The site occupies improved agricultural land and any buried archaeology is likely to have been truncated by past ploughing. However, there are some indications of possible Neolithic and / or Bronze Age activity. A small 20th Century quarry, still actively in use, was also recorded. A precautionary watching brief was recommended as result of this work over any topsoil removal for construction in two areas where cairns have previously been recorded (NJ44NW0002 and NJ44NW0015). Visual impacts on surrounding sites are being assessed separately. A watching brief was carried out by AOC in November 2012 on 50 machine dug trial pits at various points along the proposed wind farm tracks and turbine locations. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded from any of the trial pit areas. A watching brief monitoring all ground- breaking works associated with the development was carried out from August 2015 to January 2016. No archaeological features or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified during the watching brief. NJ44NW0053 Braehead Quarry Remains of disused quarry and lime kilns at Breahead. The camp measures some 337m from the north-northeast to south-southwest by 328m transversely and encloses some 10.9 ha. J. K. S. St Joseph conducted excavations on several occasions, recording that the ditch on the south-southeast side was small, measuring only 0.85m in width and 0.7m in depth. He also excavated three other trenches on the south-southeast side with slightly smaller dimensions and five further trenches across the south-southwest side to establish its location several years later. The position of the south side was established by 'digging'. The surface of the ploughed field very stony. NJ45SE0011 Bowmen's Road Bowmen's Road, considered to be part of a drove road.
