The Patchway Watercolourists meet each Tuesday and Friday afternoon between 2pm and 4.30pm, upstairs at the Coniston Centre which is located on Coniston Road

Our group is friendly and supportive, a wide range of styles and abilities exist, (no experience necessary - just an interest in watercolour painting). It costs £4 each session, and new people can use materials supplied by the tutor. Roma also buys paper in bulk to re-sell at cost price of 50p a sheet. We are open all year, apart from Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays, and two weeks in August.

The Watercolourists' tackle a different project each session and enjoy a chat and refreshments. Roma the tutor gives direction, but artists can choose their own activity if they wish. Recent projects include: Waterlogged! - Flooding in Somerset, Captivating Cottages, Inspiring World - Iconic views in a world landscape, and Castles and Skeletal Winter Scenes.

During the past year the group has exhibited in Patchway Library in the early part of last year, taken part in the Over Fifty Festival Art Competition and Exhibition organised by the City Council by showing art in the café at the City Library, shown work at the Flower Show, and held two Water- colour Christmas Parties; one for each group.

Both groups regularly contribute to Brooks Café Gallery where paintings are exhibited in a six weekly rolling ex- hibition. Users of the café often comment favourably and notice this changing picture show.

Deborah Williams has recently been appointed as a Community Outreach Leader for St Chad's and Charlton Hayes. She is funded by the Diocese of Bristol for the next few years and is enthusiastic to get stuck in with the community in Charlton Hayes and Patchway. Her focus is mainly based around supporting the develop- ment of community in new housing areas as this has been identified as a major area for working within the Church of .

She will be responding to the community via regular consultation, conversation and general engagement by hosting and facilitating community events and projects.

Her initial ideas and projects include 'The Crafty Coffee Club' on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month, between 10am and 12pm, at The Fold Cafe in Patchway Community Centre on Rodway Road. She is also starting a placement in Callicroft Primary and can't wait to launch a Toddler Group, Bedtime Story Session, Dad's and Toddlers Session and a Messy Church at St Chad's.

Deborah is a full time employee and works 35 hours a week. She has not yet settled into a fixed working pattern as she is still establishing and responding to the needs of the community. This can be useful as it means she has a flexible approach to working around people when planning and hosting events and pro- jects.

If you have any ideas for community enhancing projects or events, please don't hesitate to get in touch with her! You can contact Deborah via email on [email protected] or via 0117 9679605.

Edible growth planters—adopt a planter The cultivate project has now finished but there are 4 planters around Charlton Hayes. It would be good to create a growing group that adopt each one of these planters. A new community development worker will be appointed soon so they might be able to support you with this. Just let me know which planter you would like to adopt! I do believe that someone has offered to look after the planter by Charlton Boulevard …...go on be brave and grow some lovely vegetables!

Sparowbill Play park (this is the park around Sparrowbill way and Chessel Drive). This is a lovely park and itis well used by families in Charlton Hayes. There are a few issues that seems to be ongoing and has been making life difficult for some of the residents. The first is that some people are walking their dogs inside the park despite the sign saying it’s a dog free zone. Please be considerate of the children who uses the park and keep your dogs out of the park area. The other issue is that dog owners are leaving their dog waste bag in the bins around the park, even when the bins are overfilled. Please do take your dog waste home.

Litter and bins left on pavements We’re back to the same issue around litter lying around and bins left on pavements! Please be considerate of others and do not leave your bins on the pavement making the pedestrian walkway a hazard! Litter—bin it please, do not overfill your bins and please do not drop litter—everyone can make small steps to ensure that their street is litter free.

Dog dirt ..yuck! Well the solution is simple, owners should clean up after their dogs…….when out walking your dog carry an extra plastic bag and offer it to any dog walker you see who does not have one.
