Post 16 Provisions

 Post 16 special schools. The nearest specialist school for most families would be Springhead school in Scarborough which offers a Post 16 curriculum. Springhead Post 16 provision, from September 2017, will be based at Lady Edith’s Drive in Scarborough.

 Welburn Hall school in Kirbymoorside offer Post 16 provision on both a daily and boarding basis (although boarding is limited by space). More information on the provision they offer can be found on www.welburn-hall.n-yorks.sch.uk or you can contact the school on 01751 431218.

, offer a range of courses at entry level based around animal care, for horticulture and land based skills. The website address is www.askham-brayn.ac.uk.

, Beverley offers a range of courses starting at the entry level based around animal care, horticultures and land based skills. The website address is www.bishopburton.ac.uk.

 Future Works based at The Street offer courses for those not yet ready for employment or further education. The course is called Improve My Prospects and runs for 2 days a week. The contact number is 01723 449616.

 Gateshead College offer a programme called ‘Project Choice’ which is based at The Street in Scarborough, to support young people with learning difficulties and/or disabilities into work. They are able to offer qualifications in English and Maths, employability and work placements. For more information, contact Richard Oldale on 01723 480032.

Additionally, Health Education , (HEE) offer Supported Internships usually for one year where a young person is supported into an employment placement. Full details can be obtained from Karen Porter 07581 204247.

 YH Training based in Scarborough offer a foundation learning course to students 16+. Students will continue to study Maths and English and work towards an employability qualification as well as access some work experience. You can find out more about the course they offer on www.yh- group.co.uk.

 Scarborough Tec formally College offers a range of courses from entry level upwards. These include catering, hair and beauty and construction to name a few. Courses at Scarborough Tec tend to be 3 or 4 days a week. The website, which has a full range of courses available, is www.scarboroughtec.ac.uk.

Other specialist choices such as Personalised Learning Pathway and specialist colleges such as Henshaws are usually only available post 19 if your needs cannot be met at a local Further Education college.

This can be a very difficult time and transition into the next placement is always best planned so it is important to look at all the options available and let the Assessment and Reviewing Officer know of your choice as this will need to go to panel to reach a decision before placement is agreed.
