2021 J. Bryan Cooper Environmental Award—Congratulations Tallahassee Intl. Airport (TLH), recipient of the 2021 J. Bryan Cooper Environmental Award. This award, named after James Bryan Cooper, a founding member of the Environmental committee, formally of St. Augustine/St. Johns County Airport Authority, recognizes an FAC member commercial service and GA airport for promoting, implementing or undertaking projects and programs that have a positive environmental effect on the Florida aviation system. The award is sponsored by the Environmental Committee. TLH is recognized for the development of the world’s largest solar farm located on airport property. Great job, Mark Kistler, MBI, Thomas Vergo and David Pollard, TLH, Mariben Anderson, MBI and David Pollard and team! Heather Nelson, TLH

2021 Honorary Mark Winkelmann Blue Light Award— This award recognizes an airport employee who has demonstrated exemplary service, skill, and aptitude specifically in the field of airport facilities and maintenance. This award meant to honor an individual actively working in the field of airport maintenance and repairs. The recipient is evaluated based upon the tangible benefits received by the airport, the traveling public, or the aviation community in general as a direct result of the person’s efforts, their dedication and professionalism, and their innovative or pioneering spirit. This award is sponsored by the Facilities Committee. Congratulations John Merola, Sr. Fabricator, Lee County Port Authority!

FAC Members recognize Flight 2014, Facilities Committee Chair, Raymond Laroache, PGD “Worlds’ First Airline Monument” and John Merola Resolution 21-04 recognizes the contribution of the Flight 2014 project and the World’s First Airline Monument in St. Petersburg, Florida dedicated on February 6, 2021. Flight 2014 was organized to plan the celebrations for the centennial of the World’s First Airline launch on New Year’s Day 2014. Flight 2014 is composed of representatives from the Florida Aviation Historical Society, St. Petersburg Museum of History, the Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society, the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and other distinguished members.

After the 2014 Centennial, the group began to consider a fitting monument that would recognize the achievement more appropriately than the modest monument erected in 1938. It was decided to aim for a

10 AIRMAIL ‘21 IssueISSUE 21 21--080408 full-size stainless-steel replica of the first airliner, the Benoist Airboat. Over $1 million dollars was raised from a wide range of donors, including FAC, aviation enthusiasts and businesses. The City of St. Petersburg stepped forward and provided the site for the monument, the very same historic place from which the Benoist Airboat lifted off on its first flight in 1914. The World’s First Airline was the first step in a commercial innovation that revolutionized transportation and travel land truly Tom Jewsbury, PIE and Paul Piro, KHA, Lisa Waters, changed the world. The members of the Council and FAC CEO and Chairman Luis Olivero the Board of Directors congratulate Flight 2014 for this fantastic achievement.

Board of Directors votes to make several administrative changes

The Board of Directors met on Saturday, July 17th and is recommending some changes to FAC’s Constitution. Staff briefed the members at the Monday General Membership Meeting and will provide these changes in writing for an electronic vote in the coming weeks. Here’s a summary: Change of the Councils financial cycle from Fiscal Year to Calendar Year – the purpose of this change is to align more closely with accounting and budgeting for the Annual Conference, the Education & Training Summit, the State and Federal Legislative Fly-Ins and the Education Foundation, which is already on a calendar year budget cycle. • Article 4 – Officers - refers to the Board of Directors term of service. Currently, it references that Directors will serve for a “fiscal year”. A change is suggested that the Board of Directors will begin their service immediately following the Annual conference. Currently, we announce the new Board at the Annual Conference, and they begin their service at the beginning of the Fiscal Year, October 1st . This change would become effective following the 2022 Annual Meeting. In the event there is not an Annual Conference, there will be a “Virtual Membership Meeting”. In accordance with the By- Laws, this meeting will act as the Annual Conference and represent the time at which the newly Click title above to read full article presented Board of Directors take office July 31st, 2023. • Article 10 – Finances - specifically refers to the Council’s financial/budget cycle as Fiscal Year, Beginning October 1st and ending September 30th. This article would change to reference the Calendar Year, beginning January 1st and ending December 31st. • Article 15 – Amendments – requires a 14-day notice of any changes to the Constitution and requires that airport members be provided the opportunity to vote yes or no. A vote by three-fourths of a majority of airport members in the affirmative is required.

11

AIRMAIL ‘21 IssueISSUE 21 21-08-08 Change in committee leadership to coincide with the term of the Board of Directors – this is not codified in the Constitution or By-laws, however, the Board will also transition Committee Leadership to coincide with the Board of Directors term of office. FAC’s new digital advertising platform - the Board heard a presentation by representatives of Feathr, a digital marketing firm that specializes in work with non-profits and industry associations. Staff developed the priorities and goals below to guide the use of digital advertising, which will be closely tied to the updated FAC website. • Grow corporate membership and individuals at airports using FAC’s website • Retain corporate members past the 1-year timeframe by 85-90% • Make up for lost conference revenue due to the pandemic • Sell out conference sponsorships and increase conference digital presence • Increase Education Foundation donations • Increase webinar engagement and overall website traffic and awareness Firms or airports placing digital ads will benefit greatly by these changes and targeted ad campaigns. Advertisers will be provided data analytics to track website visitors that click on their ad and to develop leads. Stay tuned for the launch of this program, expected January 1, 2022.

FDOT Update...Aaron Smith and his team provided a timely update to the Adopted Aviation Work Program and a report on the status of key projects. This report is included in information posted on the FAC website, under the 52nd Annual Conference and Exposition banner.
