Twinned with the Parish of Embalenhle in South Africa My dear friends in Christ, th NEWSLETTER Last Thursday (11 October), the Catholic Church Sunday 14th October 2012 throughout the world began the Year of Faith which Twenty-Eighth Sunday was called for by Pope Benedict XVI. Our Diocese of the Year marked the beginning of this special year with a Sunday 21st October 2012 Mass in Brentwood Cathedral on Thursday evening. Twenty-Ninth Sunday The Holy Father tells us that his overall objective is of the Year that through this Year of Faith we may “rediscover the joy of believing and the enthusiasm for communicating the faith” (Porta Fidei para 1). Serving the Churches of: In particular, he hopes that we will come to a deeper understanding of the truths of our faith and a renewed relationship with Jesus, Our Lord. This St Basil the Great Year of Faith marks the 50th anniversary of the Luncies Road SS14 1SD opening of the Second Vatican Council and the 20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of The Most Holy Trinity the Catholic Church. Brentwood Diocesan Trust Registered Charity No. 234092 School Form Signing - THIS THURSDAY. Applications for Secondary st Schools are now open, with most schools having the deadline of 31 October. Check the paperwork carefully and be sure to apply in good time! We are very blessed to have a fine Catholic secondary school, De La Salle, right in the centre of the parish. Families looking for an all boys school or all girls school also have good choices nearby with St Thomas More in Southend and the Ursuline School in Brentwood. We strongly and warmly encourage Catholic families to use Catholic schools: there is an ethos and set of values that underpin these schools rooted in the Catholic faith, and it is a priceless gift to your child, sustaining all that happens in the parish and in the home. Each school has detailed admissions criteria, and will require a form to be signed to show your child is a Baptised Catholic and attending Mass. Please bring the forms from the school with you and complete the whole form with the exception of the questions which need to be answered by the priest. If they have not provided a supplementary form about your faith then Fr Dominic will provide one for you. You will also need a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate – if you do not have this then the form cannot be signed. If your child was Baptised in Basildon (at any of our three churches) then call Katrina, 01268 281732, and request a new copy. There will be around sixty forms for Fr Dominic to sign. For this reason please do not ask for them to be signed individually after Masses, but instead please come at the following times: th Thursday 18 October, 4.00 – 5.30pm, St Basil’s Presbytery. Thursday 18th October, 7.00 – 9.00pm, Small Hall, Holy Trinity. Parish Finance. Should any parishioner require a copy of the Parish financial statements for the financial year ended 5th April 2012, these are available on request from the parish office. By early 2013 the parish Finance Committee will have prepared a summary analysis with key information which will be presented to parishioners to help everybody have a better understanding of the parish financial position. PAGE 4 OUR LADY & ALL SAINTS Sacred Space – in need of some peace? Moments of quiet in a busy week? Time to think and time to pray? Holy Trinity offers plenty of space, beautiful th lighting, and a calm atmosphere. The next session takes place on Wednesday 17 October from 7.30 – 8.30pm, with the Blessed Sacrament on the Altar and quiet classical music playing. Pop in for a few minutes or stay for an hour; in the stillness give space for God’s heart to speak to your heart. The November Dead List Envelopes are available in each of the churches. The custom is that people put a list of the names of all their departed loved ones inside the envelope (with a donation) and the list is then placed in a special basket in front of the altars and all our loves ones are remembered in the Masses during November. All the donations received here are given to charity. Preparation for First Communion – Reminder. The Parents’ meeting, led by Fr th Dominic, is on Tuesday 16 October from 7.30 – 9.00pm in the main hall at Holy Trinity. The Children’s session is on Saturday 20th October from 9.20 – 11.00am. The Diocesan Deaf Service will be celebrating a Signed Mass in Holy Trinity on Sunday 21st October at 10.30am. Fr Dominic will be the main celebrant and people who are deaf will sign the readings.     BRENTWOOD (28th JULY 2012) INTRODUCTION The end of July 2012 saw a busy 24 hours for me, as I mixed sports with religion, but not at the same time. I had already planned a Saturday visit to Brentwood, but a belated decision took me off to Maldon on the Friday night to the football. At that time I was quite friendly with the parents of current first teamer at Colchester United, Alex Gilbey, who then was a member of their Under 18’s youth team, and on a few occasions, I managed to get lifts to away games. Now I had a thought, that I might get a lift, but to keep the story short, his dad, Scott, when I rang was on a train back from London to North Station, and I was told, if I could get to Nat West Lexden, in about 30 minutes, I could have a lift, it was a breathless me who just about made it, and a lift was secured. Coincidentally Colchester won the match 2-1. Part two of the story, was that Colchester had another match the next day in Brentwood, he said that I could have a lift back, but not there, as he had some building work to do in the morning. Hence i have a story to tell, about my morning there in the town. THE JOURNEY DOWN From what I can recall, I had never been to Brentwood, I had been around it on the A12, I had been through it, when going to girls football match in Brentwood, and further down in Aveley.

