The Santa Brunch chaired by Maryann Rea and her team remains a favorite event with record attendance. It continues to grow in popularity with parents, grandparents and especially our children. was a big hit that day and children delighted in visiting with him. Each child in attendance received a specially wrapped gift to their delight. Lots of pictures, wonderful brunch was prepared by Chef Nandi and served by our highly professional staff.

The Regional Pot Luck organized by Ann Skowronski had a great attendance with over 50 people enjoying the food they prepared. A large assortment of wonderful foods followed with a dessert table which seemed to be a mile long selection of many pastries, candies and much more. Hopefully some of our newer members will attend next year so as to treat other members to their particular culinary treats. Just two dollars per person was collected to defray portions of the cost. A bargain if ever you see one.

The Christmas Luncheon held on Tuesday, December 11 th was well attended by “regulars” with some new faces in the group who enjoyed Tripa, Salad, Pasta, Chicken, wonderful vegetables and featuring broiled lamb chops – a wonderful Culinary Extravaganza. If you missed 2018 luncheon please consider bringing your loyal employees to this super event. Hope to see you there.

Wrapping up our Christmas festivities was our annual SING-ALONG chaired by Helene LaRussa who did a fantastic job pleasing young and old alike. Past President Mary Galasso again headed the traditional reading of the NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS story along with a new book featuring SANTA’S UNDERWEAR which delighted a large group of children who participated loudly filled with anticipation of a visit from Santa. Many late letters to Santa were mailed in our special; North Pole mailbox and were promptly given to Santa for his elves to review upon his return to the North Pole. The Sing-A-Long also featured Rose Paulus and the terrific Amici Band. A beautiful, delicious buffet was enjoyed by all.

Vito Iafrate was born to Francesco and Antonia Iafrate in Koehler, New Mexico on January 14, 1923 and passed to Eternal Life on November 16, 2018. His loving wife Velia awaits him in heaven. He is survived by his loving daughter Antonietta, son-in-law Lou, beloved granddaughter Carla, sister Elena Iannazzi and many nieces and nephews that he adored.

When Vito was 2 years old, he left America with his Mother and siblings to return to his parent’s hometown of Arpino, Italy. He fought in World War II and at the age of 24, he came to Detroit joining his 2 older brothers. He began working for Ford Motor Company and then Gargaro Excavating. At the age of 26, he returned to Arpino to marry his beloved wife Velia (Mastroianni). They returned to Detroit to start their life together and went on to enjoy 68 years together.

Vito founded Italo Romano Cement Company and was joined in partnership and friendship by Frank Fortuna. Vito retired in 1989, proud of his 48 years of hard work.

Vito has been a devoted member of the Italian American Club of Livonia since the early 1990’s. He loved the Club and could be found there playing cards, bocce, enjoying pasta dinners and attending almost every activity the club offered.

Vito loved life. He was proud of his heritage and thankful for the opportunities the United States offered him. Our hearts are full of wonderful memories and joy of a life well lived. We will cherish these memories always. May He Rest in Peace.
