Der fokuseres primært på udviklingen i perioden 2012-2017 for såvel bredde- som eliteidrætten. Desuden indeholder rapporten en opdateret oversigt over de grønlandske idrætsfaciliteter samt en samlet analyse af den grønlandske konkurrenceevne i international elitesport. Rapporten er struktureret i tre dele, der hver afrapporterer resultatet af de del-analyser, der i nævnte rækkefølge omfatter: Et økonomioverblik med fokus på udviklingen i oven- nævnte periode (Del 1), en kortlægning af de grønlandske idrætsfaciliteter (Del 2), og en analyse af eliteidrættens støttestruktur, økonomi og resultater (Del 3). Rapporten er udarbejdet på baggrund af interviews med en længere række af nøgleinfor- manter1, data indhentet fra offentligt tilgængelige databaser (f.eks. Grønlands Statistik), egne registreringer (f.eks. af de grønlandske idrætsfaciliteter) samt andet materiale (f.eks. regnskaber fra Elite Sport Greenland, Grønlands Idrætsforbund, specialforbund, forenin- ger, selvstyrets finanslove, sportslige resultatdata mv.). De enkelte delanalyser indeholder en kort beskrivelse af datagrundlaget for deres respektive område. Del 1 viser, at idrætten i Grønland langt overvejende er baseret på offentlige tilskud i form af bevillinger fra det grønlandske selvstyre (17 pct. af de samlede offentlige tilskud til idrætten i Grønland), udlodningsmidler fra Danske Spil A/S (23 pct.) og kommunale til- skud til drifts- og anlægsudgifter (60 pct.). I alt beløber de offentlige tilskud til idrætten i Grønland sig til 443 mio. kr. målt i løbende priser, svarende til 449 mio. kr. i 2017-priser for perioden 2012-2017. Dertil kommer en række mindre tilskud i form af fondsbevillinger pri- mært rettet mod specifikke idræts- og facilitetsprojekter. Endvidere viser del 1, at Grønland, som var vært for både Arctic Winter Games 2016 og de panamerikanske mesterskaber i håndbold i 2018, har haft betydelige – primært offentlige – udgifter til internationale elitesportsarrangementer, ligesom det at sende grønlandske atle- ter til lignende arrangementer i andre lande er forbundet med relativt store omkostninger. Del 2 giver et opdateret facilitetsoverblik over de grønlandske idrætsfaciliteter, der viser, at den kommunale dækning af idrætsfaciliteter er højest i Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, der også har det højeste indbyggertal. Korrigeret for antallet af indbyggere er der færrest ind- byggere pr. idrætsfacilitet i Qeqqata Kommunia, mens der er flest indbyggere pr. facilitet i Avannaata Kommunia. Siden den seneste registrering af idrætsfaciliteter i 2015 er der an- lagt en række kunstgræsbaner, som udgør den primære ændring i facilitetsdækningen. 1 De interviewede informanter er anonymiseret i afrapporteringen. De benævnes: ’informant 1’, ’informant 2’ osv. i rapporten. Der forekommer ikke referencer til alle interviewede informanter, da nogle har været baggrundsinterviews foretaget med henblik på at skabe en generel forståelse for det grønlandske idrætssy- stem. I alt er der gennemført interviews med 17 informanter. Idrættens Analyseinstitut 6 www.idan.dk I tillæg belyser del 2 renoveringsbehovet i de etablerede faciliteter og peger på en række udfordringer for facilitetsområdet i Grønland, der blandt andet relaterer sig til en forholds- vis lav idrætsdeltagelse og høje etableringsomkostninger af idrætsbyggeri. Det bør ifølge rapporten lede til en række principielle overvejelser omkring den fremtidige facilitetsud- vikling i Grønland. Del 3 udgør den første selvstændige analyse af det grønlandske eliteidrætssystem og dets resultater nogensinde. Analysen viser helt overordnet, at den grønlandske konkurrence- evne er lavere end forventet. Forventningen baseres primært på de relativt mange økono- miske ressourcer, der tilføres det grønlandske eliteidrætssystem målt pr. indbygger. Analy- sen peger dog på en række faktorer, der medvirker til at forklare den lave konkurrence- evne. F.eks. er de store afstande, høje transportomkostninger og det lave antal idrætsaktive årsag til, at der inden for de fleste sportsgrene er dårlige muligheder for at afholde løbende konkurrencer, ligesom mulighederne for at rekruttere og udvikle trænere, samt de gene- relle træningsbetingelser for de grønlandske atleter, begrænser udviklingen af grønlandsk eliteidræt. The guidelines also cover travelling with these animals within Greenland. In order to protect the Greenlandic Sled Dog as a breed Act no. 18 of 30 October 1998 establishes a so called sled dog district. The territory is defined as follows: th ● North of Greenland on the West Coast from north of 66 ​ northern degree of latitude, ​ th ● The entire East Coast down to Kap Farvel, east of the 44 ​ western degree of longitude. ​ Within this district, only Greenlandic Sled Dogs may be kept and it is strictly prohibited to bring other dogs into these areas. This concerns both dogs travelling onboard cruise ships with tourists and local dogs travelling within Greenland. In accordance to Article 19, subsection 2 of Act no. 18 of 30th October 1998 by Greenland´s Home Rule regarding sled dogs, it is prohibited to introduce dogs of any race into the sled dog districts. The same Article states that it is prohibited to reintroduce Greenlandic Sled Dogs once they have left the sled dog district. Working dogs and service dogs for disabled people may be permitted admittance to the sled dog district, but only after receiving a permit from the Government of Greenland. Working dogs are solely defined as the dogs used by police or by the authorities in relation to border control.

