FERRIGNO U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY PROFESSIONAL PAPER 1386–J–1 The Rocky Mountains of Canada include four distinct ranges from the U.S. border to northern British Columbia: Border, Continental, Hart, and Muskwa Ranges. They cover about 170,000 km2, are about 150 km wide, and have an estimated glacierized area of 38,613 km2. Mount Robson, at 3,954 m, is the highest peak. Glaciers range in size from ice fields, with major outlet glaciers, to glacierets. Small mountain-type glaciers in cirques, niches, and ice aprons are scattered throughout the ranges. Sulphur / 8 Mile Stone’s Sheep Project A multi-stakeholder research and planning initiative in the Muskwa-Kechika Management Area, northern British Columbia Stone’s sheep population dynamics and habitat use in the Sulphur / 8 Mile oil and gas pre- tenure plan area, northern British Columbia, 2005 – 2010 Research Summary & Management Considerations, January 2012 Sulphur / 8 Mile Stone’s Sheep Project Research Summary & Management Considerations The Sulphur / 8 Mile Stone's Sheep Project is a multi-stakeholder research and planning initiative developed as a result of oil and gas pre-tenure plan requirements in the Muskwa - Kechika Management Area (M-KMA) of northern British Columbia. In the M-KMA, pre-tenure plans are required for areas with high oil and gas resource development potential. These plans define resource management direction and results-based requirements that become legally-binding upon oil and gas tenure proponents. The North Peace Stone’s Sheep Sustainability Steering Committee was established as an independent working group of industry, government, resource, and conservation sector representatives to address commitments made in the pre-tenure planning process. With support from a Science Advisory Committee, the Steering Committee was charged with developing a Stone’s sheep research program and providing management recommendations to the M-KMA Advisory Board and the BC Government. Since 2006, the research was managed and implemented by Synergy Applied Ecology (SAE), an independent firm working on behalf of the committees under multiple agreements with project funding partners. Local and traditional knowledge of Stone’s sheep ecology was compiled by Ross Peck and the Kaska Dene Institute. -

SCHEDULE 4 RECOMMENDED FORT NELSON LAND AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PLAN < > Recommended � I : Fort Nelson ! A Component of British Columbia's Land Use Strategy Land and Resource Management Plan a. � C( _J Fort Nelson EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Fort Nelson Land and Resource Management Plan (LRMP) is a full consensus recommendation on all aspects of land and resource management within a 98 000 square kilometre area built through participation by the public, local indusryt and government resource agencies. This Plan results in no anticipatedjob losses, stability for all resource-based industries such as tourism, oil and gas, mining and timber; seven proposed protected areas; a recommendation for a planning framework to provide co-operative and co-ordinated planning management in the Muskwa-Kechika; and an improved outlook for recreational activities and wildlife. The FortNelson Land and Resource Management Plan (LRMP) recommendations have been built over a four year time-frame by a core group of30 people. This group consisted of a solid cross section of public participants with local, regional and provincial interests, and agency staff, representing a wide range of values including access, agriculture, biodiversity, energy, forestry, guide outfitting, minerals, outdoor recreation and tourism, soil, transportation and utility corridors, trapping, visual quality, water and wildlife. The LRMP table worked with an "open-door" policy, using sectorbased negotiations. Local First Nations expressed aninterest inthe process, but chose not to participate. This was in part due to concerns that participation may compromise treaty negotiations, in addition to staffing andresource constraints. They were apprised of the LRMP progress through personal contacts, formal communications and the LRMPupdate packages, which were widely distributed. -

H. McLearn. The results of McLearn 1 s work have been published in many p apers and were summarized in 1953 (McLearn, 1953) L. During the past 7 years many new collections have been obtained, both by members of the Geological Survey-R.B. Campbell, L. H. Green, P. Harker, E.J.W. Irish, J.A. Jeletzky, E.IV. Mountjoy, J.E. Muller, D.K. Norris, B.R. Pelletier, J.G. Souther, H.W. Tipper, and the writer -and by geologists of oil companies; officials of Shell Oil Company, Triad Oil Company, and Imperial Oil Limited have kindly made collections available for examination. Some additions to our knowledge of the Triassic fauna! sequence have resulted from the study of these collections, and it is the principal object of this pape r to record these discoveries in a preliminary fashion. -

GEOLOGY OF THE RACING RIVER AREA, BRITISH COLUMBIA by JOHN RANDOLPH VAIL B.Sc, Rhodes University, 1952 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE in the Department of Geology and Geography We accept this thesis as conforming to the standard required from candidates for the degree of MASTER OF SCIENCE Members of the Department of THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA April, 1957 i ABSTRACT The Racing River area is situated near the northern end of the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia about sixty miles south of the Yukon border. The Alaska Highway passes through the map area from mile 370 to mile 460. The area covered is about two thousand square miles. Rocks exposed in the map area range in age from Late Precambrian to Upper Cretaceous, and except for thin basic dykes which cut the basement rocks, are made up entire• ly of sedimentary sequences. Fourteen formations have been recognized, using earlier work by M.Y. Williams (1944) and Laudon and Chronic (1949) as a basis for the subdivisions. Units mapped are essentially rock units and do not always coincide with the Formations. The area includes the physiographic provinces of the Rocky Mountain Foothills Belt, and the Rocky Mountains proper. Topography is closely related to the underlying structures, which are comprised essentially of large thrust sheets overriding each other from the west; the planes of the faults dip towards the west at varying angles. Except close to the thrust faults, the strata in general are remarkably ii unfolded. Secondary tension fractures have developed, often along pre-existing dykes, and quartz and carbonate material has been introduced.
