Campitello – 5 Day Ski Itinerary
Campitello – 5 Day Ski Itinerary Easy Medium Hard Day 1: The Local Fields - Grade: From either Campitello or Canazei ski lifts explore the local ski areas of Col Rodella (Campitello) and Belvedere (Canazei). Both fields offer intermediate terrain with a few steep sections that are easy to see. There are some wonderful long runs with the best being the run to the valley from the cable car at Col Rodella. You can ski to the village of Canazei from both fields. If you want to follow the sun, it is best to ski Col Rodella in the morning and Belvedere in the afternoon. Both ski areas are connected by a telecabine (lift numbers 155 and 105) and so access is easy. Highlights The skiing: From Belvedere make sure you ski down to the Pordoi pass and take the lift to Sass Pordoi for a spectacular view of the dolomites. Sass Pordoi featured in the film Cliff Hanger. You should not ski down from here – all of the runs from the top are off piste, unpatrolled and extremely dangerous. Take the cable car back down and ski. Eating: There are a number of great places to eat on the mountain. Our favourites are Tita Piaz and Ciampolin at Belvedere and Rifugio Des Alpes and Salei on Col Rodella. Stop before 1pm to beat the crowds – Italians religiously stop for lunch at this time. Apres Ski: The round bar at Des Alpes in the afternoon. If you're skiing back to Canazei, make sure you leave before the slopes close. Day 2: Ski Val Gardena - Grade: Val Gardena – the home of the world cup downhill piste is also an easy first tour from the Fassa Valley. -

Hold them cheap May who ne’er hung there 2 G.M. Hopkins (1844 - 1889) Nomination of the Dolomites for inscription on the World Natural Heritage List UNESCO THE TENTATIVE LIST AND THE NOMINATION OF THE DOLOMITES This Nomination Document is the answer to the Decision to defer the previous nomination of the Dolomites (2005) expressed by the World Heritage Commit- tee during the Thirty-first Session Christchurch, New Zealand (23 June – 2 July 2007). In detail, the World Heritage Committee having examined Documents WHC-07/31. COM/8B and WHC-07/31.COM/INF.8B.2, defers the examination of the nomina- tion of The Dolomites, Italy, to the World Heritage List on the basis of criteria (vii) and (viii). As outlined in the document licensed by the Word Heritage Committee at the end of the 29th session held in Durban, South Africa, in July 2005, Italy has proposed the Dolomites as one of the sites deserving consideration for a possible future nomination as a site of outstanding universal value. The request was included in annex 1 of the Tentative List dated march 31st 2005, whereas the denomination ‘Dolomites’ is defined in annex 2 “Tentative List Sub- mission in accordance with decision 27 Com 8a” and annex 3 (Properties ac- cepted as meeting the requirements for Tentative List), within the scope of the broader denomination ‘Alps’, which also includes a) Western Alps and c) Eastern Alps, under the category ‘Natural Sites’. -
TO a STEP from CLOUDS Arabba Is a Jewel in the Dolomites, a Small an Peaceful Village in the Heart of the Dolomites
ARABBA: TO A STEP FROM CLOUDS Arabba is a jewel in the Dolomites, a small an peaceful village in the heart of the Dolomites. Arabba or “Reba” in ladin, as it was called in the local Ladin language, is located in the heart of the Dolomites (1.600 m above sea level), and is surrounded by the magnificent Group of the Sella mountains (World Nature Heritage – UNESCO) at the foot of the Passo Pordoi and the Passo Campolongo. Arabba is part of the municipality of Livinallongo del Col di Lana, Fodom in Ladin (the traditional language) and Buchenstein in German, one of the municipalities which belongs to the 5 Ladin valleys. On the other side you can admire the queen of the Dolomites, the Marmolada Glacier, which with its 3.342 meters represents the highest point of the Dolomites. Moreover on the Marmolada Glacier we find the famous ski slope, long more than 12 km. Arabba is right at the centre of the famous Dolomiti Superski Ski Area, encircled by a breathtaking landscape. With 63 km of perfectly groomed slopes, Arabba boasts brand new lifts and is well linked to the other Ladin valleys around the Sella Group. In addition to this, Arabba is able to meet all your desires thanks to its first class skiing and tourist facilities. Arabba is the pearl of the Arabba – Marmolada Ski Area, and is well-known thanks to “Porta Vescovo” ski slopes, easily accessible from the Arabba town centre. From here, via the Passo Padon, it is very easy to reach the Queen of the Dolomites, the Marmolada. -
