3 4 ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNIT impuls Electric multiple units from IMPULS family are the most cutting- edge rail vehicles manufactured in Poland. These are low-floor, open coach vehicles equipped with a full interior monitoring system, air- conditioning, modern passenger information system and, optionally, with ticket dispensers and ticket punchers.

Their interior was adjusted to the needs of passengers with reduced mobility: it fea- tures ramps, folded steps, lifts, broad aisles and a designated space for wheelchairs and bicycles. In the vehicle, motor bogies are used as well as Jacobs bogies (mounted between each two cars). The bogies have a modern gear system and a two-stage spring suspension systems that effectively muffles vibrations, thus enhancing passen- gers’ comfort while travelling.

Available train configurations

The IMPULS Electric Multiple Units family can be manufactured in numerous configu- rations. Depending on customers’ needs, we provide consisting of two sections (37 WE), three sections (36WE), four sec- tions (31 WE), five sections (45WE) and six sections (35 WE).

Apart from the different trainset length, var- ious passenger compartment interior layout options are available, which makes it pos- sible for the EMUs to be used not only as commuter and suburban trains but also on long-distance routes.

The vehicle open-floor design makes it easy to move around and comfortable seats, re- sistant to damage, ensure relaxing travel even on longer journeys. The automatic air- conditioning and heating system ensures comfort in all weather conditions. Travelling on IMPULS EMUs also means safety and security – IMPULS vehicles are equipped with full interior monitoring systems.

A low floor facilitates boarding and de- boarding even for people with impaired mo- bility. The coach interior provides places for wheelchairs. Toilets are also accessible for people with reduced mobility.

Passengers come first

IMPULS EMUs are the first Polish trains which comply with the latest TSI require- ments i.e., a set of strict requirements and standards in force in the European Union. Thanks to compliance with the requirements set forth in TSI NOI,TSI PRM, TSI SRT and TSI LOC&PAS, IMPULS trains guarantee comfort and safety both to passengers and train drivers.

Fully TSI-Compliant

Cutting-edge solutions are not limited only to the passenger compartment. NEWAG’s designers and design engineers also pro- vided a modern and ergonomic workplace for train drivers. The driver and his assistant have a two-operator control panel at their disposal. A comfortable driver’s cab is air- conditioned and furnished with ergonomic seats and adjustable footrests. IMPULS EMU meets the crashworthiness require- ments in compliance with PN- 15227:2008 standard ( crash scenario).

37 38 ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNIT impuls II IMPULS II Electric Multiple Unit is distinguished by its functionality and implementation of cutting-edge design solutions.

It draws from the first series of IMPULS family EMUs and it has been built based on the experi- ence NEWAG S.A. gained during their production in collaboration with our customers. IMPULS II de- rives from the IMPULS 36WEa which complies with the requirements imposed by the Regulations of the European Commission issued in 2014, namely: TSI LOC&PAS, TSI SRT, TSI NOI, TSI PRM and TSI CCS. It also holds WE certificates issued by Instytut Kolejnictwa [Railway Research Institute].

Safety was of utmost importance for design engi- neers during the process of designing this rail ve- hicle. The driver’s cab layout fully complies with the principles of ergonomics. A specially-designed control panel fitted around the driver’s seat enables him to notice objects located close to the train front.

The IMPULS II vehicle structure was designed and verified for compliance with PN-EN 12663 standard. The crashworthiness of the driver’s cab structure meets the requirements of PN EN 15227 standard.

39 40 ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNIT IMPULS II

Benefits

The IMPULS II structure, in particular, the frame structure, makes it possible to configure the floor height at 620 and 760 mm. Moreover, it is possi- ble to configure the EMU with a variable number of doors, depending on train operators’ requirements.

IMPULS II EMUs can be manufactured with differ- ent lengths and in various power variants.

• 2- section – length 43 m power 1 600 kW

• 3- section – length 59,3 m power 1 600 kW

• 4- section – length 75,6 m power 2 000 kW – version I power 1 600 kW – version II

• 5- section – length 91,9 m power 2 000 kW

• 6- section – length 114,86 m power 3 200 kW

• 8- section – length 147,46 m power 4 000 kW

IMPULS II vehicles can also be fitted with a diesel power module which can be connected with the ve- hicle as a coupled module or it can constitute a part of the trainset.

49 50 ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNIT 39we The 39we Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) is distinguished by its outstanding design, functionality as well as its use of advanced design solutions

The vehicle draws the eye with its futuris- tic appearance inspired by modern urban architecture and in line with the latest in- dustry trends. The design of the 39WE unit also reflects the vehicle’s functionality. All 16 passenger doors (8 on each side) facilitate boarding and de-boarding the unit. The spa- cious vestibules relate harmoniously to the front part of the vehicle, thus facilitating movement for people with restricted mobil- ity, as well as for families with small chil- dren or cyclists.

51 52 ELECTRIC MULTIPLE UNIT 39WE

The 39we Electric Multiple Unit meets the requirements of the highest safety standards.

This six-unit articulated vehicle is 60 m long and consists of 2 open-space sections, each with 3 parts. It can accommodate a total of 505 passengers, including 164 on seats. The unit comes equipped with a fully inte- grated passenger information system con- sisting of exterior LED panels and interior LCD monitors. All vehicles are air-condi- tioned within the passenger compartments and feature windows enabling the free flow of air as well as a passenger counting sys- tem. The vehicles can reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

The designers paid particular attention to safety while designing the vehicle. The driv- er’s cab has been designed with the primary aim of ensuring the workplace ergonomics. The custom-made extended control panel around the driver’s seat allows the driver to see objects located in close proximity to the vehicle front.

The very first 39WE units were manufac- tured for the Warsaw Commuter Railway (WKD).
