Hitler's American Model
Hitler’s American Model The United States and the Making of Nazi Race Law James Q. Whitman Princeton University Press Princeton and Oxford 1 Introduction This jurisprudence would suit us perfectly, with a single exception. Over there they have in mind, practically speaking, only coloreds and half-coloreds, which includes mestizos and mulattoes; but the Jews, who are also of interest to us, are not reckoned among the coloreds. —Roland Freisler, June 5, 1934 On June 5, 1934, about a year and a half after Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of the Reich, the leading lawyers of Nazi Germany gathered at a meeting to plan what would become the Nuremberg Laws, the notorious anti-Jewish legislation of the Nazi race regime. The meeting was chaired by Franz Gürtner, the Reich Minister of Justice, and attended by officials who in the coming years would play central roles in the persecution of Germany’s Jews. Among those present was Bernhard Lösener, one of the principal draftsmen of the Nuremberg Laws; and the terrifying Roland Freisler, later President of the Nazi People’s Court and a man whose name has endured as a byword for twentieth-century judicial savagery. The meeting was an important one, and a stenographer was present to record a verbatim transcript, to be preserved by the ever-diligent Nazi bureaucracy as a record of a crucial moment in the creation of the new race regime. That transcript reveals the startling fact that is my point of departure in this study: the meeting involved detailed and lengthy discussions of the law of the United States. -

The ship was remarkable in that it was the first nuclear-powered merchant ship. It was constructed with funding from United States government agencies with the mission to prove that the US was committed to the proposition of using atomic power for peace and part of President Eisenhower's larger "Atoms for Peace" project. The sleek and modern design of the ship led to some maritime historians believing it was the prettiest merchant ship ever built. This china embodies both the mission of using nuclear power for peace while incorporating the design inclinations of the ship. -

A „BREMEN-Hatok” – Hogyan Adta Az Első Ameri- Kai Fricskát Hitlernek Egy Bajkeverő Banda?
Magát öt tengerész-társával együtt a hajóra kíváncsi turistának kiadva, Bailey feljutott a fedélzetre, s míg a kísérői a hajó legénységével dulakodtak, addig Bailey felmászott a lobogórúdra, hogy onnan szakítsa le a vallási-, politikai és rasszok szerinti hovatartozásuk miatt kiválasztott társadalmi csoportok náci üldözésének, a ma- gánélet legszélsőségesebb állami beavatkozásokkal történő traumatizáló eltorzításának1 jelképét. Előszó: Késő délután volt, a New yorki Hobokenben, ahol a német óceánjárókat üzemeltető társaságok az első világháború kitörése előtti utolsó, a transzóceáni személyhajózás hőskorának számító, évtizedben – a nagy óceánjárókat üzemeltető európai vállalat-kolosszusok sereghajtójaként – kikötési jogot szereztek és dokkokat építettek. A Nyugati 46. utca vonalában fekvő 86-os dokk mellett pihent a németek számára vesztes első világháborút követő erőteljes újjáéledés és a német technikai fejlődés robusztus szimbóluma, a hatalmas BREMEN óceánjáró, amelyen a hajó másnapi indulása előtti gálavacsorához készültek… I. Zoppola, Zoppolani and Migration to Western Canada: a Sample Study
5-gabriella:0Syrimis 6/4/12 6:26 PM Page 107 ZOPPOLA, ZOPPOLANI AND MIGRATION TO WESTERN CANADA: A SAMPLE STUDY GABRIELLA COLUSSI ARTHUR Summary : This paper investigates the departures and arrivals of a group of Zoppolani, Italians from the northeast of Italy who travelled through Ellis Island to British Columbia in search of work between 1906 and 1923. Zoppola is a municipality located in the center west of the autonomous Friuli Venezia-Giulia Region in northeast Italy, and it is approximately 90 km northwest of Friuli Venezia-Giulia’s capital city of Trieste. It was one of many northern Italian towns from which migrants to North America originated. However, little is known of the consider - able number of Zoppolani who left the area in the early 1900s and made their way to western Canada. This sample study examines the historical scholarship in the field, considers challenges posed by a variety of archival records and argues that an understanding of the local geography and history of both the comune of Zoppola and the province of British Columbia is essential to the overall interpretation of the emigrant histo - ry discussed. Introduction This study focusses on the departures and arrivals of a group of Zoppolani, 1 Italians from the northeast of Italy who, between 1906 and 1923 travelled through Ellis Island, the USA’s northeastern gate, to British Columbia, Canada’s western-most province, in search of work. Zoppola, located in the center west of the autonomous region of Friuli Venezia- Giulia in northeast Italy, is a municipality ( comune ) approximately 9 km east of the city of Pordenone and 90 km northwest of Friuli Venezia- Giulia’s capital city of Trieste. -