Sandman", 98Th Bomb Group, 345Th Bomb Squadron, Pilot Lt
The newphew of Uncle Pilot is in Italy. This story has its roots in 'Winter 1943. Only in May 2000 thanks to a witness Fodom / Livinallongo / Buchenstein I learned of the fall of an American four-engine bomber in Alta Badia, in the valley dell'Edelweiss, so called for the Refuge. The search begins Senior school, with repeated trips to Treviso, my city, in the fall that year I began to search. The first Elders were a bit 'secretive, but they offered me the following high availability. Thus emerged as a large group of witnesses of whom the most prominent and the oldest ever, 93 years, was Giarona Costamoling. Eventually I was able to record the stories consistent, generous and full of details for which are grateful to 35 men and women especially in Colfosco inhabitants. Incassai a single refusal. From the beginning I received a gift of the metal remains of the "U.S. bombing," a big by Paul Clara, but none could fully reveal its source. Floriano Alfreider even gave me part of a tire. One track, finally A first step in my research was provided by the verification performed willingly in the Book of the Dead by Clara Parish Corvara Don Alfonso. Was the discovery of 11 dead allies Crespena Lake on December 19, 1943. A Sunday. They were taken to the local cemetery for the burial which took place a few days later. No list of names or other data were recorded. The villagers remembered the slides used for the transportation and the poor condition of the bodies battered by a fire on board. -

The luminous limestone range is the result of geological transformation from ancient sea floor to mountaintop. The region is a landscape of grassy balconies perched above Alpine lakes, and Tyrolean hamlets nestled in lush valleys, crisscrossed by countless hiking and walking trails connecting villages, Alpine refuges, and cable cars. A Collection of Oribatid Mites (Acari, Oribatida) from the Sella Pass (Dolomites, South Tyrol, Italy)
Heinrich Schatz A collection of oribatid mites (Acari, Oribatida) from the Sella Pass (Dolomites, South Tyrol, Italy) Abstract Results from collections of oribatid mites in the alpine grassland of the Sella Pass (2220 m a.s.l.) are presented. Four samples were taken in different vegetation units (moss, grass and herbs, Silene cushion, Juniperus litter). A total of 34 species belonging to 19 families were found. Oribatella longispina, Trichoribates scilierensis are endemic Keywords: Acari, Oribatida, South in the Alps. Some faunistically remarkable species are presented, and their general Tyrol, Sella Pass, Dolomites, distribution and habitat requirements are pointed out. species list, faunistics Introduction The oribatid mite fauna of South Tyrol is relatively well known, mainly by numerous collectings in the course of biodiversity projects (SCHATZ 2016). At present almost 400 species are recorded from the country (Schatz in preparation), but most of them from lower elevations. Collectings at higher altitudes are comparatively inade- quate (SCHMÖLZER 1962, 1994, Mihelčič 1971, CHRISTANDL-PESKOLLER & JANETSCHEK 1976, SCHATZ 2006, 2008, FISCHER & SCHATZ 2007). In the course of an excursion into the Dolomites some soil and litter samples were taken in the alpine meadow on the Sella Pass. The Sella Pass (2220 m a.s.l.) is an important transition between the Val Gardena / Gröden (South Tyrol) and the Fassa Valley (Trentino). The pass is situated between the mountains of the Sella group in the East and the Langkofel group in the West near the upper limit of the timber line to the alpine grassland. Material and Methods Four samples were taken on the southern ridge above the mountain pass road (SS 242) in the alpine meadow (46°30’N, 11°46’E, 20.vi.2017, leg.
