Dear resident

What a few weeks it has been! On February 25th the people of Dublin Mid West voted to elect a new Government. It was a true honour to have been entrusted with this responsibility and I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported me.

This election, people were genuinely worried about the future of our country and many families were struggling to make ends meet. People were really engaging and that was reflected by the turn out rates locally. At such a tough time it was refreshing to see people turn to politics with such hope and trust. I gave a commitment on doors throughout our area that if elected to government I would do everything in my power to help get Ireland working again. This is a commitment I fully intend to uphold.

Upon my election I was honoured to be appointed by An Taosieach, Enda Kenny, to serve as Ireland’s first senior Minister for Children. It is a challenge I am relishing. I will, of course, continue to work hard on the ground throughout Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Newcastle, Saggart, Rathcoole and Brittas and I want to remind you that I am always available to constituents by phone, email or appointment. I look forward to repre- senting you in Dail Eireann, working hard on the ground locally on issues of importance to you and at Cabinet level in my Ministry and as part of the team that helps get Ireland back working. Here are just some of the issues I have been working on since my election;

CREATING a Department for Children I was honoured to be appointed as Ireland’s first ever Minister for Chil- dren. I am delighted with the opportunity to help create and develop this Department. I have been campaigning for a Children’s Referendum for the past number of years and look forward to delivering on this, working to resolve adoption issues, supporting youth services and childcare through- out communities across the country. Esker Celtic Over-35s soccer team are at the end of their first season in existence. Set up to provide a bit of a laugh (and a bit of much needed exercise!) for players who enjoy playing football and being involved with a Club but are too polite to play with younger player in case we show them up.

We'll be looking to arrange a series of friendly matches in June and August (need a break in July). If you're interested in joining the team, we're still looking for new players for next year. Ideally, we're looking for a Goalkeeper, a Striker and maybe one or two players in other positions. Skill and fitness aren't really the most important requirements but you should be prepared to give up every Saturday and one day in every midweek. Anyone who would rather go shopping on Satur- days and stay at home to watch every European game should avoid committing to the Club as we want players we can rely on.
