[email protected]. RESUMEN Las Asteráceas incluyen gran cantidad de especies útiles (medicinales, agrícolas, industriales, etc.). Algunas han sido domesticadas y cultivadas desde la Antigüedad y otras conforman vastas extensiones de vegetación natural, determinando la fisonomía de numerosos paisajes. Su uso etnobotánico ha ayudado a sustentar numerosos pueblos. Hoy, unos 40 géneros de Asteráceas son relevantes en alimentación humana y animal, fuentes de aceites fijos, aceites esenciales, forraje, miel y polen, edulcorantes, especias, colorantes, insecticidas, caucho, madera, leña o celulosa. -

We aim to explore different sources of data to clarify species delimitation in this complex of Kaunia. Morphological variation and environmental data of the species of the complex were assessed by using multivariate morphometric analy- ses. We performed a species distribution modelling approach applying BIOMOD2. Morphological quantitative traits allowed discrimination of some species in the complex. These Kaunia spp. have statistically different potential distri- butions, although some similarities between species in terms of climatic space were found. -

Kirchoff Premise of research. Glands on the styles of Asteraceae are uncommon. They are reported in Kaunia for the first time. Glandular trichomes of plants are involved in the synthesis of secondary metabolites. In Kaunia, secondary compounds with medicinal cytotoxic, antitumor activity, and sensitizing capacity were previously identified. In this frame, a deeper knowledge of glandular trichomes could shed light on the productivity of medicinal substances in Kaunia. The potential taxonomic and ecological value of stylar glandular trichomes in Kaunia is also explored together with trichome secretion phases throughout the floral developmental stages. Methodology. Herbarium specimens and flowers fixed in FAA of 10 species of Kaunia were analyzed. Flowers in different developmental stages were studied to observe the secretory phases of stylar trichomes. A histochemical test was carried out to detect sesquiterpene lactones on stylar glandular trichomes. Pivotal results. Glandular trichomes were detected on the ventral face of style branches in eight species of Kaunia in all floral stages analyzed. The stylar trichomes observed were mostly found in secretory or early post- secretory phases in the most immature floral stages. -

A better understanding of people’s knowledge and valuation of woody species can help to adjust actor-oriented agroforestry systems. In this case study, carried out in a peasant community of the Bolivian Andes, we aimed at calculating the cultural importance of selected agroforestry species, and at analysing the intracultural variation in the cultural importance and knowledge of plants according to peasants’ sex, age, and migration. Methods: Data collection was based on semi-structured interviews and freelisting exercises. Two ethnobotanical indices (Composite Salience, Cultural Importance) were used for calculating the cultural importance of plants. Intracultural variation in the cultural importance and knowledge of plants was detected by using linear and generalised linear (mixed) models. Agriculture Science Journal An overlooked naturalised plant from the highlands of Peninsular Malaysia: Ageratum houstonianum Miller (Asteraceae) By Ming Kai Tan 1*, Khairul Nizam Kamaruddin 2 & H.T.W. Tan 1 here are two species of Ageratum (Asteraceae) in Peninsular Malaysia. The more common species is Ageratum conyzoides L., which was in cultivation in Europe as far back as the late 1600s and had spread by the early 20th century throughout the Malay Archipelago as a weed. Often confused with it is the less common Ageratum houstonianum Mill. (Fig. 1), which is native to Mexico, Central America, and the West Indies. Since the 1820s, A. houstonianum has Figure 1. There are correctly named specimens from Peninsular Malaysia in the Singapore Botanic Gardens’ Herbarium (SING), Herbarium, Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum, National University of Singapore (SINU), and the Herbarium, Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (KEP). It is also recorded for Malaysia in the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) database based on specimens at Naturalis Biodiversity Center (NL) Botany collection, Leiden.
