I trace parallel developments in the production and reception of silent crime and adventure film in Brazil's First Republic and in revolutionary and post-revolutionary Mexico, at a moment when industrialization and urbanization were reshaping daily experience without eliminating profound social inequalities. Re-evaluating critical frameworks premised on cinema’s relationship to the experience of modernity in the industrialized U.S. and Western Europe, I argue that these early twentieth-century cultures of popular sensationalism signal the degree to which public life in Mexico and Brazil has been conditioned by violence and social exclusion linked to legacies of neo-colonial power. -

4.2 On the Political Economy of the Contemporary (Superhero) Blockbuster Series BY FELIX BRINKER A decade and a half into cinema’s second century, Hollywood’s top-of-the- line products—the special effects-heavy, PG-13 (or less) rated, big-budget blockbuster movies that dominate the summer and holiday seasons— attest to the renewed centrality of serialization practices in contemporary film production. At the time of writing, all entries of 2014’s top ten of the highest-grossing films for the American domestic market are serial in one way or another: four are superhero movies (Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro), three are entries in ongoing film series (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, 22 Jump Street), one is a franchise reboot (Godzilla), one a live- action “reimagining” of an animated movie (Maleficent), and one a movie spin-off of an existing entertainment franchise (The Lego Movie) (“2014 Domestic”). Sequels, prequels, adaptations, and reboots of established film series seem to enjoy an oft-lamented but indisputable popularity, if box-office grosses are any indication.[1] While original content has not disappeared from theaters, the major studios’ release rosters are Felix Brinker nowadays built around a handful of increasingly expensive, immensely profitable “tentpole” movies that repeat and vary the elements of a preceding source text in order to tell them again, but differently (Balio 25-33; Eco, “Innovation” 167; Kelleter, “Einführung” 27). Furthermore, as part of transmedial entertainment franchises that expand beyond cinema, the films listed above are indicative of contemporary cinema’s repositioning vis-à-vis other media, and they function in conjunction with a variety of related serial texts from other medial contexts rather than on their own—by connecting to superhero comic books, live-action and animated television programming, or digital games, for example. -

BAB II TINJAUAN PUSTAKA 2.1 Penelitian Sebelumnya Sejauh ini penelitian yang mengangkat representasi idola pada film Shingeki no Kyojin belum ditemukan oleh penulis. Namun pada saat penelitian ini berlangsung terdapat dua penelitian yang mengangkat tema film Shingeki no Kyojin. Selain film animasi Shingeki no Kyojin, terdapat juga penelitian yang membahas mengenai film animasi Jepang lainnya yang berasal dari satu universitas yang sama dengan penulis. Penelitian tersebut dapat dijadikan rujukan atau pembanding untuk memperjelas kedudukan dari penelitian ini, dan menghindari adanya penelitian yang serupa atau plagiasi. BAB IV PENUTUP A. KESIMPULAN 1. Interaksi yang terjadi di dalam Komunitas Tokusatsu Yogyakarta tidak akan dapat berlangsung tanpa melibatkan komponen – komponen komunikasinya, seperti pengirim pesan; konten pesannya; saluran pesan; penerima pesan; umpan balik yang dihasilkan; dan juga bauran pengalaman yang dimiliki oleh para pelaku komunikasinya. 2. Peran yang muncul dalam kelompok untuk membentuk sebuah konsep pengetahuan produk (product knowledge) terjadi di dalam interaksi tatap muka dan melibatkan komponen – komponen komunikasinya secara keseluruhan. Berbagai peran yang muncul untuk membentuk pengetahuan produk tersebut antara lain peran tugas (task roles) dan peran pemeliharaan (maintenance roles). Peran Tugas yang muncul di dalam interaksi tatap muka antar anggota Komunitas Toksusatsu Yogyakarta antara lain : peran Pencarian Informasi (information seeking); pemberian informasi (information giving); pengembangan (elaborating); klarifikasi (clarifying); pemberian pendapat (opinion giving); dan juga evaluasi (evaluating). Sedangkan peran Pemeliharaan yang muncul di dalam interaksi tatap muka antar anggota Komunitas Toksusatsu Yogyakarta antara lain : peran Gatekeeping; dukungan (supporting); pelepas tegangan (tension relieving); dan juga mendramatisir (dramatizing) 220 3. Serial films were widely attended by American middle class adults and children during their sound era heyday, a period where messages regarding World War II were conveyed to audiences. During the years of 1941 and 1942 the superhero genre of serial film informed viewers that the Everyman could and should become a hero to defend their country. Two Republic Pictures releases, Adventures of Captain Marvel (1941) and Spy Smasher (1942), adapted comic book source material in order to impart the latter message. 4. Detectives, Traces, and Repetition in The Exploits of Elaine Abstract Chapter 4 focuses on a single serial, Pathe’s The Exploits of Elaine (1915), which substantiates film serials’ crime fiction heritage, and calls for a critical reflection of the ‘serial-queen melodrama’. The serial features numerous elements that became generic to film serials in later years, such as the detective, scientific gadgets, or the masked villain. It thus benefited from the success of crime fiction in the 1910s but lacked the narrative voice that untangles the mystery. Drawing on Walter Benjamin’s introduction of the detective as a counterpart to the flâneur, the chapter proposes that viewers themselves become detectives as they connect tangentially related anecdotes and identify the mechanics of both the mystery and the narrative, engaging in ‘operational detection’—a mode of film viewing that informs both silent- and sound-era serials. (Poe 1841b: 500) Although The Exploits of Elaine (Pathe, 1915) is often listed as another example of the serial-queen melodrama genre—an association that is based on its alliterated title and Pearl White’s lead role—the serial also, or perhaps first and foremost, adapts popular detective fiction. -
