The UTC is unlikely to School Converters Existing surplus: 0.9% affect the long term viability of the school. Secondary schools with a high rating The assessment has concluded that the opening of UTC Swindon can expect to have a high impact on four schools; Swindon Academy, Nova Hreod, Churchfield Academy and Dorcan Technology College. All four schools have: • large existing number of surplus places; • a ‘satisfactory’ or ‘requires improvement’ Ofsted rating; and • attainment below the national level. In addition, the four schools’ curriculum offer overlaps with UTC Swindon’s curriculum offer to a large extent. The UTC will focus on the teaching of STEM subjects and its specialism is engineering with business and enterprise. Swindon Academy specialises in science with business and enterprise, and thus appears to have a curriculum offer which overlaps with UTC Swindon’s curriculum most. Both Nova 2 Hreod and Churchfields Academy specialise in science, maths and computing. Dorcan Technology College specialises in science, maths and technology so it too has a curriculum which partly overlaps with that of the UTC’s. It is worth noting that, Dorcan Technology College became an academy in 2011 and was recognised as one of the top 3% most improved schools by Department for Education in 2012. Although, it is hard to predict whether or not concentrations of students will move from any particular providers to the UTC, the above factors combined put these four schools at a higher general risk of losing pupils to a new provider. Colleges within the local area (ten mile radius) within a limit of the ten closest colleges Number of Proportion of Average Point College name learners aged 16- learners aged Score per Ofsted Impact Rating 18 16-18 student 2012 Swindon College 1898 49.1% 499 Satisfactory Minimal. I LEARN TERM 2 FOCUS: LITERACY Friday 6th November 2020 A message from the Headteacher: Our first week back after half term has been a busy one! I’m delighted that the Swindon Youth Literature Festival will be taking place virtually and here at LMA next week. As I said in my letter to all parents and carers yesterday, it is very much business as usual here at Lawn Manor throughout the national lockdown period and we would be delighted to celebrate any positive news stories of successes outside of school in our newsletter, please just contact year leaders or the admin office to let us know. Sandra Muir Headteacher Year 7 Artwork Year 7 art with Miss Townsend Year 7 have been developing their art skills, particularly using pen shading techniques to create bold designs. Over half term, pupils were asked to copy the work of an artist who uses these same techniques in their work. These are some of the amazing art pieces that were handed in. Well done! Here are a few tips from an NHS website regarding identifying head lice and how to get rid of them, which sometimes takes a few treatments. Head lice can make your head feel: • itchy • like something is moving in your hair The only way to be sure someone has head lice is by finding live lice.

It must also ensure there are sufficient schools in their area and promote diversity and parental choice. This School Organisation Plan brings together information from a range of sources and sets out the issues the Borough will face in meeting its statutory duties for providing school places up to 2013 and beyond. The Plan includes present and predicted future pupil numbers on roll, together with information about birth rates, school capacity, pupil mobility, pupil ethnicity and new housing. The Plan analyses changes in the number of school places available over the last year, and it suggests where other changes may be necessary in the future.
