SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES

SOCIAL MEDIA DEFINED Social Media is a form of communication for social interaction that uses web-based and mobile technologies to turn communication into interactive dialogue, content-sharing, community-based input and collaboration. Social media leverages the power of human networks and is used as a tool to connect, communicate, and build relationships with others.

SCOPE This document provides guidelines for members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., who create and/or contribute to different social media platforms. Whether you create, log into, or comment to social media these guidelines are for you. We hope you’ll take a moment to read the following guidelines and follow them when contributing to different social media platforms.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. encourages the responsible use of social media as a means to communicate who we are, and what we do. The organization also encourages members to utilize social media to be an advocate for the organization, to connect and communicate with one another, and to share information. This can be done through different social media platforms.

While there are several social media platforms, this Social Media Guide will focus on four types:  Social Networking Sites   Video Sharing  Photo Sharing

Social Networking Sites — Focus on building relationships among people with similar interests and activities. Examples: , ,

Microblogging — Differs from traditional blogging because the content is delivered in short bursts of information. Example:

Video Sharing — Users can upload and comment on videos. Examples: YouTube, Vimeo

Photo Sharing — Users can upload and comment on photos. Some photo-sharing sites offer a user license agreement that allows bloggers and website owners to use images. Examples: Flickr, PhotoBucket

GOAL The goal of this document is to provide members of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., with guidelines on how to participate on Social Media in a respectful, relevant way that protects the organization’s , and follows the spirit of the law.

ENGAGEMENT Before engaging on any social networking sites, be sure to read the Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Policy and Procedures. In all interactions, don’t share confidential or private information about the organization’s business operations or its members.

ENGAGEMENT GUIDELINES OF SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES (Examples: Facebook, Instagram,

Myspace, Snapchat, )

 Don’t do anything that breaks the law.  Be polite and courteous, even if you disagree. Never resort to name calling, profanity, fighting words, discriminatory epithets, sexual harassment, cyberbullying, gruesome language or the like.  Stay on topic. Keep the conversation relevant to the community and contribute to the dialogue. Avoid off-topic, out of context, spam, promotional or links to third party sites.  Keep it real. All posts should come from a real person and a real Facebook or Instagram social media profile. Postings from fake or anonymous profiles will be deleted when discovered.

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. reserves the right to remove content posted to any Jack and Jill of America, Inc., social media profile Facebook or Instagram that violates these guidelines.

The internet can be a great source of communication, dissemination of information, and dialogue amongst diverse and geographically dispersed people. However, it can also be a place where anonymity provides an ample veil to those who choose to abuse it. As a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., it is every mother’s responsibility to use social media appropriately to protect the equity of the Jack and Jill of America, Inc., brand.

Here are guidelines that, if used appropriately by all mother members, can effectively protect the Jack and Jill of America, Inc., brand:

 Professionalism – the core values of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., that are applied in our chapters every day, should transfer directly to the use of social media. Just as the behaviors and actions of any mother member reflect on the whole Jack and Jill of America, Inc., organization, so does any social media posting by a Jack and Jill of America, Inc. mother member. While mother members are free to articulate their point of view on any issue, even a dissenting point of view, it should be done in a way that the tone and content is both respectful and appropriate.

 Content - Mother members have a wide range of talents, experiences, opinions and perspectives that is rich in quality and high in value. In addition, as we continue to pursue our mission of serving all children in our communities, and driving awareness of our activities and programming can be highly beneficial. All posted social media content, no matter the medium, should be appropriate in nature and free of any questionable content.

 Content or material that is sexual, violent, graphic or explicit nature is strictly prohibited.  Content that causes mass amounts of spam email messages to unwitting recipients is strictly prohibited.  Content that is explicitly against the law or the spirit of the law is strictly prohibited.  Content that denigrates or attacks the character of any individual or of any sets of individuals of a specific ethnic, religious, country, gender, sexual orientation, financial class or age is strictly prohibited.  Content that is restricted from publication due to copyright protection is strictly prohibited, unless permission has been granted by the author.  Content that is not-prohibited from publication, but contains inappropriate content of any kind is strictly prohibited.
