The Chairman welcomed Messrs Des McFarland, Noel McMullan and George Nobel to the meeting. Messrs McFarland, Mullan and Nobel presented Roads Service Report and answered questions from councillors.. The Chairman thanked the officials for their attendance. 4 REPORT OF DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & BUILDING CONTROL A copy of the above report had been previously circulated. The Committee adopted the report together with the following matters contained therein. 4.1 Environmental Health 4.1.1 Cookstown Healthy Lives Programme 2014/15 The Committee RECOMMENDED to approve the extension of Joint Funding to the value of £9,000 for the ‘Cookstown Healthy Lives Project’, as currently budgeted for . 4.1.2 Lafarge Tarmac, Cement & Lime Ltd Application for Variation of Waste Material to be used as Kiln Fuel The Committee RECOMMENDED that Council agrees to the proposals as per the Director of Environmental Health & Building Control report.

    Northern Ireland Assembly Elections: 2011 RESEARCH PAPER 11/42 18 May 2011 Elections on 5 May 2011 resulted in little change in the overall party composition of the Northern Ireland Assembly. The beautifully restored Ballybot House was the venue for the first of two Community Conferences in October. The Assembly, in partnership with the Confederation of Community Groups, provided a robust programme in Newry. Attendees from local community groups and agencies started the day with a whistle-stop tour of how the Assembly works. The broadcaster Eamonn Mallie hosted a Question and Answer William Irwin MLA session with 5 MLAs –Dominic Bradley, Mickey Brady, William Irwin, Danny Kennedy and Trevor Lunn. It was a rare opportunity to have 5 parties represented on a panel and the delegates wasted no time in asking some very tough questions. Some of the MLAs stayed to lend their expertise in chairing a session on presenting to a Committee before delegates gave their thoughts on how the Assembly can connect more effectively with its audiences. The Project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities Programme. The aims of the pack are to enable community and voluntary groups to better understand Community Planning, support them in their efforts to shape its design and implementation and to help them prepare for its introduction. The pack provides information on the current proposals for Community Planning and on how it operates in other countries. It also includes details of the new 11 District Council model, changes within the structures of the Health and Education Services and the structures for the delivery of a number of funding programmes. The contact details for urban and rural community development networks who provide advice and support to communities during this time of unique and unprecedented change are also provided. Our Supporting Communities in Community Planning Project is working with these networks to provide information for local community groups and to develop their capacity for engagement with Community Planning. We are also working with networks to develop models and examples of locally focused community plans.
