[email protected]. RESUMEN Las Asteráceas incluyen gran cantidad de especies útiles (medicinales, agrícolas, industriales, etc.). Algunas han sido domesticadas y cultivadas desde la Antigüedad y otras conforman vastas extensiones de vegetación natural, determinando la fisonomía de numerosos paisajes. Su uso etnobotánico ha ayudado a sustentar numerosos pueblos. Hoy, unos 40 géneros de Asteráceas son relevantes en alimentación humana y animal, fuentes de aceites fijos, aceites esenciales, forraje, miel y polen, edulcorantes, especias, colorantes, insecticidas, caucho, madera, leña o celulosa. -

We aim to explore different sources of data to clarify species delimitation in this complex of Kaunia. Morphological variation and environmental data of the species of the complex were assessed by using multivariate morphometric analy- ses. We performed a species distribution modelling approach applying BIOMOD2. Morphological quantitative traits allowed discrimination of some species in the complex. These Kaunia spp. have statistically different potential distri- butions, although some similarities between species in terms of climatic space were found. -

We present analyses that focus principally on FOREST ECOLOGY DRYFLOR sites in deciduous dry forest vegeta- tion growing under the precipitation regime out- lined above (5–7), as measured using climate Plant diversity patterns in data from Hijmans et al.(12). We excluded most Brazilian sites in the DRYFLOR database with vegetation classified as “semi-deciduous” because neotropical dry forests and these have a less severe dry season and a massive contribution of both the Amazonian and Atlantic their conservation implications rain forest floras (11). A better understanding of people’s knowledge and valuation of woody species can help to adjust actor-oriented agroforestry systems. In this case study, carried out in a peasant community of the Bolivian Andes, we aimed at calculating the cultural importance of selected agroforestry species, and at analysing the intracultural variation in the cultural importance and knowledge of plants according to peasants’ sex, age, and migration. Methods: Data collection was based on semi-structured interviews and freelisting exercises. Two ethnobotanical indices (Composite Salience, Cultural Importance) were used for calculating the cultural importance of plants. Intracultural variation in the cultural importance and knowledge of plants was detected by using linear and generalised linear (mixed) models. This is contraryto the previoushypothesis that the higherchromosome numbers n = 16-19 werederived from n = 10 by polyploidizationfollowed by dysploidloss. Cytologicaldata supplementand are consistentwith the following conclusionspredicted from molecular phylogenetical and biochemicaldata: (1) The ultimatebase numberof Eupatorieae is 17, and thelower numbers are derivedby successivedysploid reductions; (2) A reductionin chromosomaland total karyotypiclength accompanied by evolutionaryadvancement has been revealedfor some generaand species within this tribe;(3) A high base numberof x = 17 in Eupatorieaeis consideredto be deriveddirectly from one of the membersof Heliantheaewith n = 17 to 19. -
