BODY & PAINT SHOP 504-278-1954 President McInnis declared a State of Emergency for the fishing industry back on June 10, 2019. Since then President McInnis and staff have continued talks and gathered data on the impacts the freshwater is having on the industry. McInnis has met with lo- cal fishermen and has pledged to continue to fight on their behalf. President McInnis stated, "We understand that there's a process that state and federal agencies must go through to collect data to help our industry, however, our fishermen and the industry are in need of emergency funding now." Along with meetings for emergency funding requests, McInnis and staff will discuss lower Mississippi River water management, future plans for diverting water from the river and the long term af- fects freshwater has on the fishing industry and estuaries. These issues will remain on the forefront on this administration’s legis- lative agenda as we move forward in 2019 and beyond. The wa- terways and bayous of Eastern St. Bernard Parish are not just an economic staple but a major part of St. Bernard’s rich culture. We will keep residents updated, as information becomes available.
