Apart from a string of Australian classics, and a plethora of high-grade predecimal coins, Sale 331 is most notable for the presence of the majority of the banknote inventory of the late Peter Hill. As I am sure you will know, Peter was an invaluable member of the Australian numismatic community. A long-term ANDA member, and a man with a passion for world banknotes, Peter’s banknote holding was as diverse as it was immense. Comprising notes dating as far back as the 1890s, this important accumulation is also highlighted by the latest polymer and paper issues. With the market suffering a severe shortage of high- quality international banknotes in recent years, the appearance of Peter’s inventory will be welcomed by all collectors. Although headlined by this key banknote aggregation, Sale 331 is also defined by the diversity for which Downies’ auctions are well known. Highlighted by a 1930 Penny aVF, an Austro-Hungarian Empire Joseph I Shooting Gold Medal and a 1966 $10 Coombs/Wilson First Prefix Star Note, the auction also encompasses a stunning array of high-grade predecimal coins, as well as medals, RAM Proof and Mint Sets and a plethora of World Coins. I hope you enjoy Sale 331, and enjoy our new Live Auction Platform that proved such a hit in Sale 330. I would also like to remind you that, although preparations are well underway for Sale 332, commencing 20 August, it’s not too late to be part of the action. If you have material you would like to submit, please contact us on (03) 8677 8800. Enjoy your collecting!