The Cathedral’s response has always been to seek and follow the guidance of those in authority, that is, the Government and the Bishops, who have the best available information and scientific advice with which to inform their decision making. I would like to thank everyone involved in making the Cathedral as safe as reasonably possible for those who freely choose to attend Mass or come for private prayer. I would also like to acknowledge all those people who respectfully comply with our protocols and exhibit a real care for others. No one has raised issues of serious concern about the measures that we have put in place, in fact, I have only received praise for them and sincere thanks for the opportunities made possible for those people who wish to come to Mass or to pray.

In 2019, there was no measured exceedances of Air Quality Objectives set down under Local Air Quality Management (LAQM) requirements. A graph can be found in Appendix A that shows monitoring results from 2015 to 2019. This long-term chart shows that measured concentrations of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) are declining. Air Quality in Basildon Air pollution is associated with a number of adverse health impacts. It is recognised as a contributing factor in the onset of heart disease and cancer. Additionally, air pollution particularly affects the most vulnerable in society: children and older people, and those with heart and lung conditions. There is also often a strong correlation with equalities issues, because areas with poor air quality are also often the less affluent areas1,2.

    The Diocese of Brentwood Cathedral House, Ingrave Road, Brentwood, Essex, CM15 8AT A five year vision for Diocese of Brentwood Education Department 2017 - 2022 A key challenge for Catholic Education today is to be true to the mission of the Catholic Church and to respond appropriately in order to preserve and develop our Catholic Schools in the changing educational world in which they exist. Underpinning our educational vision are a number of overarching aims of Catholic Education which need to be promoted by the Diocesan Education Department and by our Catholic schools and Academies. Consequently we are committed: 1. To proclaim and promote Jesus Christ as the foundation and centre of the school community and of its evangelising mission within the Church’s overall pastoral mission. (cf. Evangelii Gaudium 121,134,265; Dominus Iesus 15). 2. To believe that all are created in God’s image and likeness, are children of one God and part of one sacred family as brothers and sisters sharing a common humanity and for whom the Spirit “is mysteriously present in every human heart” (Redemptoris Missio 29). Shaping Future Services from April 2014 Essex Sure Start Children’s Centres Shaping Future Services from April 2014 Public Consultation 17 October 2013 - 5 December 2013 Essex County Council wants your views as it starts a formal public consultation into children’s centre service delivery Foreword Sure Start1 children’s centre services are an important part of delivering early support for children, young people and their families in Essex. Essex County Council is committed to delivering children’s centre services at a time when the financial challenges that we face are unprecedented. Reduced funding from central government, together with the impact of inflation and increasing demands for services means Essex County Council needs to save around £215m by 2016-17. This is on top of the £365m already saved over the previous three years. Simply put, we can’t afford to deliver everything we want to. We are therefore consulting on making savings of £2.5m from the children’s centre budget between 2014 and 2016 and this can only be achieved by working smarter and focussing use of our resources on actual services for children and less on buildings and other overheads. We are pleased to be able to announce proposals we believe can achieve these objectives in the most efficient way possible, making maximum use of buildings and the staff delivering services. We propose to extend our current contracts from April 2014 until March 2016 to ensure that children’s centre services continue across the county for another two years with no overall reduction in the level of services currently being delivered.
