The new Seinäjoki city centre reaches towards space

SEINÄJOKI, THE CAPITAL OF SPACE, has a new city centre. There are more on-going and planned construction projects than ever before. Thanks to the increase in building height, the new constructions are reaching towards space and the number of residents will at least double from the current lev- el. The market place will return to its old home, and become a new meeting place for the people of Seinäjoki. The expansion of the station area will increase the centre’s commercial and residential area by dozens of hectares.

Behind all of this is the city strategy, where Seinäjoki City, Into Seinäjoki and the centre’s real estate owners and com- panies are committed to developing the centre.

A MASSIVE EXTENSION FOR TORIKESKUS

The expansion of Torikeskus shopping centre is one of Seinäjoki centre’s most substantial individual construction projects. The goal is close to 20,000 m² of new residential, commercial and service area on many floors. It would be pos- sible to locate the city’s social welfare and healthcare centre in the complex. The plans also include a roofed marketplace for shops and restaurants.

The aim is to get the zoning ready by the end of 2019, so that construction could start in spring 2020.

The goal is to be Finland’s best business park

ROVES IS ALREADY one of Finland’s most important business parks. The goal is that it becomes so popular, efficient and service providing, that it is on the map for all businesses that need new premises or industrial services in Finland.

- Those of us already operating here know that it is Finland’s best business park, but we want to tell everyone, glows Ossi Viljanen chairperson of the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, Seinäjoki.

Over 500 companies are already operating in the Roves area. After the construction of the Eastern By-pass, building in the Roves Seinäjoki area has gathered pace. There has already been €45 million of – the most functional, service-oriented and versatile construction investments besides the Rekkaväylä, which dis- sects the area, and 20 new plots of land have already been sold.

Attracting new companies is also going at a good speed. The city and Into Seinäjoki accelerate the area’s growth by selling plots of land and with various development activities. Technology companies are themselves in close co-operation as TechTeam, which strives to expand company sales, increase investments and tackle the shortage of skilled labour.

The managing director of Finn-Power, Juha Mäkitalo, is also the chairman of TeachTeam. Operations are co-ordinated by a think tank, which in 2018–19 includes Finn-Power, PRP, FerrumSteel, Palax, Caplan, Wapice, SeAMK, Sedu and Into Seinäjoki. Relocation was a more advantageous option for us than updating and expanding our old premises. The new premises are designed for purpose, and production has the possibility to grow flexibly in fluctuating demand across the different product groups. Also, the expansion of the subcon- tractor and partner network is easy in Roves’ growing area." 18 Seinäjoki Pushing the city forward with €1 billion of investments

Many additional links to the food chain

ONE OF THE THRIVING SECTORS in Roves business park is the food chain cluster. There are already large food lo- gistics companies operating in the area, for instance Inex’s and Posti’s large cold storages, and new ones are rising. In the neighbourhood to existing companies, the city has dozens of plots of land on offer to food chain companies.

Foodwest, a food sector development company, will build new 1,700 m² premises in Roves business park. The four-mil- lion-euro investment will be completed in 2019. The city is also investing in Roves with a preparation kitchen, which will be taken into use in summer 2019. The kitchen will prepare up to 12,000 meals a day, which will be delivered to Seinäjoki’s kindergartens and schools. Pushing the city forward with €1 billion of investments Seinäjoki 19
