stibbe’s (2015) general classification of the ‘stories we live by’ – were looked at, in order to shed light on how the more-than-human world is represented in each of these songs. Introduction The relatively new discipline of ecolinguistics, as the name implies, aims at studying the interrelationship between language and ecology. In his speech at the AILA (International Association of Applied Linguistics) conference in 1990, Halliday stressed ‘the connection between language on the one hand, and growthism, classism and speciesism on the other, admonishing applied linguists not to ignore the role of their object of study in the growth of environmental problems’ (Fill, 1998: 43).

    February 10, 2015 Across light years Boney M and Maizie Williams Rest In Vinyl… close to three decades, that‟s what Boney M‟s music has meant to me. A dusty LP sheathed in a jacket crowded with three women and a man in tight silver suits with bell bottoms and huge Afro hair-dos. One made a concession at Christmas though, but then one always makes concessions at Christmas… the band‟s pop-disco version of the carol „Mary‟s Boy Child‟ played across stores and in our hearts. You never admitted you listened to Boney M but you did admit that they were an inevitable part of your growing-up years — when the afternoons were long, the music deep and the sound poured in through slatted windows. Boney M were the poster people for all those in search of an identity in the 1970s, although you really couldn‟t put a finger on who they were. Named after a half-Aboriginal detective in an Australian TV series and put together by German singer- songwriter Frank Farian, the band had the ragged-voiced Bobby Farrell from Aruba, model- turned-singer Maizie Williams from Montserrat, Jamaicans Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell. Between 1976 and 1982, Boney M ruled the airwaves across Asia, Europe and Latin America with their disco-glitter songs so iconically different from one another. And so, they traversed from the „Rivers of Babylon‟ to the heart of Tsarist Russia with „Rasputin‟, from the sectarian violence in „Belfast‟ to the core of a Hermann Hesse novel with „He Was A Steppenwolf‟.

He has always been kind to me (everytime I've sent him an email, he has answered it). When I have a question about Luv' or the Dutch music scene, I know I can ask him. He's a real music encyclopedia. His career is special. He's a professional singer and his artist name is Dennis Jones . Twenty years ago, he won a TV casting show on Veronica (a famous Dutch channel) and he scored four hits in the singles charts in the Netherlands ( Don't Wanna Give Up (peak position: #31 in 1988), Heart Of Gold (#32 in 1991), Ma Belle Amie (#36 in 2005) and African Baby (#62 in 2006). His discs have been recorded, produced and mixed by the " crême de la crême " of the studio musicians, top producers and sound engineers in the Netherlands. He has also made a lot of live performances and has worked as a background singer for famous Dutch stars ( André Hazes , Bonnie St.Claire ...). He has worked in a record company ( EMI ) to promote famous acts and runs the Liz Mitchell fanclub ( Liz is Boney M 's lead singer and a good friend of him). Two years ago, he performed at José 's fan club day in Oirschot. Last week I've decided to make an interview with him because I think he's a interesting person.