    Zircon geochronology from the Kangaatsiaq– Qasigiannguit region, the northern part of the 1.9–1.8 Ga Nagssugtoqidian orogen, West Greenland Kristine Thrane and James N. Connelly The Kangaatsiaq–Qasigiannguit region in the northern part of the Palaeoproterozoic Nagssugto- qidian orogen of West Greenland consists of poly-deformed orthogneisses and minor occurrences of interleaved, discontinuous supracrustal belts. Laser ablation ICP-MS 207Pb/206Pb analyses of detrital zircons from four metasedimentary rocks (supplemented by ion probe analysis of one sample) and igneous zircons from six granitoid rocks cutting metasedimentary units indicate that the supracrustal rocks in the Kangaatsiaq–Qasigiannguit (Christianshåb) region are predominantly Archaean in age. Four occurrences of metasedimentary rocks are clearly Archaean, two have equivocal ages, and only one metasedimentary unit, from within the Naternaq (Lersletten) supracrustal belt, is demonstrably Palaeoproterozoic and readily defines a large fold complex of this age at Naternaq. The 2.9–2.8 Ga ages of detrital Archaean grains are compatible with derivation from the local basement orthogneisses within the Nagssugtoqidian orogen. The detrital age patterns are similar to those of metasediments within the central Nagssugtoqidian orogen but distinct from age patterns in metasediments of the Rinkian belt to the north, where there is an additional component of pre-2.9 Ga zircons.     16/08/2017 Northern governments exploring new options for sports removed from 2016 Arctic Winter Games| Government of Yukon news release FOR RELEASE June 7, 2013 Northern governments exploring new options for sports removed from 2016 Arctic Winter Games WHITEHORSE—Following a decision from the Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC), the ministers responsible for sport in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, along with the Lieutenant Governor of Alaska, will work together to ensure that the sports eliminated from the 2016 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) in Greenland will have an alternate multi- sport venue. Representatives of the six permanent partners in the Arctic Winter Games met recently with the AWGIC to discuss the 2016 games. Subsequent to that meeting, the international committee confirmed it will continue with the approved sport program for the Greenland games, which excludes midget hockey, dog mushing, curling, speed skating, figure skating and gymnastics. In response, a committee is being formed, led by the Northwest Territories, to research and provide options for a non-affiliated alternate event for the excluded sports. "Providing a multi-sport competition for young athletes across the circumpolar north is key to the continued growth and development of our sport community,” Yukon Community Services Minister Elaine Taylor said. “Hosting an event such as this will give our youth the opportunity to compete in a multi-sport environment, and will ensure continued momentum in the development of sport across the North, in keeping with the vision of the Arctic Winter Games tradition.” The newly-formed committee will work to identify a jurisdiction to host the excluded sports, including possible locations in NWT, Yukon, Nunavut and Iceland.

    N O R D I C M E D I A T R E N D S 10 Media and Communication Statistics Faroe Islands and Greenland 2008 Compiled by Ragnar Karlsson NORDICOM UNIVERSITY OF GOTHENBURG 2008 NORDICOM’s activities are based on broad and extensive network of contacts and collaboration with members of the research community, media companies, politicians, regulators, teachers, librarians, and so forth, around the world. The activities at Nordicom are characterized by three main working areas. Media and Communication Research Findings in the Nordic Countries Nordicom publishes a Nordic journal, Nordicom Information, and an English language journal, Nordicom Review (refereed), as well as anthologies and other reports in both Nordic and English langu- ages. Different research databases concerning, among other things, scientific literature and ongoing research are updated continuously and are available on the Internet. Nordicom has the character of a hub of Nordic cooperation in media research. Making Nordic research in the field of mass communication and media studies known to colleagues and others outside the region, and weaving and supporting networks of collaboration between the Nordic research communities and colleagues abroad are two prime facets of the Nordicom work.
